What are you reading?

The Belgariad is a fine set of books, I'm a huge fan of the Eddings. I think I enjoyed the second series even more than the first, and the two volumes that depicts the early times of Polgara and the grandfather even more. I've lost my original set of books so I need to re-acquire these at some point, I've not re-read them in decades, now.

I wrapped up Beautiful Mystery today and wow, no Three Pines yet lots of advances within the police department itself, notably the fatal shoot-out that happened a few books ago. Gamache is likely done with his second after this, I'm guessing the person he's been grooming for succession will be stepping up soon. The mystery here is a good one, involving music and styles dating back a thousand years, and had me scrambling to learn some things outside of the book. This is such a complete series, the author really does a great job on not only backround for the tales themselves but also always brings in excellent character development.

Now back to book three of the Stormlight Archives!

The conspiration of Catilina by Sallust.
I learned a lot from this text; the most important lesson for me was, however, that Catilina = Trump.

I completed book three of Stormlight Archives, Oathbringer, earlier today and man, what a fun ride! Most books that depict battles wrap them up in a few pages, yet the final confrontation in this volume lasts for what feels like a couple hundred page!! And now I'm starting book four, Rhythm of War!

Also I'm working on the Waiting, book six of the Renee Ballard series.

I finished the Waiting this morning and it was excellent, nice to see how Ballard runs the Open-Unsolved group and the cases they work on. In this volume you get to see how they work a case about twenty years in the past, another close to seventy years old, and then a collision as past rams firmly into the present.

Haven't read many novels all that much but did read a bunch of web-novels.

Most of you probably wont like them as their mostly power fantasy.

Finally finished off the Silo trilogy. All in all, a good read, although I do think it wrapped up a bit too succinctly. The second book was also somewhat confusing at first, with how it introduced brand new characters while simultaneously jumping around in time.

I'm now ready to sit through the TV series and likely be disappointed.

On top of reading Rhythm of War I've also started on a ten book series from Amazon, focusing on the Giza Pyramids. It stars two children and so far seems rather light and whimsical.

And Rhythm of War is completed, it's the first time I've re-read this particular book in the series, and it's soooo good! Lots of story advancement here and much revealed about the past, it only makes me more eager for book five.

Now I'm on book two of the Giza Pyramid tales. The writing is fairly juvenile yet I'm a bit interested in where the tale goes next.

Still amazed at your reading speed, @Carnifex.

I have the fifth Stormlight Archive book on my to read list, but am a bit hesitant to start it. I loved the first three, but book four started to feel a bit... much, perhaps.

Currently busy reading Count Zero, second in the Sprawl trilogy (first was Neuromancer).

That ending to book four....man, I'd forgotten just how Rhythm of War wrapped up! I'm soooo keen for book five, lol. And I do agree, book four could have used better editing in some sections, for sure. Any information that reveals more about Odium is what I'm looking for.

I finished book five a few days ago. A good read, but not as satisfying as I had hoped. Too fragmented in its storytelling due to many things happening at once and the story needing to jump between characters a lot.

I'd probably give it a strong 3 or weak 4 out of 5.

Wind and Truth is done, polished that one off yesterday. I nailed some of where I thought the protagonists would wind up and totally missed on like three of them. Book five wasn't what I was expecting for an end to this chapter, and yet maybe that enhanced just how good it was. I'll truly be looking forward to book six....or book one of the next cycle, depending on how you look at the series. One complaint: No resolution/update on Rock, his family, or the rest of the Horneaters. That irks me and I hope to see them revisited in future volumes.

I finished the ten volume Giza set, a bit juvenile yet it gave a smattering of Egyptian history and mythology, before moving onto the main arc which was four space-faring races that had and were continuing to visit Earth. Not a series I'd ever reread.

And poor timing yet I got Dawnshard, which is a novella of the Stormlight series, set between books three and four. I'm about halfway through and enjoying each and every page!!

And Dawnshard is done, that was a quicky compared to the other Sanderson novels. It was nice to see Cord getting some action!

Next I'll be starting the third book in the Court series, Wings and Ruin.

Wings and Ruin was decent, I wrapped that up just this morning. A bit too much on the romance yet that's par for this series, I keep reading on because the world of fae has always fascinated me.

Next up for me will be the Diary of Anne Boleyn. Since I'm enjoying the telly version of Wolf Hall, I think this might enhance the overall experience.
