Gods - LoI - Review @ Gaming Excellence

by Dhruin, 07:36

It's been quite a while since we've seen a GODS review but Blue's is pointing one out at Gaming Excellence. The score is a low 5.8/10, although the text indicates the game is merely "mediocre", not "bad":

As you travel through various areas in the game, you’ll be treated to the first-person view (reminiscent of the Might and Magic series), as Vivien, while the party members acquired through travel are displayed across the bottom. From this interface, you can manage your inventory, check your stats (and raise them, if you’ve levelled up), and use alchemical recipes, a simple but innovative system that can be used with a variety of ingredients, fuel, and mana to create a variety of potions and other results. Travelling is easy enough, and looks decent, if not a little bland. There is also very limited interactivity to the game, as you can not actually enter buildings, so shopkeepers just stand outside, waiting for you to speak to them.

Gods - LoI - SE Coming to GameTap on Sept 20th!

by Txa1265, 19:54

Check it out here:

The world of Bellarion has been ravaged by war -- not war between mortals, but between gods! After 1000 years, the stalemate was broken by the god of Darkness, Mortagorn, whose priests now wield a power against which no magic, mortal or divine, can protect. You take the role of Vivien, avatar of the god of fire Arswaargh, as you search for a countermeasure against Mortagorn’s dark power.

You have to be a paying member to play this, but given the amazing amount of stuff coming to the service it is getting more compelling every week!

Gods - LoI - Review @ Out of Eight

by Txa1265, 19:14

The latest review of the 'Special Edition' of Gods: Lands of Infinity is from Out of Eight, giving it 5/8 which equates to "Buy it if you really like the genre". This is much more positive than the GameSpot review but still calls the game "decidedly average".

The battles in the game are turn-based, much like the Final Fantasy series. Each turn, you can choose an attack, spell, item from your inventory, a formation change, or defend an attack. Complicating the process is the use of action points that prevents you from attacking every turn and requires you to defend (usually resulting in just as much damage) every couple of turns. The AI doesn’t seem to play by the same rules, as I rarely noticed them defending on any turn. The enemies you will encounter have a very basic AI that usually consists of attacking and the occasional spell. The combat is not very exciting and it lasts a really long time; the enemies are very powerful when you start a new game and you’ll need a constant supply of health potions just to survive against even the most basic foe.

Gods - LoI - Review @ GameSpot

by Dhruin, 05:55

Slamming the story as "ridiculous", GameSpot has reviewed Gods: Lands of Infinity and awarded a score of 4/10:

Role-playing games don't come much cheaper or generic than Gods: Lands of Infinity. This by-the-numbers RPG isn't so much awful as it is afflicted by a total lack of innovation by the developers at Cypron Studios and bargain basement production values. With that said, this is still a relatively competent take on the genre that you might enjoy, depending on your tolerance for tedium, as well as some of the goofiest voice acting and dialogue ever committed to an RPG.

Gods - LoI - Review @ HookedGamers

by Txa1265, 17:40

HookedGamers has a positive review of Gods: LoI. The final score is 8.0, and here is a snippit:

While replayability rarely scores very high with me I find Gods: Lands of Infinity scores well in this area. After finishing the game I felt compelled to go back and see what choices other than my original ones would cause, as there were quite a few different choices you could make. Gods: Lands of Infinity is a highly enjoyable game that defies the 'tiredness' that we see so often in other Role Playing Games. If you are looking for something different, this game is for you.

Gods - LoI - Kyla Cole Special Edition Features

by Garrett, 12:07

Cypron Studios answered our question whether the SE will be available an update for the regular version of Gods:

...Special Edition of Gods will be new version of Gods with Kyla Cole as main hero.

The special edition will contain Kyla as main hero and lot of improvements players asked for:

 • debbuged version with no bugs (or just a minimum ;)
 • new improved animations
 • better graphic
 • brand new soundtrack
 • improved sound effects
 • we would like to improve the alchemy too
 • the retail version will probably contain Kyla Cole calendar (like wallpapers we have just released) for 2007 and Gods OST (original soundtrack CD)

There are still many countries (US, UK, France...) where Gods:LoI hasn't been released yet so we want to attract publishers/players with new, improved GODS:LOI SPECIAL VERSION. And, this game will not contain any sexual content! We are going to release an official PRESS about GODS LOI SE features soon.

Gods: Lands of Infinity - Wrap Report @ RPG Vault

by Dhruin, 22:32
Team members from Cypron Studios have penned a Gods: Lands of Infinity Wrap Report for RPG Vault. Here's Martin Sabo-Balog on their high-level goals:
When we first decided to create Gods: Lands of Infinity, we wanted to make a brand new kind of a fantasy game - something wondrous, adventurous, entertaining, exciting - something that you would remember. The first and the most important aspect of any game concept is entertainment, and the feel of an adventure. We wanted to avoid knotty game calculations, lots of tables, statistics, and long, boring dialogues as we assumed that if a player wants to play, he doesn't want to read a 600-page book. We allow the player to walk in a fanciful environment, to fight monsters, to wield mighty weapons and amazing spells, to meet interesting fantasy characters and share their destinies. The final effect we got from our "alchemy room" is a smooth, catchy and original game that combines various features from other RPGs and tries to avoid their negative experiences. We wanted to forge an adventure!

Gods: Lands of Infinity - Review @ The Armchair Empire

by Dhruin, 22:30
The Armchair Empire has kicked up a review of Cypron's Gods: Lands of Infinity. Another site to use the ubiquitous Oblivion comparison, the score is 6.5/10:
I promised myself, in writing this review of Cypron Studios new 3D RPG a SGods: Lands of Infinity,a ? that I would try to do so without mentioning Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. (Oh damn. I just did.) Okay, yes, ita "!s unfair to compare a release by a small, independent Slovakian developer with a major North American title in an established series. However, ita "!s hard not to make the comparison and to keenly feel the differences. While appealing and distinctive in some ways, Gods most often feels like a less substantial, less deep and less fun version of Bethesda a "!s blockbuster.

Gods: Lands of Infinity Review @ Just Press Play

by Kalia, 22:55
Just Press Play has posted the latest review of Gods: Lands of Infinity. Scoring it a respectable 8.33/10.00, the reviewer said:
Despite a couple gripes that I had with the trade, fighting, and so forth, they were not large enough for me to not enjoy the game, and I did enjoy it. It has a wonderful storyline and great music. The combat system is innovative and really makes you think of what combination of characters should be in battle together. Ita "!s well planned and though not fully realized, does a great job of pulling you into the world of Bellarion and makes you want to find that ultimate weapon. Be forewarned though this is a download so if you have a slow internet connection it will take a very long time to get this game.

Gods: Lands of Infinity - Review @ GameZone

by Dhruin, 01:10
Cypron's Gods: Lands of Infinity has been reviewed at GameZone, resulting in the rather strong score of 8.1/10, despite some odd comparisons:
At first, the game was somewhat reminiscent of Morrowind. You have an avatar that NPCs react to, that navigates throughout the realm, deals with merchants, get side quests to act as diversions (and to make the leveling-up grind palatable) and seek clues to the locations of the lost gods. Of course, you cana "!t just rush into the area where one might be. You are young and powerless, and should you die, game over. You can reload the game at the last save point, but the lesson there is save often.

Gods: Lands of Infinity Review @ Strategy Informer

by Kalia, 16:41
Gods: Lands of Infinity is the subject of a review at Strategy Informer. Scoring a paltry 4.2/10.00, the reviewer said:
So with the graphics barely any good and the sound being under par, it all comes down to game play now. Now there are some old, some new and plenty of annoying aspects for this RPG. The movement controls are simplistic, it basically comes down to the mouse really, though you can move your character with the usual a, s, w, d keys, I found the mouse to be easier, left click the ground and youa "!ll move. Makes moving long distances slightly tolerable, click & move, wait, click & move, waita ¦ and so forth. Right-click and hold gives you control of the camera angle allowing you to find the best view point. Though this is a limited viewpoint due to the fact that you are unable to move around the game world in 3rd person view, which for some may be more of an annoyance. There are few limitations on where you can go, excluding the usual inability to climb mountains and the addition of the inability to traverse water unless it is as shallow as a puddle, additionally; clipping is an issuea ¦ see that tree root? Think you can just walk over it? Dona "!t be fooled, if you think youa "!ll be able to walk over something, ita "!s probably faster to walk the long way round.

RPGDot Feature: Gods: Lands of Infinity - A Review

by Dhruin, 07:48
Corwin takes a look a Cypron Studios' Gods: Lands of Infinity, which was recently released as a digital download via TotalGaming. Here's a sample:
Continuing this theme of horses for courses, the game is very linear. There is no wide open world to explore such as you find in Oblivion - rather there are a series of 'maps' which continue to be revealed as you progress through the storyline. Fortunately, these maps are all linked on the 'ingame' world map, so travel between them, once they are opened to you, is quick and simple. Just find a signpost, click on it and the world map opens. Click where you wish to go and basically you're there. The game even autosaves every time you enter a different map. Actually, the demo is the most non-linear part of the game. Some of the early quests are very much of the Fed-ex type, but these are soon replaced by more and more strategic combat and this is where the game really shines for me.
Head here to read it all.

Gods: Lands of Infinity - Review @ Four Fat Chicks

by Dhruin, 22:32
Four Fat Chicks jumps the release of GODS: Lands of Infinity just a little to bring a short review. There's no score as usual for this site other than a "thumbs up", so here's the conclusion:
Tough but very miserly opponents, coupled with having to spend so much time in "FedEx" mode just to make a profit from trade, are my only real complaints with this game. I did mention that Cypron Studios is a Slovakian developer, and it can be obvious in some of the game's scripting. This is less apparent in the game's dialogue, but it is noticeable (not that it detracts from this game at alla or at least not for me). I may have missed a minor gripe or two beyond thisa it is rather hard for me to constantly look for problems when I'm having fun. And I did have fun playing Gods: Lands of Infinitya no question about that at all.

Gods: Lands of Infinity - German Review @ WithinGames

by Dhruin, 02:47
WithinGames sent us a note about their review of Cypron's GODS: Lands of Infinity, which according to their forums should now be available for English players around the 27th.

Unlike a recent review we linked that scored 60% with comments on the technology, WithinGames writes "the categories that count in an rpg (like storyline, tactical combat, character development and diversification) are convincing in Gods (and in a few ways a lot more than in games like Oblivion)", resulting in a score of 4/5.

Gods: Lands of Infinity - German Review @ GameCaptain

by Dhruin, 22:40
German site GameCaptain has a review of Cypron's 'GODS: Lands of Infinity', which is due to be released to English audiences any day now through TotalGaming.net.

The score is a disappointing 67%, although the text seems to compare briefly against Oblivion saying the gameplay holds up but the technology doesn't - and hopefully some of the fixes being applied to the English version will be of help.
