Blood Knights - 50% Off on Steam

by Couchpotato, 21:57

Blood Knights is the next daily deal on Steam for 50% off. Now I agree with Joxer, and I can't recommend this game. Despite what I think some of you might be interested.

Combine your vampiric skills with the sharp edge of your blade in this medieval vampire hack‘n‘slay. Battle through hordes of monsters to restore your honor after you, a legendary and feared vampire hunter, have been turned into a vampire yourself!

Deck13 (Venetica, Jack Keane) brings you an action-packed RPG, where you can play solo or co-op: Switch between the close-combat warrior and the crossbow wielding vampiress at any time while in singleplayer; or play co-op with a friend, joining your forces to defeat the onslaught of the evil hordes. Strike down your enemies using devastating close-combat and ranged attacks or whirl your enemies around and suck their blood using your vampiric abilities.

Blood Knights - Review @ SpawnFirst

by Couchpotato, 21:36

SpawnFirst has a late review for Blood Knights, and come to the conclusion that you should buy the game when it's cheap. If you want the score it's 5.5/10.

Blood Knights is a competent hack'n'slash, in the vein of the Diablo series. Though it's nowhere close to being a perfect example of the genre, with its audio issues, spiking difficulty levels, so-so graphics, and below-par voice acting, it's still a lot of fun when the gameplay elements click. Don't buy it at full-price, but if you see this baby on sale, you just might want to give it a shot.

Blood Knights - Review @ Geeked Out Nation

by Couchpotato, 04:22

Geeked Out Nation reviewed Blood Knights, and gave the game a score of 58/100.

Blood Knights is a fun game to play, but you can never really shake the nagging feeling that it should be so much more, and so much better. It should want you to be invested in the characters and the world they adventure in, but all you end up thinking is how much you’d rather be playing Diablo, or Diablo 2, or heck even Diablo 3. So, I’ll make this as simple as possible: Blood Knights is bad, but it’s the kind of bad that you will enjoy playing and wishing was so much more. Blood Knights has enough going on under the hood that it really could be something great, unfortunately there’s just no gas in that tank to do anything. At $14.99 it’s also priced much too high to recommend for only five hours of mediocre gameplay.

Blood Knights - Review @ StrategyInformer

by Couchpotato, 03:58

StrategyInformer reviews Blood Knights, and gives it a low score of 3/10.

Thankfully, the game clocks in at around four hours long, meaning it ends before the mediocrity becomes too draining. However, it's likely the short length that contributes to the shallow nature - it tries to fit all the staples of a genre that usually demands massive length into such a constrained time that it doesn't have room to do anything interesting or expansive. Plot points are rushed through, the ending arrives suddenly and unannounced, the two main characters are barely developed, let alone supporting ones, and loot/levelling systems are kept as simple as possible as you'd have no time to learn anything more complicated. Unfortunately for Blood Knights, taking established systems and watering them down just leaves you with a diluted mix that tastes nothing like what it's trying to imitate.

Blood Knights - Review Roundup

by Couchpotato, 03:38

Here are two reviews for the recently released Blood Knights.

Softpedia - 5.5/10

Blood Knights is a mediocre hack and slash title with lackluster graphics, repetitive gameplay, and a bland story. While it might certainly cure an itch for an RPG brawler, there are other games much more suited to the task.

NJoystic - 3/10

While it’s okay to like a bad game, it’s not an excuse to call a bad game good. Blood Knights is worth playing in the same way as Paul Blart: Mall Cop is worth watching; both are a waste of time even if it’s entirely possible to revel in the moment.

by Couchpotato, 00:52

Kalypso Media sent out a press release announcing that under a new Kobalt Games label they'll be publishing  Deck 13's ARPG Blood Knights. The game was stuck in limbo for over a year due to Dtp Entertainment going bankrupt.

Bracknell, UK – 26th September 2013 – The Kalypso Media Group has further strengthened its portfolio of digital entertainment with the creation of the new Kobalt Games label. Released under the tag line: ‘Digital. First. Quality. The distribution rights include all planned platforms: Windows PC, XBLA and PSN with a release scheduled for Q4 2013.

Blood Knights - Delayed Again

by Couchpotato, 01:33

So is anyone interested in Blood Knights still? Well if you are it seems the release is no were is sight. That's right it was delayed for the fourth or was it fifth time now.

Here is the forum response.

Sorry that information about the release date have not been very reliable. The game is far from cancelled but its publishing situation has changed, meaning that different people are taking over the distribution and release. So there will be a new release date announced soon, hopefully the final one, and we sincerely apologize for not having it on the virtual shelves already!

It was supposed to be in June now Amazon has it listed for Sept. 1st 2013.

Blood Knights - Delayed till May

by Gorath, 11:36

According to the Blood Knights product page the release date has been postponed again, this time to May 17th. A post in developer Deck 13's forum explains what's going on:

The delays are caused by dtp's ongoing insolvency process. Deck 13 had to step in as co-publisher and take over certain duties they weren't exactly prepared for. Placing the game on all platforms was quite a challenge under these circumstances, but this problem has been solved. It's still unclear though when they'll get release clearance by the platform holders.

Deck 13's action RPG with co-op multi-player is 99.9% finished.

Thanks, Couchpotato and GBase.ch.

Blood Knights - Official Release Date, New Trailer

by Dhruin, 23:05

dtp sends us this press release announcing pricing and a release date of February 20 (consoles) and February 22nd (PC), though I'm a little perplexed why the PC version is more expensive:

Hamburg, 21. December  2012 – In the latest trailer to Blood Knights, Deck13 and dtp entertainment are revealing some new gameplay scenes that showcase the abilities of the heroes Jeremy and Alysa as well as the vampiric coop hack and slash action Blood Knights provides.

Also dtp entertainment and Deck 13 today announced a new release date for Blood Knights. Due to some supernatural interference the release date had to be postponed. Finally, if all scantily clad vampires, nasty werewolves and frenetic crusaders can be kept at bay, Blood Knights is going to be released for a worthwhile 14,99 € (14,99 $) on 20th February on Consoles, respectively 22th February for PC for 19,99 €.

Blood Knights - Preview @ OXBM

by Myrthos, 23:20

The previews for Blood Knights are not exactly available in large quantities, or any quantity for that matter, but one showed up at Official Xbox Magazine, albeit a bit short, so let's not quote too much.

Our brief hands-on time gave us a good feel for both heroes, who you can switch between at will in a single-player game. Jeremy’s sword-slashing melee strikes and deadly whirlwind attack pulverize enemies up-close, while Alysa’s twin crossbows and grenades can decimate from a distance. Both characters have a special vampiric ability that lets them levitate a nearby opponent and yank the blood right out of their body — simultaneously killing them and boosting your health.

Blood Knights - Alysa Trailer

by Myrthos, 23:27

DTP sent a press release for Blood Knights in which they present the vampiress Alysa.

Blood Knights is bringing back ''Miss Sexy''

Hamburg, 14th September 2012 - In the latest trailer to Blood Knights, Deck13 and dtp entertainment will be presenting the sexy vampiress, Alysa, in her full lethal allure! To quell any fears about her ability to survive the hordes of enemies she will confront in this hack'n'slash, Deck13 is now releasing more information on the research that went into designing the character of Alysa.

Contrary to certain rumours, the price for the download title of only 15$ (15 Euro)  is not the reason why we had to cut back on Alysa's clothing?

The panel of experts on the protection of lady vampires at Deck13 were now ready to issue a statement: "We did of course study the specimen very closely" said Timm Schwank, Head of Art at Deck13 Interactive, "and we came to the inevitable conclusion that... err... agility... is by far the most important thing for a ranged fighter like Alysa. Anyway, the prospects are bleaker for her if she, like Jeremy, falls into the hands of the numerous adversaries. Instead, she will move smoothly and gracefully, unencumbered by unnecessary clothing." All the male members of the panel were in unanimous agreement.

Barrels of fun these guys. To further show Alysa can survive fights with little to no armor, here is a video.

Blood Knights - Preview @ GameInformer

by Myrthos, 12:47

GameInformer brings us a preview of Blood Knights the vampire slashing game.

During Blood Knights’ eight chapters, your two characters traverse dungeons and solve environmental puzzles along the way. In our demo, platforming puzzles requiring cooperation were pervasive. The good news for those playing alone is that the dungeons adjust accordingly to eliminate the co-op puzzles, even if somebody drops out.  Dungeons also have plenty of loot to uncover, and no matter who opens the chest, the equipment itself goes directly into the inventory of the character it was designed for. Also, equipping different gear and weapons alters the look of your character. If you pick up a shiny sword, expect the shine to glisten off your character’s blade.

Each of Blood Knights’ eight chapters ends with a unique boss fight. Boss battles are not about blindly attacking. For instance, until we knocked out the first boss’ healing devices, we didn’t stand a chance. We’re told the adventure should take about six to seven hours to complete, including its fully animated cutscenes and voiced dialogue. Choices you make along the way shape the tone of the ending.

Blood Knights - Preview @ 1Up

by Myrthos, 12:43

In their preview of Deck 13's Blood Knights the people from 1Up had amongst others this to say:

Based on what Deck 13 showed me, Blood Knights features significantly more RPG elements than Guardian of Light -- in fact, the developers named PS2 classic Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance as one of their other major influences. Jeremy and Alysa each have their own skill trees, with 15 abilities apiece, and the two can level up one of three attributes (strength, health, and luck) after finding five "blood coins." And for all of you Diablo fans, Blood Knights places a focus on loot, but adds a few shortcuts to eliminate the tedium of sifting through endless inventory menus; you can automatically sell unwanted gear directly from the item screen, and the game gives you a clear indication as to whether or not equipping an item would be beneficial. The systems don't seem very deep, but anything more demanding might slow the pace of its Gauntlet-style game play.
