Code Vein - Frozen Empress DLC Launch Trailer

by Silver, 19:35

Gamingbolt reports that Code Vein has a new DLC called Frozen Empress. The DLC is mostly negative at the moment on Steam.

The DLC will add a new Depth, the area you explore adjacent to the main story, that is covered in frost and ice. It will add tons of new weapons and costumes to dress up your characters, as well as a new boss in the Frozen Empress. As you can probably guess from the name, she has ice-based powers and promises to use them to be a formidable foe. Check out the launch trailer below.

Code Vein - Review @ Keengamer

by Hiddenx, 14:43

Keengamer has reviewed Code Vein:

Code Vein Review – Beautiful On The Inside

Delve into the post-apocalyptic world of Code Vein in this review for a J-RPG that isn’t afraid to try new things. Code Vein is a treat for fans of anime storytelling, “Souls-like” gameplay and deep customisation. Amongst all the ambition, though, Bandai Namco occasionally trips over its own self-made obstacles.

[...]

Summary
Code Vein looks and plays like a game from the last generation. You need to ask yourself if you perceive that as a criticism. Does such a comparison indicate the negative to you? Code Vein has plenty of last gen quirks, ranging from the needlessly silent protagonist, to its rigidly placed NPCs and lacklustre resource economy. That said, players are going to sign up for the Code Vein experience for the challenges its RPG tree presents. They’ll sign up to experience a sincere attempt at taking a genre and bending it in completely new ways. That’s what brings Code Vein up to the cutting edge, despite its various stumbling points.

Code Vein - Interview @GameSpew

by Silver, 11:26

Gamespew interviewed the developers of Code Vein about how they are furthering the Dark Souls experience.

While a lot of people are making Dark Souls comparisons, there’s also a distinct anime style and post-apocalyptic setting. Did that come from the influence of the God Eater series?

Iizuka: Yes, that is definitely correct. Actually the team from God Eater 1 and 2 is the team developing Code Vein. Therefore we tried to use the strength of the team that was already there, which is definitely a post-apocalyptic world, and very detailed character-building.

Above that, the team wants to take a new challenge and to go into a different area, which is this time an action RPG, and to use the strengths of the team that were already there, and then to put it into developing a game, which provides an exploration experience in action. That is definitely Code Vein.

Code Vein - Interview @Gamingbolt

by Silver, 10:45

Gamingbolt interviewed the developers of Code Vein.

How much of an emphasis does Code Vein put on story and storytelling?

There’s a huge emphasis for this game. The development team have worked on a lot of titles which has a story-driven narrative. All the characters have their own story that you’ll be able to discover. So that’s a major part of that connection that the developers feel that the players are going to make, as you make your own characters in the world. And all these other characters you’ll be able to find out more of and fall in love with.

Can you talk about the nature of Code Vein’s world? Is it more of a large, traditional open world, or can we expect it to feature layered and interconnected level design similar to Metroidvania titles?

It’s interconnected dungeons.

Can you speak about the Gifts system, and how it works with the game’s combat?

The Gifts are all tied to Blood Codes. So you can think of Blood Codes like your character class. With each of those Blood Codes there are certain Gifts that you’ll be able to unlock. Once you’ve fully mastered those gifts you can max out your proficiency, then it becomes where you could actually move Blood Codes. Unlike a lot of other games where you pick your class and you need to stick with it throughout the entire game, [in Code Vein] you can change on the fly. As you unlock Blood Codes you can switch to it immediately.

Code Vein - Preview

by Hiddenx, 20:13

Techadvisor checked out Code Vein:

Code Vein Preview

Code Vein is the upcoming RPG from Bandai Namco that attempts to fill the hole left by the Dark Souls series. We got to take an early look and here is what we think.

Code Vein brings Dark Souls combat and mechanics to a Japanese-style RPG. With a more accessible story and familiar themes, an extremely expansive character creator and a wide array of weapons and builds to try, Code Vein is shaping up to be a very impressive title.

Every now and then a game comes along that creates a new genre. Demon Souls, developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco, did this back in 2009 as it brought forward a style of RPG that focused on being technically and mechanically challenging.

This was followed by the Dark Souls series which drew much more attention and brought this hardcore-focused genre further towards the mainstream - although this was mostly because of its notorious difficulty rather than its mass appeal. Dark Souls 3 saw the conclusion of the series in 2016 which left a gap in Namco Bandai’s stable of games for that challanging .

Code Vein is attempting to fill this gap keeping the challenging gameplay than people love about the Souls series, whuke fusing it with systems and mechanics found in Japanes style RPGs.

While Bandai Namco published the Souls Series and is responsible for the development of Code Vein, From Software was responsible for the development of the games, and their recently released title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is more of a direct successor to the Dark Soul’s series.

Code Vein - New Screenshots

by Silver, 01:09

Some new screenshots for Code Vein at Dualshockers.

Today Bandai Namco Entertainment released a large gallery of screenshots of the upcoming Souls-like action JRPG Code Vein.

We get to take a new look at Eva and Jack. Jack is extremely powerful, and he will slay anyone who stands in the way of his missions. His strange blue eyes may have something to do with his enormous strength. Eva accompanies him at all times.

We also get to see another area of the game, named “Sand Crown Castle.” It’s an urban area that has been submerged by sand, which has killed all vegetation. It includes dangerous areas where enemies lay buried, and wait in ambush ready to attack unsuspecting revenant.

Code Vein - Delayed to 2019

by Silver, 10:48

PC Gamer reports that Code Vein has been delayed until 2019.

"Code Vein has received an enormous amount of positive feedback from eager fans who have received hands-on time with in-development versions of the game over the past nine months," says Hervé Hoerdt, Vice President of Marketing and Digital at Bandai Namco Europe. "Armed with knowledge of how well the game has already been received, we made the decision to postpone the release of Code Vein to further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title. It was a difficult decision to make, but we feel it is the correct one."

Code Vein - New Screenshots and Video

by Silver, 13:23

Dualshockers has new screenshots and video for Code Vein.

We get a new reveal for Io. So far she was shown simply as an inhabitant of the main character’s base but looks like she is actually a companion NPC that can follow the hero around and fight by his side.

She is an all-rounder fighter who fights with a large spear. Her abilities focus on supporting the player with HP recovery and curing abnormal statuses. On the other hand, her attack power is average, so the offense is left mostly to the player.

Io uses an “Ivy” type blood veil, which you can see in action in a previous trailer.

Code Vein - Preview @ Polygon

by Hiddenx, 19:18

Polygon checked out the action RPG Code Vein:

Code Vein

We go dungeon-fighting with a vampire

Code Vein is an action role-playing game from the director of many of the God Eater games. It’s drawn comparisons with the Dark Souls series, which publisher Bandai Namco handles outside Japan. Most particularly, these comparisons come about because Code Vein focuses on exploration in dank locations, one-on-one combat and frightful bosses.

We spent some time with the game earlier this week, and brought back gameplay footage in the video above. It offers a sense of the game’s pacing and of its aesthetic, which will also draw comparisons with Bloodborne.

Code Vein - Dev Interview

by Hiddenx, 09:09

Farflame spotted a Code Vein developer interview at Dualshockers:

Code Vein Interview — Developers Talk Open World, Difficulty, Companions, and More

Code Vein's Producer and Director give more information on what players, including fans of the Souls series, can expect from the game.

Code Vein is certainly one of the most interesting projects in the upcoming line-up by Bandai Namco, and in order to learn more about the game, DualShockers sat down with Producer Keita Iizuka and Director Hiroshi Yoshimura during a group interview at the publisher’s headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo.

First of all, we get the confirmation that the game has an open world similar to the Dark Souls series, with every area connected. Players can freely choose where they want to go.

On the other hand, the most relevant difference with the Dark Souls series is the NPC companions that can follow the playable protagonist. They can come along in dungeons, and they can cooperate with players, so that they can experience dramatic dungeon exploration.
