Flashbulb Madness

The Flashbulb Madness RPG was designed and developed using a modified and unlicensed English version of Enterbrain's Japanese RPG Maker 2000, over a period of eight years.

Almost all of the resources used in the game were collected from the internet with the majority of the resources coming from old commercial console (SNES, NES, Gameboy, Playstation 1) games.

GFX: Due to the low resolution nature of the graphics supported by the program, their source was anything that could be edited to look remotely consistent with the rest. Most of the charsets were found over the internet and were either anonymous creations, edits from the original charset assets of Enterbrain's RPG Maker 2000 or rips from old commercial console games. In addition, I personally edited the crap out of several charsets and chipsets in order to make them suit the game need's.  I had good tools on my disposal and I was slowly able to create from scratch (or edit) the thousands of .png files that are used by the game.

SFX: Many of the .wav files used in the game were downloaded from http://www.freesound.org/ and were later modified to fit the needs. Others were ripped from a variety of sources (movies, youtube, commercial games such as Worms Armageddon and Thief, actually, if I liked something I would record it and try to use it someplace) and a few were created by myself.

Music: That's an entirely different matter.  I really wish I knew how to compose music so I could have been more autonomous because really, I had to completely rely on other peoples' music. Of all the .mid files used, the vast majority comes from old console games that were downloaded from a website that archives them, http://www.vgmusic.com/. Others were found floating on the internet. For more details, check Midis.txt.

Special thanks go to:

-Family and friends: for tolerating my recurring/random bouts of unnatural thirst for solitary creativity.

-Enterbrain: for developing and releasing in Japan the wonderful instrument that is the RPG Maker 2000.

-Don Miguel: for translating the Japanese version of that wonderful instrument into a somewhat more understandable English version.

-Gnaf: for his "patch" of the RPG Maker 2000 program that allowed me to use 50 pictures at the same time on a period that I really yearned for such a feature.

-Cherry: for his eager assistance to code me a custom patch that overcame certain limitations of the RPG Maker 2000 and allowed for some extra polish.

-I could trace this project to the work of many other important influences but then the list would just grow long and soppy and I wouldn't want that so I guess I'll have to stick with those five mentions!
