What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

Kick Ass is a fine film, one I need to watch again!

Last night I watched the second Sin City flick. Not as good for me as the first, yet still worth checking out. That battle between Manute and Marvin is a true slobber-knocker!

I watched Saw 1 with a friend who had never seen it. It's aged fairly well as far as horror flicks go, although some parts are a little hokey. The twist still holds up. We're going to watch Saw 2 probably tonight.

I rewatched the Conclave last night with a friend that had not seen it, and I think I got a little more out of the film this time. Worth watching, especially with a conclave coming again soon.

Revenge of the Sith is my second favorite Star Wars movie after Empire Strikes Back. Ian McDiarmid is absolute brilliance as Palpatine!

But I only got to see it once in the big theater when it first came out. I needed to hunker down hard for my PhD candidacy exams after that first time, and it was out of the theaters by the time I finished the exams.

Finally got to see it again in a Silvercity. Pure awesomeness!!!

But at the moment I'm also shedding a few tears over Lucas signing the franchise over to Disney, and letting Kathleen Kennedy get her paws on it.

I watched a movie on Prime that recently came out called "Ash". Truely abysmal with no redeeming factors whatsoever. It had lots of flashbacks about characters that barely feature in the movie that you never really care about. For a horror movie it lacked both tension and any scares. Plenty of cardboard acting and it felt like the lead actress was posing for a magazine cover in quite a few scenes. The viewer is supposed to believe the cast is a group of scientists but the first time they encounter an alien device for the first time they decide to drop a big rock in it. I shit you not.

The score of IMDB is below 5 and I would say it is very generous. Avoid at all costs.

I gave Ash a chance earlier before you posted. Yes, some things just wrecked it for me.

It was ALL her fault! And she's the protagonist we're supposed to get behind! Wha ... ?

I have no medical training whatsoever. But even I know that there are reasons why a patient has to be kept absolutely still and motionless during surgery, especially cranial surgery. A medirobot inserting its instruments into the head, playing tug of war to pull it out, and she doesn't die on the table? What the ... ?

All movies to one degree or another ask the audience to suspend disbelief. But sometimes there's a fine line between that and making itself ridiculously unwatchable. Ash didn't just cross that line, it running start pole vaulted over it.

Yeah, I didn't realize that was Bale until I read it.

Not sure about Cage as John Madden, but I've never been a big fan to begin with.
Cage is actually a really good actor but he does so much worthless junk you don't see it often.

He's probably a lot better than I give him credit for, but his style just never really appealed with me. Off the top of my head, the only movies I really liked with him were Con Air and Color Out of Space.
