Code Vein II - Buddy System
RPG Site explains the buddy system of Code Vein II:
Code Vein II Buddy system explained in more detail
Bandai Namco has published a new Japanese press release where they revealed more details on the Buddy system in Code Vein II. The new information explains the benefits a Buddy can provide by having them accompany you, in addition to brief summaries for the 6 Buddies known so far.
HP and LP (Link Points)
- The latter indicates the linkage between you and your Buddy. When you take damage, the LP will be depleted first and your HP will only be depleted if the LP gauge is already empty. And when you are recovering, the HP gauge will fill first and any excess amount will then be used to recover LP.
Buddy Buffs
- Link Trait - Each Revenant Buddy will have a different Link Trait that will give a benefit during battles and/or explorations, but it will only be valid when there is a strong linkage with the LP gauge not depleted.
- Buddy Bonus Trait - Buffs to player stats or actions that will permanently apply by choosing the specific Buddy, and the effects can be amplified by improving your relationship with them.
Buddy Actions
- Revenant Attack - Buddies can also use Revenant Attacks to absorb blood from enemies. They can also share some of the blood with the player, which will recover a small amount of Ichor.
- Gift Heal - When the player is knocked out, the Buddy can use Gift Heal to revive you. However, this will cause the Buddy to become unavailable for a good while.
Buddy Change
- You can change your current Buddy anytime at a checkpoint. There is also a generic Jail Equipment called Guardian's Heart that will let you sortie without any Buddy.

Code Vein II Gets More Screenshots, Details
Since its release date announcement at Tokyo Game Show, Bandai Namco released new details and screenshots for action RPG Code Vein II. The new information covers the game’s Partner characters, weapon options, and character creation.
Code Vein II is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity’s existence is hanging by a thread. The sudden emergence of a threat known as the Luna Rapacis has seen Revenants — humans with supernatural abilities that come at the cost of severe bloodlust — transformed into creatures called Horrors. Players control a customised protagonist, who travels back 100 years to the past with the assistance of a mysterious girl called Lou MagMell to try and rewrite the fate of the world.

[Preview] Code Vein II reimagines the anime formula through the lens of time
Vampires, apocalypses, time travel and moons: Code Vein II aims to go all in on sci-fi and fantasy twists
Bandai Namco wants us to know that whatever our thoughts were about the original Code Vein, this sequel is bigger and bigger, and also bigger. Once again it’s an open world Action-Adventure RPG with brutal bosses, tons of exploration, and a story that may require a wall of sticky notes and string, but it’s not meant to be a direct sequel to the original. Rather, this reimagining is only possible because the Soulslike genre and development technology have come a long, long way in the years since its 2019 release.
Our hands-off presentation at Summer Game Fest involved some story elements but really focused on the gameplay and action. Set in the post-apocalyptic future after a moon-based calamity happens (the moon is depicted as being chained to the earth, floating auspiciously close in the sky, and it’s friggin’ cool) Revenants, the vampiric denizens of this world, are slowly being turned monstrous. Things are getting chaotic (thanks again, Moon) and the different Revenant houses are battling for control, with Humans getting in the way sometimes. Our job as the Revenant Hunter is to save the world, alongside Lou MagMell, a character that revived us after we’d disposed of.

RPG Site checked out Code Vein II:
Code Vein II seems to embrace the identity that its predecessor cultivated through the loyal fanbase it found
The first Code Vein may not have set the world on fire, but it did find its own loyal audience that feverishly vouched for the “anime Soulslike”. A common sentiment that many Code Vein players shared is that despite its flaws, it was a solid first attempt that has a lot of potential to see improvements if it ever got a sequel. Six years since the release of the first Code Vein, the developers over at Bandai Namco Studios and Shift are back with Code Vein II.
Bandai Namco invited me to see a special presentation on Code Vein II that shared new details behind closed doors. Some of the first things shared was that the developers identified that two of the most popular features from the first Code Vein, based on player feedback, were its character creator and the AI partner character system. They strived to expand on both of these features that were so heavily praised from Code Vein II’s predecessor.

Code Vein II First Look at Summer Game Fest 2025
During Summer Game Fest 2025, I got to sit in on a gameplay presentation of Bandai Namco’s upcoming action RPG Code Vein II, a follow-up to their 2019 hit Code Vein! From the looks of it, the developers have truly expanded on the first game, building on its co-op gameplay systems, character customization, weapon types, and more to create an elevated experience.
The developers began the session with an overview of Code Vein II’s post-apocalyptic narrative and lore. In this world of humans and Revenants, Revenants have held the collapse of the world at bay. However, the rise of the Luna Rapacis in the present has caused the Revenants to turn into Horrors, threatening the order and accelerating the collapse of the world. The protagonist and his Revenant companion Lou MagMell embark on a journey between the present and 100 years in the past to save the world from ruin, meeting with key Revenants to alter the course of history. Despite being a Revenant Hunter, the protagonist dies during a mission, meeting Lou when she revives him by giving him half of her heart.
The gameplay we viewed showed the protagonist and Lou’s meeting with a powerful Revenant in the past named Valentin Voda, heir to the Voda House. Valentin is researching formae to assist what remains of humanity and seeks help from the protagonist.
