Grotesque Tactics 2 - Review @ GameBanshee

by Dhruin, 22:48

GameBanshee has reviewed Silent Dream's Grotesque Tactics 2. The text appreciates the attempt to make improvements from the first game but finds the changes didn't actually work out:

The good news with Dungeons & Donuts is that developer Silver Dreams didn't just slap together a new campaign with the existing engine and call it a sequel.  They tried to make the game more complex and interesting; their changes just didn't work, at least in my opinion.  Dungeons & Donuts has a lot more dialogue, but it's not as funny.  The world is bigger, but it's more confusing.  And you're given more options for how to develop characters, but these options aren't explained well and lead to frustration.  The result is that I didn't like Dungeons & Donuts as much as Evil Heroes, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you really liked the original game, or until the price drops.  But with that being said, I think Silver Dreams is a developer to watch, and I'm cautiously optimistic that their next title will be better.

Grotesque Tactics 2 - Review @ Just Press Start

by Aries100, 18:09

Just Press Start has a review for this game. No score is given, however, he author didn't like the game much as he had problems with the voice acting, the humour and the tactics in the game. A sample:

I also felt the the tactics side of games was a bit lacking. While the gameplay is very simple, I do want something more from the game. I like being able to change characters classes or having team based moves based on the location of the characters a la the Disgaea series. For the amount of the game that I played, I tried getting something like this to happen, and it just never did, which is upsetting to me.

Grotesque Tactics 2 - Review @ Calm Down Tom

by Aries100, 18:41

A review for this game can be found at Calm Down Tom. The score is 7/10 and here's a snip:

The games storyline is rather amusing and can be quite funny at times. The conversations you have with the various people are a nice change of pace from other games of the genre. The humour mostly revolves around making fun of other games and it makes fun of the RPG genre and its associated tropes as a whole as well. For example, it has a ton of jokes about the hero’s amnesia early in the game. Overall I found the story and the humour to be my favourite parts of the game.

Grotesque Tactics 2 - Review @ Gamespot

by Aries100, 19:24

Gamespot has made a review for this game. The score is 3/10 which, according to Gamespot, comes from the game's weak combat, the bad humor, as well as the bugs.

Unfortunately, you face a different set of problems during combat. While exploring on the map, your companions march with you. But you can't set their marching order; the AI takes care of it. So when combat starts, they're all in a jumble, and when combat ends, they sometimes spread out. This can be problematic if they initiate another battle while spreading out, especially if you're not ready for a battle. When combat occurs, it's pretty standard turn-based fighting. You control your team against the AI foes, who are about as smart as a colony of sea sponges. They generally rush into the fray, targeting your guild members willy-nilly. And they never focus on healers; they just attack whoever is in range first.

Grotesque Tactics 2 - Reviews @ eGamer and Gamers Daily News

by Aries100, 22:01

Two more reviws has surfaced for this game. The first one comes from eGamer  which finds the game "lacking" - a quote:

Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts lacks perceivable depth necessary to warrant a serious purchase. The game may be a serious departure from the norm, but the usage of parody does not cover up the cheesiness of the storyline and the general "un-funniness" of the whole affair.

The second and last one comes from Games Daily News, 8/10 - GDN also gives this game a GDN Silver Award. A quote from the review:

In all, I found Grotesque Tactics 2 to be a hilariously excellent game and a wonderful diversion to all the serious RPGs out there. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a good RPG that has more than a little tongue in cheek.

Here's the PR:

LACE MAMBA GLOBAL TO PUBLISH GROTESQUE TACTICS 2: DUNGEONS & DONUTS IN THE UK, AUSTRALIA – RETAIL EDITION TO ALSO INCLUDE GROTESQUE TACTICS 1

Brighton, November 24th, 2011 – Lace Mamba Global is scheduling to publish retail version of the upcoming PC SRPG Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scandinavia, the Benelux countries, Iceland, Greece and Portugal. The release is planned for Q1 2012. The retail edition will also include a full version of the first Grotesque Tactics game. Lace Mamba Global and publisher Headup Games recently signed an according partnership.

Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts, developed by German studio Silent Dreams, is the sequel to the critically acclaimed RPG parody Grotesque Tactics. The story of Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts begins as the citizens of the Kingdom of Glory celebrate their victory in the catacombs of their former enemies. The revelry is disturbed by a sudden all-encompassing fog. Those that the fog engulfed vanished screaming into the void. Full of despair, the remaining survivors barricade themselves in the depths. Not much time passes, before food becomes short – and moods grim. The Knights of Glory, shady mercenaries and the arrogant high elves band into guilds and begin a struggle for food, survival and escape. Too bad the guilds can’t stand each other, and no one notices the awakening of dark forces in the dungeons below…

Grotesque Tactics 2 will be introducing tons of new content to the saga, such as completely reworked and brand new direction of optical style, a new character creation and levelling system with talent trees, quest logs, and of course a brand new story line involving the great cast of the original Grotesque Tactics game.

More information on Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts will follow at a later stage.
