Backstory

Before the Saga began, the Elder Gods reigned in the heavens. One of the Elder gods, Goth-Azul -- known as the God of Death -- rebelled against the established. The Gods created a prison orb, called Gaia, and imprisoned Goth-Azul deep within its core. But before being imprisoned, Goth-Azul gave the secret of the power of the Elders to a lesser god, Xethos Nom. Together with four other lesser Gods, Xethos used the secret to destroy the Elder Gods, and they claimed the heavens for themselves.

The new gods fought bitterly over who was to rule in the heavens, each creating their own creatures to battle over Gaia. Some fought to defend the orb, as to prevent Goth-Azul's escape. The others, however, aimed for its destruction, hoping that by releasing Goth-Azul, they can rule the heavens together.

This is the world in which you live. As a human, you are the common-race, known for your neutrality in the great war, and also known for seeking one thing: Glory.

Saga Heroes - New Game Poll

by Couchpotato, 22:19

Ayrik of Wasatch Games announces he is doing a new poll for Saga Heroes to decide the future of his failed kickstarter game. If you were one of the backers , or just interested in the game please take the survey.

Here are the details.

You Decide the Future of the Game! Please Participate.

As you may know, Saga Heroes was not funded on Kickstarter! I know, this is a few months late, but I've been trying to decide what to do with the game since it then. After months of deliberating and questioning everything this game is, I finally came to my senses. Why not let the future players of the game decide what they want?

So, I created a tiny survey, that's really no more than a poll on what you, the fans, want me to do with Saga Heroes. Your choices will affect the final output of the game, so please participate!

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Bxf…afY3Y/viewform

Please, please, please participate in this poll!

It will take most of you no longer than 2 minutes to finish the survey, and will provide me with all the information I need to bring you the game you want. Without participation, this game could disappear due to lack of interest! Please don't let that happen!

I will continue to work on this game in my own spare time until funding is acquired, or the game is complete. Thank you all for your support and encouragement!

Saga Heroes - Funding Unsuccessful

by Couchpotato, 05:59

Saga Heroes failed to get funded on kickstarter the game only made $5,314 of the $10,000 goa. The developers Wasatch Games promise a new update with more information soon, but did respond in the comment section about the games future.

Wasatch Games

We are certainly looking toward the future of another Kickstarter with a different approach. And I will continue to work on this game until it releases, but it's size and release date cannot be guaranteed without funding! I will make a postmortem update tomorrow. Thanks for your support everyone!

Saga Heroes - Update #7, 10 Days To Go

by Myrthos, 11:55

With just 10 days to go in the Kickstarter campaign for Saga Heroes it is still a bit over 6K short of reaching its funding goal of $10K.

So, everyone, it's coming down to the wire. We are so close to hitting our goal! The percentage of funds may not seem high, but it's only $6,000 and there are plenty of projects that do that in a single day. I know we can make it, but we need all your help to get there. Please share the link with your friends, even if they aren't interested, have them share it with their other friends and I'm sure we can get a good trend going.

Want more physical rewards?

I'll be adding some new pledge tiers that will hopefully interest a few of you to get some really cool stuff while you wait for the game. I've been doing some research on printing cloth maps, T-Shirts, and even some 3D models of some game characters. If physical rewards are your thing, make sure you keep up with the next few updates!

You may have noticed the lack of updates lately. I had to have surgery last week so I haven't been able to work on anything, but I'm feeling great now, so get ready to get all sorts of updates in the coming days!

Saga Heroes - Update# 6, Puzzles & Riddles

by Couchpotato, 04:44

Wasatch Games has a new update for Saga Heroes with information abiut the games puzzles, riddles, and othe features. The project has managed to get $2,742 of the $10,000 goal, and has 19 days left to get funded.

Puzzles, Riddles, and Features Beyond the Demo

First of all, I want to say thank you for getting us to the 25% mark! We've still got a ways to go, but I am very optimistic. According to Kickstarter's statistics, 80% of projects that reach the 20% mark are successful. And it's all possible thanks to you!

It looks like this just a typical ARPG.

As you know, I've been saying that Saga Heroes is not an just a typical action RPG, but as you also know, the trailer and demo do not support my claim. This is because of budget constraints and priorities in creating a minimum-viable-product. We classify the demo as a pre-alpha build, which means that not all the features of the game are built yet. In fact, it means most aren't! We felt that we could properly develop a combat system ready for Kickstarter, but not intriguing puzzles, a compelling story, or other adventure game features. I promise, that doesn't mean that they're not coming!

So what sets it apart?

When describing the Saga Heroes, I try to focus on the adventuring aspect of the game. To me, adventuring means exploring a world and discovering new things about it at each turn. We are attempting to give players an experience that is not focused around combat; we're trying to tell a story with more than just dialogue. The music, the environment, the lighting. They all tell a part of the story.

We are also working on some fun puzzles. Our plan is to create interesting puzzles that you will solve by using the environment around you, items you've found on your adventures, and the amazing blob of goo in your head called your brain. We are still in the prototyping phase of most of the puzzles, and are trying to find a balance between fun, cleverness, and difficulty. We would love to have amazing puzzles like the adventure games of old, but without the whole, try-it-once-and-if-you-do-it-wrong-you-die aspect.

RPGWatch - Saga Heroes Short Q&A

by Couchpotato, 05:54

Saga Heroes is another game on Kickstater this month looking to get funded. The developer is called Wasatch Games, and they are asking for $10,000. I had the chance to talk to the Stuidio Head Eric Wiggin, and ask a few questions.

RPGWatch: What sets your game apart from others in the genre, and why should people back your game?

Wasatch Games: I'm not even sure which genre to categorize Saga Heroes in exactly. It's got some elements from the Diablo style, traditional ARPG, but is actually closer to the old action/adventure games on the SNES. In fact, I would call it a successor to those games. When attempting to recreate the nostalgia of that era, most games tend to be 2D pixel games and try to stick to the mold. A lot of them also seem, mostly on mobile, to lack the care and attention-to-detail that those old games had, mostly due to budget constraints, or they spend their time on adding more features, which I feel bloat the game, only giving you the illusion of depth. We are trying to keep the game simple at its core, adding modern features like a skill-tree, achievements, and user-friendly UI.

Also, I am not a fan of quest-grinding or handholding, and there will be none of that in Saga Heroes. Instead of accepting quests without, reading them, our game will require you to talk to NPCs and most of them will state a concern and you'll get a journal entry update. This is a much more immersive experience, and requires you to read a little more, but not too much. We don't want to focus on dialogue for the people who don't want to read a lot. What we really want to focus on is gameplay, immersion, and story-telling.

Saga Heroes - Update# 5, New Camera Angle

by Couchpotato, 05:14

Wasatch Games has a new update for their ARPG Saga Heroes that talks about a new camera angle, map changes,  and the games now has 100 backers.

New Camera Angle! Radical map changes! 100 Backers!

Thanks to everyone for helping us reach this milestone of 100 backers!

Since our Kickstarter launch, we have been working non-stop to try to answer all your great feedback and requests. One of the biggest concerns we've had is that the camera angle is too steep! Well, we are happy to announce that we've lowered the camera angle, added some fog, and now the game looks better than ever!

Another thing we've been doing is modifying the maps. We had to do this to change the camera angle anyway, so we thought we'd improve them while we were at it. We got rid of the stacks of barley in town and put the windmill on a hill (this prepares us for a future quest). We opened up the first area outside of town and added another behemie den with a nice reward. And the second area was completely revamped!

You'll be able to play all this and more once we update the demo to 0.2.2. We're testing it out right now and will let you know when it's ready so check back soon.

This is just the first of many updates for our demo. If you would like to see some more changes to the game, feel free to message us on Kickstarter or voice it publicly in the comments.

Saga Heroes - Kickstarter Updates# 3 & 4

by Couchpotato, 06:08

Wasatch Games has two new updates for their ARPG Saga Heroes. The first update is a recap of the kickstarters second day. Here is a small part of the update.

Another day passes and we're well on our way to meeting our goal. A special thanks goes to all our new backers! Welcome to our saga.

(There's a special easter egg in the screenshot above! Can you spot it?)

We got a lot of really great coverage on the wonderful world-wide-web today, so hopefully some fresh eyes are just around the corner. Please share these links around to your friends and maybe it'll help convince them that Saga Heroes is just to awesome to pass up!

The second update from today might interest everyone more as they share a download link for a demo of the game. Here is the link and and some information.

Our PC demo is now ready for all backers and potential-backers! If you had friends that needed to play the game before pledging, or if you're reading this and want to try it out before pledging, you can try it out here: http://www.sagaheroes.com/demo

The system requirements might be a little steep because we haven't had proper time dedicated to optimizing for the PC, but we plan on updating with some settings soon!

Also, the game has not been tested at all on a Mac yet, so play at your own risk and let me know if you run into any issues with it. The game controller I'm sure is not supported at all, or maybe the buttons will just be off.

Just remember, this is a Pre-Alpha demo! Many improvements will be coming later, most of which we will cover in future updates on this Kickstarter page.

I hope you all enjoy the demo! I'm gonna take a break now...

Saga Heroes - Kickstarter Updates# 1 & 2

by Couchpotato, 06:29

Wasatch Games has two new updates for their ARPG Saga Heroes, but first a liitle information about funding. The game has made $1,696 of $10,000 goal in one day.

The first update is a recap of the last 24 Hrs.

You are all awesome!

Wow, thank you everyone for your generous support, we’ve reached $1,201 already and have 50 amazing backers! We are so incredibly grateful for people like you that have faith in this game as much as we do.

You have all done an overwhelmingly great job sharing the game around the internet, and I'm really stunned at all the wonderful feedback you've given us so far. We’ve still got 29 days to go, and we need all your help to build up as much support as possible. So, please, keep sharing the Kickstarter to your friends by any means necessary! Please direct your friends to www.sagaheroes.com, where we’ve created a landing page to make it super easy for everyone share and enjoy Saga Heroes. Thank you again for your support.

One more thing.

In later updates we will be featuring elements of the game that weren't covered by the video and page, or we just want to go into more detail on. Please comment on this update or on the page with questions you have that we can answer or parts of the game you want to know more about. Tell us, what do you want to know about Saga Heroes and our team? Maybe some details about the story, or a preview of the world map, or a roadmap of the features we plan to add? Either way, we will share it all with you, but make some noise if you want to know about it and we'll do those first!

And the second update give us a little bit of backstory about the games world.

Backstory

The story of Saga Heroes starts with our original game, SAGA.

Before the Saga began, the Elder Gods reigned in the heavens. One of the Elder gods, Goth-Azul, rebelled against the established order and the Gods created a prison orb, called Gaia, and imprisoned Goth-Azul deep within its core. But before being imprisoned, Goth-Azul gave the secret of the power of the Elders to a lesser god, Xethos Nom. Together with four other lesser Gods, Xethos used the secret to destroy the Elders, and they claimed the heavens for themselves.

The new gods fought bitterly over who was to rule in the heavens. After much destruction, an agreement was reached. Each god would create a race. These beings would battle away from the heavens, on the surface of Gaia, and whichever race was victorious, their god would reign in the heavens.

Saga Heroes - Kickstarter Now Live

by Couchpotato, 09:05

Wasatch Games has launched their Kickstarter for Saga Heroes asking for $10,000. As promised here is the link, and some more information about the project.

Saga Heroes is an action/adventure RPG that is played from a top-down perspective, very much inspired by classic action/adventure games on the SNES, but we've added our own unique blend of adventuring, role playing, and action. As you explore, you will complete many quests along the main storyline, and will also have the opportunity to help NPCs by doing their side quests.

You start in the small village of Aria, with the clothes on your back and nothing more. Gain the trust of the townsfolk by completing their quests and uncover the secrets of the Shadow Cabal. Explore the world of Gaia and discover the rich lore behind it all

I also have some screenshots, and the trailer from yesterday.
