Greed - Review @ Gear Diary

by Dhruin, 20:35

The second of Michael Anderson's articles is a review of the low-profile hack'n'slasher, Greed:

As I said at the top, while I started late with the action-RPG genre, I have really fallen in love with many of the games. And while my personal preference is story and character driven games, I appreciate games that focus on the loot-grinding cycle, as well as strictly combat-centric games. Each sub-genre – when well done – provides dozens of hours of enjoyment. And that is the problem: Greed – Black Border doesn’t know what sort of game it really wants to be, so it tries a bunch of things halfheartedly, and ends up doing none of them well.

Greed - Review @ Resolution

by Dhruin, 19:39

Hack'n'slasher lite Greed has been reviewed at Resolution magazine, scoring 5/10.  A bit on dialogue:

That said, while the dialogue begins badly delivered, with atrocious voice acting and ill-explained situations, by the end of chapter two it becomes apparent that the cheesy delivery may have been intentional, and after some in-game jokes regarding the situation and sci-fi convention as a whole your attitude towards the characters and the narrative shifts to a new perspective. Chapter two also sees dialogue between the characters increase in frequency in a natural way, and feels like the two bonding and becoming more confident as the story progresses.

In related news, there was a Steam update for Greed yesterday.

Greed - Review @ GameBanshee

by Dhruin, 19:48

GameBanshee let us know they have a short review of the hack'n'slasher, Greed:

Greed has a relatively short campaign.  I finished it after 15-20 hours, and I was surprised when it ended.  I thought I had just completed the first act of the game, and then suddenly the credits started rolling.  However, while I was surprised I wasn’t sad.  The game had been so repetitive and dull up to that point that I was thrilled to be done with it.
