What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

Honestly, I'm slightly more excited about this sequel than one by Ridley. Ridley had two recent chances and squandered them. But I am excited only if a few things will change.
First I hope the director uses this opportunity to truly build a sequel, and lets the first one be more of a test and proof of concept. And build a real bigger plot than what we had in Romulus.
And I think keeping the two mains in the sequel is probably a good idea. They could build something good if they made the effort to distance themselves from Romulus.

Well hopefully it's better than Romulus. Either way, it's a long way off if it happens. I'd rather have one more from Scott, but that's apparently not going to happen due to his age.

The article also mentions Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes which reminds me that I still need to watch that one.

I haven't seen any of the modern films. For some reason the premise never interested me very much.
And it seems Andy Serkis also wasn't motivation enough, even though he was fresh off his Golum character, which I very much enjoyed.
I like the original film only for the twist at the end. Otherwise I wouldn't exactly remember it. But that was a smart twist.

I've enjoyed them all. Even the standalone 2001 reboot with Mark Wahlberg was pretty good.

Me too. After Alien: Covenant was released he was talking about a couple more movies to link the prequels to the original Alien. Without those, the integration of the prequel lore into the series is less than satisfying.

Good to see some different opinions from notable people.
I haven't been paying attention to Folie à Deux. Is the general opinion not good?

Very much it seems. Almost across the board. I'm gonna watch it tomorrow I guess, since it apparently goes on digital today or tomorrow.
I'm curious and will hopefully go in with an open mind and proper expectations.

Seems we might still be getting another Ridley Alien film.
This is a nice surprise. Funny how we were just talking about that recently.

He's apparently been pretty busy. At 86 years-old, I hope he's able to see all these projects to completion.

I will be interested to hear how it goes. I am very tired of the constant derivative work hollywood puts out so sometimes even an average movie that has an original concept I can find more enjoyable than the typical Superhero/rom-com/sequel that gets pumped out. Yes, I do know this one is a sequel though!!! I actually greatly enjoyed JP's "You were never really here" even though it was flawed on many levels just because it was so different. Although it did get a pretty good reception as well from the audience.

We saw Smile 2 last weekend. It was pretty great. They went hard ensuring it was better than the first and didn't suffer from sequel syndrome. And unlike the first (or seemed so to me), the ending was the highlight and not a letdown at all.
