Atomic Heart - Enchantment Under the Sea Review
Twisted Voxel reviewed the DLC Atomic Heart - Enchantment Under the Sea:
Atomic Heart – Enchantment Under the Sea Review – Short, Sweet, and Supercharged
Atomic Heart – Enchantment Under The Sea continues the journey of this ambitious first-person shooter, which drew inspiration from BioShock while carving out its own unique identity. In many ways, this expansion brings out the best in the game’s world and delivers a satisfying conclusion to its story. It’s no coincidence that the DLC’s name feels like a nod to its BioShock aspirations, and it lives up to that legacy in more ways than one.
This is easily one of the strongest pieces of DLC released for Atomic Heart so far. While the base game started strong, it stumbled with a story that faltered near the end and gameplay that felt repetitive over time. Still, it had a lot going for it - stunning visuals, a fascinating world, and deep lore to explore. The post-launch season pass has steadily built on these strengths, with each episode adding fresh story content and expanding the game’s universe.
[...]
Atomic Heart - Enchantment Under The Sea is an electrifying continuation of the game's saga, delivering dynamic combat and an engaging narrative. This DLC enhances the base game's visual appeal and introduces inventive new weapons while shifting the focus from repetitive puzzles to more action-oriented gameplay.

Atomic Heart: Annihilation Instinct DLC Review - The Final Verdict
Annihilation Instinct, the first paid DLC for Mundfish's Atomic Heart, is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. It continues the story of P-3, as it were, by venturing to the Mendeleev Complex and introducing a new "enemy" in NORA. Players must traverse the limited new areas to fix in-game malfunctions.
You may think there's more to the core premise, but that's more or less it, wrapped in a fetch quest with few new enemy types, two weapons and a boss. It's not terrible, but on top of highlighting some of the flaws with the game's structure - from the writing to the combat - Annihilation Instinct doesn't provide all that much bang for your buck.

Gameluster checked out Atomic Heart:
Review: Atomic Heart – Crispy Critters, Comrade!
Let it be known that if I have to hear the words ‘crispy’ and ‘critters’ in the same sentence again I may just begin my own communist revolution wherein I outlaw these words all together.
Of course I’m being facetious (possibly), but this grating phrase is uttered by the protagonist of Atomic Heart, Major Sergey Nechayev, far more often than one would hope. It’s a saying that’s repeated so often, and sounds so comically – for the lack of a better word – American, something right out of the mouth of a stereotypical hillbilly, that it almost feels like Russian game developer Mundfish were trying to make it a phrase that would be iconized by American audiences. ‘Trying’ being the operative word here. It’s confusing at best, given how Mundfish have been accused by the Ukrainian government for ‘romanticising communist ideology and the Soviet Union,’ though at the same time chose to tell a story (badly) whose crux actively juxtaposes with its pro-communist visuals. Apologies, I’m getting ahead of myself.
[...]
Atomic Heart’s narrative lacks the gall to tackle any of its ideas thoroughly, and is made worse by having to endure it through the eyes of a tremendously unlikeable protagonist. Its moment-to-moment gameplay is passable at best, and a chore the rest. Though visually the game is beautiful, it’s not enough to distract from an otherwise hollow experience.4/10: CLOUDY - SHAZ DOESN’T RECOMMEND

Atomic Heart review
Atomic Heart is an ambitious shooter that starts to feel samey beneath its retro-futuristic veneer
Atomic Heart has seemed like a pipe dream ever since its 2018 reveal. In a world of homogenous big-budget free-to-play multiplayer titles, Atomic Heart was a breath of fresh air: a single-player adventure set in an eclectic, alternate-history Soviet Union.
[...]
Atomic Hearts review: Verdict
Atomic Heart stands out from its peers. The world design is fantastic and packed with plenty of lore. Other aspects of the game are decidedly average, though. It's a 30-40 hour semi-open-world title that would have made more sense as a 20-25 hour linear game. The narrative is all over the place in tone, and I'm still unsure how I was supposed to feel about certain parts of it. The alternate-history Soviet Union setting is underutilized, too. Aside from the aesthetic and surface-level criticism, you could have set it anywhere.Despite the game's flaws, I was entertained. When you catch Atomic Heart at its best, it's excellent, and it's easy to overlook many of its flaws. It's a great first effort from Mundfish, and I'm curious to see what the developer's sophomore title will bring.

Henriquejr spottet some reviews for Atomic Heart:
Atomic Heart review | GodisaGeek.com
Atomic Heart embraces lunacy, overblown sexuality, and violence at every turn, and feels simultaneously polished and yet painfully unrefined.
Atomic Heart Review | Gamerant
Atomic Heart has some solid bones in the story and general design, but it is worsened at every step by an incredible amount of bloat.
Atomic Heart review: a mad science experiment that yields mixed results | Rock Paper Shotgun
Atomic Heart is an alt-history Soviet shooter that veers between superb gunplay and tedious busywork, with surprisingly little to say about its setting.
Atomic Heart - Released
The first person action RPG Atomic Heart has been released:
Atomic Heart
Atomic Heart is an action RPG game. The story is about all the things that could have happened in the reality of the USSR but didn’t. Technical revolution has already occurred, robots, the Internet, holograms have already been invented, but all these innovations are immersed in the atmosphere of communism, imperialism and confrontation with the West. The protagonist of the game, a Soviet Special Duty KGB officer, ends up at one of the Complexes of the Facility 3826 during a massive robot control system malfunction. The game world consists of huge open-world regions full of lush Soviet nature and less spacious territories of the Facility complexes with its secret underground and above-ground labs, bunkers and robotic logistics systems. Most of the enemies are a variety of machines produced at the Facility. Each robot was originally made to serve the needs of the Soviet industry or to help Soviet citizens in a daily life. The robots are implemented with a combat program that should be activated in case of a war.

IGN checked out Atomic Heart:
Atomic Heart Review
Hack in the USSR.
There’s a lot to be said about unapologetically single-player games like Atomic Heart: its entire focus is on creating an intricate world for us to explore and discover for ourselves. An eye-catching blend of super-powered shooting and first-person puzzling, this is a lengthy, tough, and terrific-looking shooter that has us bathing in the blood and gears of elaborately designed enemies both biological and robotic and dispatching them with an impressive set of combat options. Granted, it’s not as clever as it thinks it is when dealing with melee combat or its typical fetch quests, and the story doesn’t quite stick its landing, but the journey from point A to point B is a sight to behold.
[...]
Verdict
Atomic Heart is a deeply ambitious, highly imaginative, and consistently impressive atompunk-inspired attempt at picking up where the likes of BioShock left off – something it’s done with a lot of success. It certainly makes missteps, chiefly with an irritating leading man and a self-indulgent habit of using the same tired tropes it tries to make fun of, but this stern, superpowered, and stringently solo shooter has worked its way under my skin despite these flaws. Atomic Heart didn’t always blow me away, but it definitely has the ticker to punch well above its weight.Score: 8/10

Atomic Heart - Interview @ Wccf Tech
Wccf Tech posted their 3rd interview with developer Mundfish.
Atomic Heart Q&A #3 – RTXGI Confirmed, Multiplayer Not Ruled Out for the Future; Won’t Switch to UE5
Ever since its unveiling to the world in 2018, Atomic Heart immediately captivated gamers with its stunning ray traced visuals and unique 'Soviet BioShock' atmosphere. Set in a retro-future alternate version of the 1950s USSR, Atomic Heart features KGB agent Sergey ‘P-3’ Nechaev as its protagonist. P-3 is sent to investigate Facility N°3826, a top-secret complex where the USSR's brightest scientists invented a substance said to allow humans to ascend to the next level of evolution. Of course, not everything goes according to plans, and P-3 has to face off against deadly machines and rampaging zombie-like humans.
Given the significant interest in this first-person open world shooter game, we reached out to interview Russian developer Mundfish twice, in 2019 and in 2020. Each time, we uncovered new intriguing details about Atomic Heart. Today, with the launch window finally confirmed for Q4 2022, we're publishing our third and likely last pre-release interview with the developers.
[...]
In the accompanying press release, you've stated that this additional funding will let you 'move towards the release much faster'. Were you able to hire additional developers following the Tencent investment?
Yes, the support we've received allowed us to grow the team with new expertise that strengthened the overall development. We allowed ourselves to increase our art team resources significantly, as well as the cutscenes department that we've reinforced with high-class animators. We've been hiring globally, and it could not have been possible without this deal.
I know you were initially planning to release the game years ago. Was that a miscalculation on your part, or did the game's scope get a lot bigger?
We've been thinking about this indeed. We've discussed it at some time. But as the team grew, along with our ambitions, we realized that the game should be more complex. It will be much better for the overall franchise; the game will be more interesting as a result.
Can you talk a bit about the game's skill system and how those skills will be acquired?
The combat system in the game is based on two hands that work independently. You can take a weapon in the right hand – a firearm or a melee weapon. The left hand uses polymeric glove abilities like telekinesis, frost beam, shield, etc. Combining these two mechanics allows for tactical versatility that suits your playstyle – you can create a build that focuses on fast attacks or defense, for example. There's also an energy-based modification system. We will cover all that in more detail a bit later; there's a lot of stuff to tell about combat.
You mentioned there would be vehicles in Atomic Heart. Can you share more details on how they'll work?
There is a car in the game that lets you traverse the world faster, but that's it. There are far more interesting things in the game!

Atomic Heart - Release Period and Trailer
PC Invasion reported a story trailer for Atomic Heart, which announces an Autumn release (mostly - September to December window).
Atomic Heart gets a holiday release window alongside story trailer
We all love a good nightmarish, alternate history story, don’t we? We don’t? Fine, be like that. Atomic Heart, an upcoming open-world, first-person action RPG from the developers of scrapped VR game Soviet Lunapark has just given us a better look at its story, as well as a release window. The game is set to release in the fourth quarter of this year, although we aren’t sure which month. The trailer literally ends by saying it’ll release in “#######ber,” and seeing as none of the four mounts with that suffix have a prefix of seven letters, it’s easy to see that the devs are just being coy.
Atomic Heart is set to be a game predominantly about shooting, albeit with some melee action. Ammo is said to be quite scarce, and there’ll be stealth as well, so it doesn’t sound like we’ll be going around with guns blazing this time. The game takes place in an alternate reality 1950s Soviet Union. It puts us in the shoes of a KGB agent known only as P-3 as he explores an abandoned manufacturing facility. Abandoned, save for an army of killer robots that is. It’s one of those retro-future-type dealies where dated versions of future technology are everywhere. [...]

Atomic Heart - Sequel Already Confirmed
TheGamer reported confirmation from developer Mundfish that there would be a sequel to Atomic Heart.
Atomic Heart Dev Says The Game Will Get A Sequel
Atomic Heart seemingly has a bright future.
Russian studio Mundfish seems to be confident about its debut project Atomic Heart, as the team has already begun to talk about a potential sequel.
The Moscow-based studio has revealed plans for a follow-up on its official Discord channel, DTF reported. According to the developer, Mundfish has assembled a strong team with the idea to continue working on the Atomic Heart brand “for years to come,” and has no intention to release just the one game.
The studio executives said that “Atomic Heart 2 is officially confirmed and destined to be,” although the creators understand such a statement may sound too sudden when spoken before the release of the first entry. However, Atomic Heart isn’t just a test for the team, as they spent “an outrageous amount of time” creating this unique universe in great detail.
To make a believable alternate-history version of the Soviet Union, the creators have brought in several credited directors and writers. The initial goal was to make a world capable of dozens of stories to be told there. After all the effort, Mundfish believes in Atomic Heart’s success and is convinced that Atomic Heart 2 will see the light of day at some point.
While the studio didn’t reveal any specific details about the sequel just yet, the devs said the first game will offer some thought-provoking basis for what might come next. Atomic Heart has an additional layer of mystery with the game’s story that most players won’t pay attention to but it will fully unfold in the sequel. In addition, fans can already find some hints in the previously released footage, the studio said.
What is even more intriguing here is that Atomic Heart will offer two different endings with an important moral choice. It’ll be interesting to see this choice being explored in the follow-up.
Prior to E3, Mundfish said Atomic Heart is nearing the finish line, with most of the team currently busy polishing the product and starting work on its console ports. The title is being developed for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.
