Book Of Demons Review

The pages of the Book Of Demons come alive in the paper world of the only game that changes and molds itself to better fit into your gaming habits. Experience the innovative Flexiscope technology as you comfortably slash demons and zombies left and right in your free time like you never have before.

Introduction
Book of Demons is a Hack-and-slash game with a paper world aesthetic in which you must cut down or just blow to smithereens your way through dungeons, catacombs and eventually Hell itself to defeat the primordial evils that are killing the people of your old village. Book of Demons is a game designed to be accessible to the most casual of players while keeping the attention of veterans. Everything, from the tutorials that explain every mechanic to the game reminding you of key information to help you make the right decisions at every turn, Book of Demons is the perfect game for those who have always wanted to try out games like Diablo series but doubted their skills.

[...]

Conclusion
Book of Demons is a game created for YOU, the player. It is incredibly well thought out to be able to be played by both casual and veteran players, by those who no longer have the time to play long video games but won’t settle for mobile gaming, for the people who are just getting into gaming or who don’t have the stomach for complicated RPGs. The Flexiscope technology is something definitely see with a bright future and that I personally want to see more of, since it’s adaptability is something sorely needed in the generation of games with 30-minute-long matches.

Not content with this, Book Of Demons can be played again and again thanks to the differences between classes (as a tip, Rogues can shoot their arrows freely and from afar, making the game easier since you don’t need to be in as much danger!) and its infinite play option, where players compete to see just how far into hell the can go without dying in a game that gets harder as you keep on playing; and harder still should you choose to play in Hard, Nightmare or Massacre difficulties, where the game will ban and impose cards in your deck, as well as take away more of your gold when you die.

Score 7/10

by Myrthos, 15:02

The Book of Demons is leaving Early Access to be released on the 13th of December.

Book of Demons Hacks and Slashes its Way Out of Early Access on Dec 13

Warsaw, Poland - November 7, 2018 - Book of Demons, Thing Trunk's unique deck-building, papercraft Hack and Slash announces its exit from Early Access this December 13th. Enjoying a hugely successful development cycle, the Book of Demons launch brings with it many improvements based on community feedback, new cards, and even a grand finale special surprise for those of you who can defeat the ever-dangerous Archdemon.

To herald this exciting event, Thing Trunk has created a new video with 21 Facts about Book of Demons that everyone should know as game launch nears!

"Early access has been very successful for Book of Demons. It's allowed players to give us constant feedback on the game and allowed us to balance and add features according to their feedback. We're almost sad that early access is ending, but it means that it is almost time to launch the full game and that is what we're most excited about now." - Filip Starzynski, Thing Trunk co-founder.

Thing Trunk is proudly a Polish game developer and Book of Demons is taking part in the Polish Sale on Steam running November 6 through November 9. This is the largest sale for Book of Demons to date with 50% off the retail price. It is also the last sale before Book of Demons leaves Early Access, so act fast before it bumps its regular price to $24.99.

Book of Demons - Preview @ TechRaptor

by Hiddenx, 18:47

TechRaptor has previewed the upcoming deck-building RPG Book of Demons:

Book of Demons Preview – The Not-Quite Diablo Clone

From the very start, you can see where Book of Demons draws its main inspiration from, and really that’s the entire point. Presented by developers Thing Trunk as “the first installment of…a series of original mid-core titles, inspired by the early golden days of PC gaming”; it is clear from its basic mechanics and look that Book of Demons is meant to evoke that classic Diablo feel (albeit with much more humor and cutesy paper cutouts).

[...]

The card and deck-building system is one of the unique aspects of Book of Demons. Cards are both your skills and your equipment, with only the cards in your card slots (located between your Health and Mana) being active. Loot in the game comes in the form of these cards, and any new cards require the Sage to first identify them before you are able to use them. At first you will only have three open card slots, but you can pay the Sage for additional slots.

You do not actually have any traditional stats like Strength or Endurance to manage. Leveling up in Book of Demons is instead simplified down to choosing whether to add to your Health or Mana pools. I found that adding to the Mana pool was clearly the better choice as both your equipment and spell/skill cards all rely on it. When you use equipment cards need, some Mana is reserved while they are active and will appear as green Mana in the orb. You will only have the blue Mana portion to cast any spell/skill cards, thus having a large Mana pool is a must.

Book of Demons - The Mage

by Hiddenx, 08:35

The mage character is now available for the Early Access version of the action RPG Book of Demons:

Major Update: The Mage has arrived!

Book of Demons just got the biggest update so far. After a short testing phase on a different branch on Steam, we are happy to announce that the long-awaited Mage character is now available to everyone and playable. You can, at last, fight monsters in the paper dungeon using real magic ;-)

Mage is a powerful mystic proficient in all kinds of magic. Wearing only a robe he leaves direct face-to-face combat to his summoned minion, himself bringing devastation from a safe distance.

Mage’s attacks work a little different from Warrior’s. His projectiles are guided and will avoid other monsters to reach their target, but they can still hit walls. That’s why, for a Mage, fighting in tight spaces can be problematic and requires more tactical approach.
But for those (and any other) occasions he has some awesome cards up his sleeve. Mage class comes with 16 new unique class specific cards. Master each of the 11 new spells, 4 artifacts, and 1 item find synergies between them and use them according to situation – and no monster or boss will stand a chance!

Book of Demons - Early Access Date Announced

by Silver, 13:52

Hack n' Slash game Book of Demons has a early acess release date. It will arrive on Steam Early Access on the 28th of July.

After nearly 3 years of development Book of Demons finally has a Steam Early Access release date! It will launch on the 28th of July and we're incredibly hyped about it, because it will probably be the most important day in the history of our studio yet.

...

Why Early Access?

In the recent weeks, we have showcased Book of Demons a lot - we visited Digital Dragons and participated in the Indie Showcase competition (where we won an award!), we organized playtest sessions in our office, and finally, we presented the game as the Pixel Awards finalist at Pixel Heaven. During these events we received tons of positive feedback, we heard many suggestions on how to improve the game, and we gained knowledge on what aspects of the game we need to focus on. However, our main conclusion was that the game is already polished enough to share it with the public and that we definitely need to test it on a broader audience. A larger audience will hopefully help us adjust something that's super important to us and all the aRPG genre fans - the game balance.

[...]

What is game balance, anyway?

Games in general, especially RPGs, are about making choices and deciding what's the most viable strategy at the time being. When a game is unbalanced some of the strategies can be too powerful, thus allowing players to tackle all gameplay challenges in exactly the same way, over and over. This obviously makes some actions and game features ineffective or even useless, and that's definitely something every game developer wants to avoid. Imagine a fighting game where mashing the "B" button and constantly kicking the opponent will almost always grant you victory. Not much of a fighting game, huh?

Ok, but why do you need to test it on a larger audience?

The above example is obviously a bit blunt and something like this would definitely have been caught by internal testers, but there are many things that are hard or even impossible to notice during in-house tests. Especially when you're making a game like Book of Demons - a hack and slash of a size of Diablo 1, with semi-randomized bosses, procedurally generated dungeons, tons of enemies and dozens of cards with completely different gameplay mechanics. It's not that we're lazy or unwilling to see bugs or our game's imperfections. It's just that we have spent the last few years developing it and we're subconsciously choosing strategies that we planned and designed ourselves. It's really difficult to assume the role of a tester, when you're making a game, and it's always a better idea to let others be the testers. That's why we decided to launch the game in Early Access.

What features will be available during Early Access and how long will it last?

The day one features of the Early Access version will include all the core mechanics, the whole single-player campaign, and the Freeplay mode, but will lack some of the content like additional character classes, skill cards or enemy types. We plan to add these features gradually during the Early Access period and release the final version of Book of Demons in Fall 2016.

Book of Demons - Announced

by Hiddenx, 22:37

Independent games studio Thing Trunk today announced Book of Demons, a dark fantasy action Role-Playing Game for PC. The game will be available on Steam in the second half of 2016.

What makes Book of Demons stand out from the rest of fantasy hack & slash games are its many twists in the basic gameplay mechanics, paper cut-out graphics, unprecedented accessibility, and a dark theme intertwined with a fair dose of humor any fan of classic games should enjoy. The character system is built around a card system that supersedes and unifies items, skills, and spells. Current hack & slash games employ countless statistics that change the mechanics by a percentile in a continuous fashion. Book of Demons features multiple discrete player and monster mechanics that can be combined in a virtually infinite number of interesting ways to create near endless replayability.
