Enderal - Now Becoming Compatible with Skyrim Special Edition

by Silver, 20:21

PC Gamer reports that Skyrim mod Enderal is becoming compatible with the special edition.

Last month SureAI, the team behind the hugely popular Skyrim overhaul Enderal, announced they have moved on to focus on a commercial project, and won't be updating Enderal to be compatible with Skyrim Special Edition (the original version required "Oldrim" to play). However, fans have since taken on the task and created a version of Enderal that runs in the Skyrim Special Edition engine, with a Steam release on the way.

Advantages of being able to play Enderal in Skyrim Special Edition include "smoother image quality and improved lighting effects" as well as "Best performance and stability", they say. It also makes a VR version possible, and someone's working on a VR mod already.

Enderal - Final Patch released / New Game planned

by Hiddenx, 07:50

Enderal got a final patch and SureAI is working on a commercial game:

Enderal Patchnotes 1.6.4.0 (Final Patch)

Enderal Patch 1.6.4.0 is now available. Here are the patchnotes.

Walk blessed,

the new patch 1.6.4.0 is now available! This patch will be the final one for Enderal, because we no longer have the amount of free time we used to have to keep on patching it! This also means that we will not create a port for Skyrim Special Edition.

SureAI is currently working on a new, commercial project which will hopefully be announced this year. So stay tuned for news and keep an eye on our social media channels.

Furthermore, the Korean localization is now available on Steam.

Steam will automatically download and install this patch for the English and German version. It needs to be translated for other localizations of the game (currently Simplified Chinese, Italian, Russian, French, Spanish, Japanese and Korean) and it will be available as soon as the responsible translation teams finished their work.

Be careful, the patch notes contain spoilers to some extent.

Thanks to community member overdev who provided fixes to this patch.

Stay safe and have fun playing!

Tech:

  • Fixed that the damage dealt by the talent Archaic Might was reduced by armor directly, very often resulting in dealing 0 damage on the highest talent rank.
  • (Set of the Tracker) Fortune of the Tracker now properly increases Rhetoric when being worn.
  • Disenchanting Sublime Garments now grants the proper enchantment.
  • Fixed that some bows would disappear when they were dropped from the inventory.

Sound:

  • Fixed two sound files.

UI:

  • Fixed various typos.

Thanks Couchpotato!

Enderal - Steam Release News

by Hiddenx, 17:23

Enderal will be available on Steam in January 2019:

Release News

Walk blessed,

Christmas is here, and Enderal isn't - why is that? We've promised an announcement this week - and this is it.

Long story short: though we submitted our Steam build some weeks back, the unusual data structure and Enderal's dependency on Skyrim makes the process a lot more complicated than we thought. Until Steam approves of our build, we can't release.

All this means that Enderal isn't coming before January 2019. Since we have no control over the process, we can't even give a definitive date here, but rest assured that we want a timely release as much as you do.

On the other hand, this additional buffer gives us more time to polish, bugfix and test the hell out of the game, which ultimately means a better product. We're also working hard on our fancy cinematic release trailer which we're releasing in the coming weeks, as well as the first chapter of the Jespar novel (altogether with a redesigned Patreon page.)

Finally, we'd like to share this new song from the new Rhalâta quest line with you, performed by the talented Lauren Synger. We'll also share lots of exciting stuff in the days from now until release to make the wait a little easier.

Sorry for the delay, thanks for your patience and your ongoing support, and happy holidays! We'll make sure that Forgotten Stories will be worth the wait.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,

The SureAI Team

Enderal - Patch 1.2.4.0 is out

by Hiddenx, 19:33

The Enderal patch 1.2.4.0 has been released:

Version 1.2.4.0

Changelog

General:

  • The in-game Paper Worldmap is now included! Many thanks to duncanlarsen1 and urst! If you have questions or problems regarding the map, make sure to check out this post in our forum.

  • "The Sole Place" (NQ11): Fixed a dialogue duplicate.
  • "Divide and Conquer" (NQ12): Fixed typos, vocals and topics.
  • "Trails of the Past" (NQ19): The note now works as intended: It doesn't start the quest a second time if the player has already talked to Tiwon about the quest and starts the quests properly if you read about the quest the first time.
  • "Put Off the Evil Hour" (NQ21): An objective will be displayed properly after talking with Kabar about the Rhalâta.
  • "Like Newly Born" (NQ22): Added an objective so that the player knows what to do after finding all pages of the journal, however it doesn't point to the Apothekari.
  • "Hidden in the Puzzle" (NQ40): Objectives will work as intended.
  • "It Starts with the Dreams" (MQP03): The helpmessage of the puzzle won't be displayed after inserting the key.
  • "The First Steps" (MQ03): Fixed an issue where the player would have a broken arrow after reequipping a bow.

  • "Deus Ex Machina" (MQ07b): Fixed an issue in which Lishari wouldn't show up after entering Old Dothûlgrad.
  • "All the Dead Souls" (MQ11b): Fixed a rare case of Jespar not being disabled in the first scene in the Dancing Nomad and therefore causing confusion.
  • "A Song in the Silence" (MQ11c): The stealth minigame in Dal'Geyss house does not reset multiple times when the player is caught by multiple guards at the same time.
  • "A Song in the Silence" (MQ11c): The butterfly minigame now works as intended and the objectives won't be displayed multiple times.
  • "A Song in the Silence" (MQ11c): Removed misleading objective at the end of the quest.
  • "Black Light, Part II" (MQ12b): The game does no longer request multiple autosaves upon entering the gate house. This might prevent a crash.

Enderal - Patch 1.2.2.0 and DLC News

by Hiddenx, 21:13

Patch 1.2.2.0 has been released. Here's the patch log. Farflame spotted some news about the upcoming DLC:

Greetings Prophets and Prophetesses,

I originally posted this on my Facebook page, but I think it's relevant, so I'll share it here as well!

It's been a bit quiet lately, and some people have asked me whether the DLC project is still alive - let me reassure you, it absolutely is. The team is still working hard, and I'm trying to get work done whenever I can.

The main reason I haven't been able to contribute nearly as much as I would have liked to, is because I was offered a very good position as a writer for Grimlore Games in Munich, working on the recent instalment of the Spellforce series. It was meant to be part-time, but due to the insane work-load it became a full-time job (more than that actually, but luckily I get all overhours paid). I also work on the week-ends, so you can imagine that I have not been able to contribute as much as I would have wanted to. Also, I have gotten back into making music (a hobby which I almost entirely dropped for Enderal) and am investing a lot of time into my novel (of which I've already finished the first draft, 550 pages, and which will be done this year).

The good news is that the writing for the DLC is close to completion already, so that the team isn't running out of task anytime soon. The bad news is that I feel bad getting financial support from you guys while contributing so little to the actual project.

In other words: The DLC will take a little longer than planned, but it will definitely be released - we're continously making progress, just not as fast as we did when I worked 50-60 hours a week. I thought about sharing the Patreon income with these on the team who are still working as hard as before, but if any of you guys want to withdraw your pledges, I fully understand.

We'll keep you posted!

Enderal - Patch 1.1.7.0 is out

by Hiddenx, 18:41

You can find the patch notes for Enderal 1.1.7.0 here:

Changelog

Quest:

  • "Gnarldalf has to die!" (NQ06): Giving the horse or mule an empty name is no longer possible. Thanks to Zorg!
  • "Trails of the Past" (NQ19): Now, the posting in front of the Dancing Nomad tavern actually starts the quest, providing an alternative path to starting the quest via talking to Tiwon or finding an artefact (Script wasn't compiled).
  • "Part Of Something Momentous, Part II" (MQ05): A few failsaves moving Aixon and the player to the intended places if they don’t arrive.
  • "The Word of the Dead" (MQ07a): The conversation with Lexil Merrayîl cannot be interrupted by bumping into him.
  • "Deus Ex Machina" (MQ07b): The first encounter with Lishari should now be less prone to bugs.
  • (MQ07bAftermath): Player alias now gets cleared after the quest. Also, the script on the alias should now work.
  • "The Lion's Den" (MQ09): The player should definitely be unable to jump over the barricads of the nehrimese camp.
  • "The Lion's Den" (MQ09): After the "Cycle" theme has finished playing during the player’s second encounter with the High Ones, there will be silence until the scene with Tealor and Taranor.
  • "The Lion's Den" (MQ09): Removed stucking cricket sounds, maybe fixed a bug in which the music was removed during the follow-up quests.
  • "Angel" (MQ11a) Calia now has a fallback AI package.
  • "A Song in the Silence" (MQ11c): The Scene with the Dog is hardened against pathfinding failure.
  • "A Song in the Silence" (MQ11c): The player should no longer get the key to the cave twice. The script now checks if the player already has the key.
  • "Every Day Like The Last, Part II" (CQJ02): Silence box now works (script was not compiled).
  • "Every Day Like The Last, Part II" (CQJ02): Jespar shouldn’t stop during the scene at the top of the watch tower due to pathfinding failure. If the scene still stops use "resetai" on Jespar in the console.

Tech:

by Hiddenx, 23:20

A free DLC for a free RPG - the Forgotten Stories DLC will be available for Enderal in 2017:

Enderal: Forgotten Stories (DLC)

Enderal: Forgotten Stories is an expansion-pack/DLC for Enderal. It is being developed mainly by Nicolas Lietzau, one of the project leads and lead writer of the main game, with the support of a small part of the SureAI-team. “Enderal: Forgotten Stories” aims to bring in parts of the story’s content that had to be cut from the initial release, adding 10-20 hours of new quest content, as well as improving several aspects of the main game. Without further ado, here's a small teaser we prepared for you meant to give you an idea of what "Forgotten Stories" will be about:

loading...

  • Two guild quest-lines: Join the Golden Sickle, Enderal's most influential merchants’ guild and experience an exceptional non-linear story that deals with intrigue and greed. Delve into the secrets behind the Rhalâta, the mysterious cult ruling the Undercity.
  • A story mission revolving around the Sea Of Eventualities and Yuslan Sha'Rim's past
  • A quest shedding light on the Veiled Woman's origins
  • A mission that allows the player to explore in detail the death of a certain character
  • A secret ending for the main-quest
  • New bounty missions
  • Professional localization in both German and English (starring, amongst others, Dave Fennoy from "The Walking Dead" and Lani Minella from "Skyrim")
  • New weapons and sets
  • Several game-play changes and additions, such as hidden talents, rebalanced and overhauled crafting skills, high-level crafting, and enchantment that makes investing in craftsmanship a lot more rewarding.

Enderal - Review @GameStar.de

by Gorath, 16:09

The German mag GameStar - a few years ago the world's biggest PC game magazine - posted a very enthusiastic review of SureAI's Skyrim total conversion Enderal. I'll post more details than usual because this is the first published review for this game.

GameStar's test is accompanied by a 15 minute long video in which their editor in chief and two other editors explain why they've decided to review a free mod and which standards they'll apply. Their answer: Enderal's quality is on par with other full price AAA RPGs. They'll apply their normal review standards for a 50€ game, without any bonus. GameStar didn't review mods in the last couple of years. They want their review to be seen as sort of a reward for the developers.

Here are a few translated quotes from the article:

Enderal's biggest USP compared to Skyrim is the story. While it's only more or less an attachment in Bethesda's classic, it plays a key role in Enderal. The first ten minutes prove this impressively. The intro is disturbing and poses a lot of questions. [...]
Who wants to save virgin vampirewomen while riding a dragon is wrong in Enderal, though. It doesn't make epic heroic deeds its focus, but rather personal fate and the human abyss [This half of the sentence is in plural in the German text - ed.]. It discusses questions about religion, idealism and ethics.[...]

GameStar explains that although some of the dialogs seem a bit excessive at times, Enderal succeeds in finding the sweet spot in the mix of story and quests. The main storyline is "wonderfully told".

An enthralling story needs a believable world around it though [...]. And the Enderal devs overcame this challenge too.[...]

This was flashed out a bit in the video. The editors said the whole world feels handmade. Not even the dungeons leave the impression of being made with a construction kit. The world oozes with attention to detail.

The verdict:

Heiko Klinge:

Enderal is great RPG-art on world class level. The start is so dramatic, fast paced and - gameplay wise - exciting that even masters of the craft like Bethesda and CD Projekt are welcome to take several leaves out of [SureAI's] book. And after that Enderal serves a magnificent adventure from start to finish, which hardly leaves anything to be desired. [...]

 The only mentioned weeknesses are:

  • quick travel is unconvincing
  • balancing is only okay
  • a couple of technical issues

A summary of the good stuff:

  • great story, deep characters, all with background story
  • good quests with a lot of diversity
  • no level scaling
  • 6 difficulty levels
  • graphics upgrade compared to Skyrim
  • superb sound track
  • professional voice acting (GER / ENG)

The Rating:

89%, 2% deducted for technical issues, means 87%.

Enderal - News Update @ ModDB

by Hiddenx, 22:08

ModDB gives an overview about the current status of Enderal:

Greetings,

one and a half months have passed since the last article - time to give you all a short overview of Enderal's current status:

Currently more than 6500 bugs have been fixed in Enderal, with a bit more than 700 reports remaining in our bug tracker. While we are a bit short-staffed in the bugfixing department (for technical issues at least) the development is still going strong.

Also the translation team now has more than 10 members and is working full force on the books. At the same time we have started to translate the string files and are proofreading our translated dialogue so that our voice actors can do their work.

On the subject of voice acting: the german version will have around 45 actors, the english one most likely around 30.

Also by now ca. 70% of the german voice acting is already ingame, the rest has yet to be cut and implemented :-)

So far for the development process, but I've still got some more about Enderal itself:

We did a main quest run recently (with cheating and while skipping dialogue, exploration and all side quests). At the end of the run we had a playtime of nearly 38 hours! For comparison: the same type of run took us 23,5 hours to complete in Nehrim ;-)

At the end of this article I have something juicy for you - the "Vision" video you may have already seen in our YouTube-Channel, but now subbed (the sentences in brackets are background voices):

Thanks Caleb!

Enderal - Christmas News

by Hiddenx, 20:59

Caleb8980 reports: "The game is content complete"

loading...

Quite the eyeturner, isn't it? :-D Also the video shows Vanilla-Enderal, no ENB or texture replacers.

Also I'm quite excited to announce here that Enderal is now content complete - that means they are currently doing just 3 things: bugfixing, polishing and translating the ingame textes into english (much of the dialogue is already translated so that the english VAs can do their work without problems).

Last but not least there already was a little update concerning the bugfixing phase - currently more than 3000 bugs have been fixed in Enderal. While this is impressive in itself it gets ridiculous if you compare some other numbers to that: At the beginning of the alpha phase in mid-August just 600 bugs were fixed and the release version of Nehrim had only 600 bugs fixed, too!

That said, stay tuned for the next updates and have a merry christmas :-)

December-Dev-News on SureAI.Net:
