King's Bounty II - Aivar Trailer

by Myrthos, 11:26

Here is the third trailer for the playable characters of King's Bounty II, which will release tomorrow. This video shows Aivar, representing the fighter class.

Moscow, Russia — August 23rd, 2021

1C Entertainment and Prime Matter are pleased to reveal the third and final trailer revealing King's Bounty II's protagonists. Today's new video introduces Aivar, the former knight of the Royal Guard, who became a mercenary against his will.

The upcoming successor of the unique and critically acclaimed turn-based tactical role-playing series King's Bounty will launch on August 24th, 2021 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Aivar, a descendant of an impoverished noble family, used to be a knight of the Royal Guard. However, at a crucial moment, he refused to support the coup that eventually led to king Claudius's ascension to the throne. His actions saw him banished from the Guard. Aivar escaped to Artisania, where he earned a fine reputation as a mercenary and became the captain of his own troops: the Hounds of War. Recently, Aivar received an invitation to the Universal Assembly, where Prince Adrian promised to pardon him and offered a good position back with the Royal Guard. Aivar is suspicious of the offer, but thinking he'll try his luck he sets out to meet the prince...

Darkness descends over the world of Nostria. Conspiracies, sabotage, and necromancy are overshadowing the country. Counties are demanding independence, bandits prowl the roads, and rumors about the overwhelming power of Blight emerge from a whisper in the dark. The old King Claudius was poisoned and cannot lead the kingdom, and so his son, Prince Adrian, must now unite the struggling lands while his power and faith fall under attack. But maybe a saviour – the kingdom's last hope – is already here, to fight back and finally restore peace and order in Nostria?

King's Bounty II - Elisa Trailer

by Myrthos, 14:30

The third playable character in King's Bounty II has been announced and she goes by the name of Elisa, a human paladin.

loading...

Elisa is a peasant from Lorian on a special mission to save all of Nostria. For more than a decade her homeland in Lorian has been embroiled in civil war. During a clash between farmers and mercenaries, Elisa suddenly acquired magic abilities that helped her push the enemy back, away from her village, and then far from all of Southern Lorian. Chosen by the will of her people, Elisa headed to the Universal Assembly. She wants the King to recognize her as legate on behalf of her people, granting her access to military resources and other means of establishing order in Nostria.

King's Bounty II - Gameplay Video and Previews

by Silver, 23:12

A new gameplay video for King's Bounty II and some previews.

loading...

Preview of gameplay, combat and choices in quests in fantasy RPG with turn-based combat (with english subtitles).

The Xbox Hub went hands-on with the game:

Firstly, the game itself has taken more than a few pointers from the likes of The Witcher, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and Fable. Now, serving as the connective tissue between battles is an assortment of open-world environments, filled with NPCs, quest givers, lore pieces and puzzles. Players can choose between three protagonists (I personally opted for the mage Katharine), and can make meaningful in-game choices across a spectrum of morality. Choose Anarchy or Power, often the easier ways out, and revel in the riches at the expense of others. Opt for Finesse or Order, and you may find yourself underfunded and overextended, but the impacts of your heroic efforts will pay off in spades.

[...]

Checkpoint gaming also checked it out:

It should also be mentioned that King’s Bounty II does not pull its punches in gameplay. Most fights will end in casualties, requiring a trip back to the recruiter to spend your winnings on new soldiers. Unless you make sure to keep your army topped up at all times, you will often find the enemy outnumbering you as well, encouraging defensive play and making good use of cover and bottlenecks in the battlefield. Although this game is somewhat aimed at series veterans, more difficulty options to make the game accessible to those more interested in the story may be desirable.

The other major addition is the open-world exploration. Nostria itself is quite vibrant and detailed, with plenty of hidden collectables and world-building notes to find. I especially liked small environmental details, like flocks of birds flying away as you approach them on horseback. However, the implementation is not perfect. There are fast travel points, however they are not always positioned close to combat areas, and you need to be next to one to travel somewhere else.

King's Bounty II - Katharine Trailer

by Silver, 23:31

A new official trailer for King's Bounty II featuring Katharine.

loading...

We are pleased to reveal the second of three playable characters in King’s Bounty II — Katharine, a human mage who prefers the power of word, intrigue, and magic rather than open confrontation with the enemy.

Katharine comes from a long line of noble Rigern counts, the rulers of the rugged mountain region of Nostria. She spent more than 50 years away from Nostria, roaming the dragon ruins and the remains of ancient Antis, looking for arcane knowledge and magic. However, when Katharine stops receiving the taxes she needs to fund her expeditions and mystical research she discovers that her nephew, Maurice, has taken over her county. Outraged by this, she heads to the Universal Assembly in order to demand the return of her power from the King...

King's Bounty II will be launching on August 24th, 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

King's Bounty II - Preview @RPGamer

by Silver, 18:45

RPGamer has a preview for King's Bounty II. GameWatcher also had a bit to say about the choices you make and how it effects the quests available.

Between combat, the game plays much like other third-person open-world RPGs, complete with plenty of sidequests, areas to explore, and loot and resources to collect. The game map looks fairly large, and players have access to a horse for quicker travel between areas as well as a number of fast-travel points. Choice will play a large part in many of the game’s quests, with players often given multiple ways to proceed, which will result in different outcomes and different opportunities in future. Though the main quest and its conclusion is largely the same, the game encourages multiple playthroughs not only through the choices in sidequests but how the different protagonists play. Some quests even have different potential solutions based on which protagonist is being played.

The area of the game’s world that was shown is vibrant, with plenty of areas of interest and a good mixture of thriving plant life, medieval buildings, impressive marble, and more, with lots of hills and vistas overlooking mountains and lakes. The voice acting has a few stilted deliveries, though as many of the story and quest events were skipped it’s difficult to fully judge how it will hold up across the game at this stage.

[...]

In a new hands-off press demo, developer 1C Entertainment highlighted one of King's Bounty 2's early starts, which sees the protagonist entering a conspirator’s house to investigate an assassination attempt. After dealing with a pack of nasty undead, the protagonist ends up uncovering some helpful evidence.

At this point, the player can choose between handing it over to either the Assassin’s Guild or the Captain of the City Guard. This choice changes “a lot of events in the game dramatically,” according to 1C Entertainment CEO Nikolay Baryshnikov, making certain quest lines available while stopping you from accessing others during that playthrough.

King's Bounty II - Preview In Nine Minutes

by Silver, 09:32

RPG Geeks previewed King's Bounty II in 9 minutes. The video is in Russian but you can auto-translate it to English. Gamewatcher has a preview writeup of the Demo they witnessed.

Life is hard for a noble knight! Either go and kill the dragon, then go to save the princess from captivity in the tower, and she during the captivity, take and grow some kind of dirty trick! And as a reward for you, brave hero, protector of the weak and patron of the innocent ... well, how lucky. Sometimes half a kingdom, sometimes a shish with butter, but today - another part from the venerable game series, which for the second time is transformed beyond recognition. What came of this, and whether such a creation will be to the taste of fans of virtual knightly novels - we will now find out!

The editorial staff of the RPG GEEKS channel attended the presentation of King's Bounty 2, which is preparing for release in March 2021, and we are in a hurry to share our impressions! Dismount from your horse, hide the sword in the sheath and do not forget to lift the visor, otherwise it will be inconvenient to watch the video!

[...]

King’s Bounty 2 will feature three hero classes, each having their own story. We got a look at the warrior, who’s able to field the largest armies but can only use magic through scrolls. On the flipside, warriors only have to worry about the main currency: Gold. The other currency – Mana – is a precious resource when you pick a spellcaster as your class.

Your class choice also affects the approaches you can take to completing quests. At one point in the demo, a pack of golems blocked the warrior’s way. Without access to magic, fighting them was the only option.

You bolster your armies by purchasing troops from vendors found across the world. The location you’re buying them from determines the available types.

King's Bounty II - First Developer Diary

by Myrthos, 15:18

The first developer diary for King's Bounty II has been made availabe in a video format.

Explore core elements of King's Bounty II in its first Developer Diary!

Branching narrative and open world exploration comes in the next installment of this popular RPG series!

Prague, Czech Republic -- February 4, 2020 -- 1C Entertainment is pulling back the veil behind the development of the upcoming fantasy strategy RPG King's Bounty II with a new series of developer diary videos. With a 2020 launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on the horizon, this is the first look at core changes coming  to the franchise that are sure to excite longtime fans and newcomers to the series.   The first in the multi-part series of dev diaries explores the 3 core aspects that form King's Bounty II's gameplay: exploration, hero management, and tactical combat.

This new entry in the series adds core RPG elements and a fully branching narrative adventure to the strategic combat King's Bounty is known for. The developer team say that players can expect roughly one third of the experience to be combat with exploration, puzzles, and new characters expanding greatly on the world introduced in past installments of this in the series.

The dev diary also explores the 4 main ideals Order, Power, Finesse, and Anarchy. Players can put talent points into each of these ideals, granting different bonuses and changing how characters in the world interact with your hero. Player's choices and quests throughout their journey shape who they are and what people think of them. A character's disposition will directly affect how they are perceived by people in the world of Antara, leading to different outcomes throughout the entirety of the game. A bandit, for example, will respond more favorably to a follower of Anarchy than someone who upholds Order.

King's Bounty II combat stays true to that of past games, however players can expect advancements to match modern tactics based encounters with some unique additions that are completely new to the series. Hex-based battles will play out across a 3 dimensional battlefield in the games open world setting, creating seamless transitions from exploration to combat and add purpose to placement in terrain. Army composition has also changed in King's Bounty II, with units limits encouraging players to change their army based on the task at hand.

Following dev diary episodes will provide more details on story, combat systems, and playable characters in King's Bounty II. For more information, head to the Steam store page or the official website KingsBounty2.com

RPGWatch @ Gamescom - King’s Bounty II Preview

by Myrthos, 11:38

I got to play King’s Bounty II for an hour or so at Gamescom and I found it to be different from its predecesors, but not always for the better.

With some anticipation I was going to spent some hands-on time with King's Bounty II at the 1C booth and it turned out to be an experience that didn't completely match my anticipation, but it was well worth the hour I spent on the game.
There is no escaping comparing King's Bounty II with its predecessor and from what I've learned while playing the game, King's Bounty II has several of the elements that its predecessor have, or at least the elements I've tried, but it changes the way how these elements come to you.

King's Bounty II - Preview

by Silver, 07:04

A game preview by GamePressure for King's Bounty 2

The most surprising thing for someone who spent some time with the first installment of the renewed series (and half their school years on various Heroes of Might & Magic games) is how hard it is to find bearings around this game. Our greatest enemy are not the powerful trolls or armed skeletons, but mostly the gameplay design. Although I do not generally approve of repetitiveness in video games, I found myself thinking that King's Bounty II could have been so cool if only the developers went along the line of least resistance. There is virtually no trace of transparency, which was usually the hallmark of other games of the genre. The turn-based battle mode is where this is most obvious – instead of a single figure representing the whole unit, we actually see the entire units, which results in the battlefield being pretty stuffed with units.
