Yesterday I updated windows 11 to the latest version, optional updates included.

Today:
  1. Loading games from Mod Organizer - games immediately crashed. Starting them directly from Steam worked.
  2. Opening folders failed, and when using other methods to open file explorer, it was not possible to open subdirectories
  3. Downloading files from the net failed.
Ugh! Desperation!

Seems like this has been a common problem for several users. Several different approaches were suggested on the net, including uninstalling the optional update. Some approaches worked for some users, other ones for other users. But not for me.

I found the culprit: Window Blinds from Stardock. I have had problems with other applications refusing to start, excluding them from skinning fixed it (and later the problem apparently got patched away). This time I disabled it and now everything is on the green -well, actually not since my greenish window blinds skins now can't be loaded. But my computer works according to specifications.

No doubt the windows update caused compatibility issues with the Blinds. I expect it to be fixed eventually, but whether it's Microsoft or Stardock - I suppose fixing the problem is up to Stardock.

Keep in my mind to disable the recall feature:

to look:
DISM /Online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName:Recall

to disable it:
DISM /Online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:Recall

(you need an admin console)
