Atomfall - Game Pass Success
Wccftech reports that launching Atomfall on Game Pass was a success:
Game Pass Launch of Atomfall Was a Huge Success, Says Rebellion CEO
Atomfall surpassed Rebellion's expectations by far, reaching over two million players in just one month, and its presence on Game Pass was definitely helpful toward that goal. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley heaped praise on Microsoft and their subscription service:
It's been a huge success. Microsoft has been a fantastic partner to work with, they've really leaned in to helping us. They brought their skills and their scale to bear on our small project, and it's done really, really well for them, so they got a good deal, we got a good deal out of it as well.

Atomfall - Review
Thumb Culture reviewed Atomfall:
Atomfall – PC Review
Atomfall has been out for almost two weeks, and I’ve been playing the game quite a bit. You might have checked out our exclusive preview article previously, but now it’s time to do a proper review. So sit back relax as we venture into the North of England and find out just what might have been.
Lead The Way
As with the preview article, I don’t really want to give away too much of the game. I honestly feel that this game is best going in blind, but that’s no good for a video game review. So what I’m going to do is try and keep it as vague as possible. Just talk about some of the mechanics involved in the game. If you want to know anything about the story, then check out the preview article.Gameplay
Atomfall is a vast game, there are a number of areas that you can explore. Discovery is key in the game, whether that’s a new location or even just a new character who might give you a quest. These quests, though, are called Leads. With your main task being to try and find out whats happened and how to get out of the quarantined area. You need to follow these leads through to the end. Some give you a glimpse into the lives of characters, others lead you onto other quests.[...]
Final Thoughts
So, what do I think of Atomfall in general? It’s bloody brilliant. I’ve enjoyed so much of my time playing through the game and I’ll probably go back and explore some more. Its environments and characters make the world breathe with life. Add a sprinkling of mystery with what happened at the Windscale Nuclear Plant.

Atomfall - Review
Couchpotato spotted an Atomfall review on Gaming Respawn:
Atomfall Review
Straight off the bat, I will say Atomfall is one of those games that some will be die-hard fans of, and some will hate it with a passion.
Billed as Fallout but set in England, Atomfall tries to do something different. It succeeds in many ways but really falls short in others.
At its heart, Rebellion has crafted a truly fascinating world, and the story’s structure lends itself to wanting to know more about what happened to its residents and where you stand in all of this.
Before I delve deep into each section, I want to get across that this is a game every Xbox Game Pass owner should give a go and see if it scratches that Fallout-RPG-style itch for you.
[...]
Conclusion
Overall, Atomfall is a breath of fresh air in the modern gaming space. What the game lacks in polish and riveting gameplay, it makes up for with an interesting story that really is what you make of it.This approach to storytelling also makes this game insanely replayable as it has six possible endings.
If you do have Xbox and Game Pass, as I said near the beginning of this review, you should download Atomfall immediately and see if you like it. It will be one of the more unique experiences you have this year. If you are on other platforms and on the fence, wait for it to hit around £30 and give it a go.

Atomfall - Tech Review
Eurogamer checked out Atomfall:
Atomfall is a potential cult classic, but its tech remains distractingly last-gen
Rebellion's latest tested on PS5, PS5 Pro, Series X/S and PC.
Best known for its Sniper Elite and Zombie Army series, British developer Rebellion this time tries its hand at an open world adventure, Atomfall. Based on the same in-house engine as its other projects and running on both current and last-gen machines (plus PC), it's nonetheless a steep departure for the studio - and therefore an interesting challenge for its Asura engine that we last saw in 2022's Sniper Elite 5.
[...]
One notable tech change is that Atomfall tends to divide its environment into chunks, with loading screens in between, though its areas are still suitably vast. Viewed from afar there is a beauty to its landscapes, but it's clear from our testing that there are also rough points in its technical delivery - that could be attributed to the decision to target both current and last-gen consoles. We've tested the game on PS5 Pro, PS5, Series X and Series S for this face-off, and even on current-gen machines there are certainly better and worse choices of platform.

Wccftech reviewed Atomfall:
Atomfall Review – Shadow of Cumbria
Atomfall is a game that came out of nowhere for me. I was browsing Steam a few weeks ago, having taken a little break after the gaming marathon of Civilization VII and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and there it was: a post-apocalyptic game set in Britain. Considering I'm from Britain and have been to where this is based—that being Windermere—and I love Metro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fallout, and other similar games, it was a no-brainer.
With people running around in masks, battering innocents to death with cricket bats, or using a shiv to watch the life bleed out of them as they mutter utter gibberish about returning to the soil before telling you to "fack off", Britain in 2025 is an interesting place. Then we get Atomfall, set in a fictional post-apocalyptic Britain following the Windscale disaster, not the current post-apocalyptic Britain hoping to recover from the incompetent Tory government only to have a new Tory Labour government, mercilessly taking from the poor and disabled while catering to their wealthy overlords.
[...]
Atomfall is a thoroughly enjoyable game which looks and plays well, and offers a compelling narrative with surrounding exploration to keep you entertained. It's well-polished, offers good replay value, encourages you to do things a little different, and isn't bad on the eyes either, with a good design that allows it to both look good and support last-gen consoles. The score likely doesn't reflect the game as well as it should, as I would heartily recommend this to anybody, with the added advantage that it's coming to game pass.
Score: 7.5/10

Unless you’ve been living under a large rock you will have heard of Atomfall, the latest game coming soon from Rebellion. The game is set five years after the Windscale nuclear disaster in Northern England. Inspired by the real-life event. You have to explore the quarantine zone, barter with people as well as survive to find out just what is going on.
Follow The Leads
We were incredibly fortunate to be invited to a special press screening and playtest recently. This is what we experienced.Playtest
So, a number of other members of the gaming press were introduced to the game through a short presentation by one of the developers. Once that was all done, we were invited to control a PC running Atomfall remotely.Starting my game a bit further into the game than perhaps I should have. I quickly got restarted and I started the game just inside of a tunnel. This is where the fun began!
Upon leaving this tunnel, I had my first glimpse of melee combat. It was brutal: a swift swing of my axe, and the enemy in front of me was covered in claret. A few more of their friends joined the fun; thankfully, they were straightforward to take down.
This then gave me a glimpse of the next aspect of Atomfall, looting! Checking through the bodies, we could pick up what they had in their pockets. With a number of items going towards crafting different things. To start, all I could craft was a simple bandage which, unlucky for me, I needed to use immediately. The inventory system was straightforward enough. Four larger slots for bigger weapons, a rifle, shotgun, large axe. And then a number of smaller slots for the smaller items. Food, resources, handguns and knives all sat here.

Fallout fans can't wait for Atomfall, signaling excitement for an RPG not developed by Bethesda
Given that a new Fallout game has been canceled "effective immediately," there should be some optimism for the Fallout community
Xbox players are fired up for the release of Atomfall, an anticipated competitor to the hit-RPG franchise Fallout, which won't have a new title out for some time.
This next game is being developed by Rebellion, which is well-known for the Sniper Elite franchise. The fact that this post-apocalyptic scenario is based on a real-life occurrence sets it apart from others. “A survival-action game inspired by real-life events, Atomfall is set five years after the Windscale nuclear disaster in Northern England. Explore the fictional quarantine zone, scavenge, craft, barter, fight and talk your way through a British countryside setting filled with bizarre characters, mysticism, cults, and rogue government agencies,” its description reads.

Atomfall is a proper British detective mystery with Fallout: New Vegas vibes
Rebellion’s latest has you investigating an alt-history nuclear apocalypse
Like limited-time public demos, media hands-on preview builds often feature handy text boxes that flash on the screen to inform the player that only a few minutes remain. During my half-hour with Atomfall at Gamescom, one appeared while I was chatting with the flat-capped landlord of a painstakingly British pub. Alf Buckshaw of the Grendel’s Head had done well to frame the world beyond his grimy windows, waxing about the post-government military quarantines and Droog-like bandit gangs that have cropped up in the wake of Rebellion’s fictionalized exaggeration of a real 20th-century nuclear disaster. But time was of the essence, so I brandished a cricket bat and started lamping the poor bloke in the head. To my surprise, he was up for a scrap, even in his old age.
Playing a choice-driven RPG with a built-in time limit can force you to do some strange and ethically murky things. And I don’t typically do so with an in-person audience, so it was hard not to worry about the judgment being passed over my shoulder by Rebellion’s head of design, Ben Fisher. After I was gunned down by a tipsy soldier for my crimes against the elderly, I stood up for a quick chat about this inimitable Cumbrian STALKER-like.

IGN checked out Atomfall:
Atomfall Isn’t British Fallout, It’s Something Much More Interesting
Not a post-apocalypse RPG, but a detective/survival game hybrid.
When Atomfall was announced as part of the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this summer, its first-person, post-apocalypse, alt-history design made it appear that developer Rebellion was crafting a British version of Fallout. And, for a while, that’s (sort of) what it was building. But the team at Rebellion soon realised that a story driven by traditional RPG quests just wasn’t what they wanted to make. They hoped for something much, much more interesting. The solution was to replace quests with ‘leads’, transforming Atomfall into what’s probably best described as a ‘detective survival game’. Here’s how that all works.
My hands-on demo begins with the UK’s iconic red telephone box. One stands alone amid the verdant, picturesque English countryside (Atomfall’s beautiful Cumbria is a far cry from the irradiated wastes of Fallout). Its phone is ringing. I pick up the receiver and hear a mysterious voice. “Oberon must die,” it tells me, before hanging up. A UI prompt tells me a lead has been added to my journal. It’s not a quest, but a question.
