Kristala - Interview
Game Rant interviewed producer Alexis Brutman about Kristala:
Interview: Kristala Dev Discusses Episodic Structure, Sekiro Inspirations, and Journey to Release
In an interview with Game Rant, Astral Clocktower Studios teased the Early Access date announcement for their Sekiro-like cat adventure Kristala.
Metalheads, cat lovers, and fans of punishing ARPGs should all keep a feline ear to the ground in May, as developer Astral Clockwork Studios will be announcing when players can get their hands on the upcoming Sekirolike Kristala.
Fighting against an enigmatic curse, bosses voiced by deathcore metal vocalists, and five other Raksakkars, players will engage in a less-than-peaceful pilgrimage to join the illustrious ranks of the Raksaka and unravel the mysteries of Ailur. Game Rant spoke to Astral Clocktower Studios’ founder and Kristala producer Alexis Brutman as the company prepares to announce an Early Access launch date. Brutman explained the game’s episodic structure, the vast world, and the language Astral Clocktower created for its game. The following interview has been edited for clarity and brevity.
Q: So... why cats?
Brutman: Well, there's a couple of reasons. I've two partners at Astral Clocktower, but when Tiffany [Gomez] and I originally started, it was just her and I. We were bouncing ideas off of what kind of each other about what kind of game we wanted to make: my idea was a soulslike kind of idea, her idea was a cutesy adventure game about a cat. So we thought, okay, that makes the most sense. Let's do that.
Then instead, we did a hybrid of the two games, and made a cat soulslike.
Part of the reason why we did that was because it allowed for more interesting mechanics. There's a million soulslikes out there, but only one where you can be a cat. And that gives us all sorts of verticality and traversal. It opened the door to some more interesting kinds of things you could do with your character.

BossLevel Gamer checked out the action RPG Kristala:
PAX East 2024 – Kristala is Dark Souls But With Cats
Cats and souls—what do they have in common? Correct. Cats do have souls. That isn’t where I’m going with this. I’m talking about a Cat soulslike called Kristala.
Kristala lets you play as a cat person, and yes, you can customize them. I stopped and played a demo at the Astral Clocktower Studios booth at PAX East. Not only did I play the game, but I spoke with Co-Owner and Marketing Director Sarah Schaffstall about the game. She fed me all kinds of juicy details. Let’s see what all this meowing is about.
MASTERING MAGIC AND UPGRADING EQUIPMENT ARE YOUR KEYS TO SUCCESS IN AILUR
In this dark fantasy RPG, you will be tasked with two main objectives. You’ll need to master all six of the different magics and lift the curse afflicting the world of Ailur. A magic shard crashed into the world and shattered into six pieces. Six clans each took over a piece of the shard and learned unique magic.[...]

Kristala - Preview @ Gamesradar
Gamesradar checked out the action RPG Kristala:
This dark fantasy action RPG is basically Dark Souls 4 except you play as a Khajiit from Skyrim
Kristala will be pouncing onto PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC
Ever since FromSoftware revolutionized action games with its Dark Souls series well over a decade ago, developers the world over have attempted to recreate its winning formula in a range of new and inventive ways. The latest game putting its own spin on it is Kristala, an indie soulslike with dark fantasy visuals and challenging combat that's straight out of Dark Souls, but here you play as a cat.
It's not as if the adorable tabby from Stray has been let loose in Lordran, though, as Kristala's kitties have a lot in common with hoomans. They wear clothing, walk on two feet, and know their way around a sword. Think the Khajiit from Skyrim, and you'll have a pretty good idea. There are six clans to choose from, each offering its own unique combat strengths and magic specialties.
"Uncover and upgrade a multitude of weapons, spells, armor sets, and additional items and strategically battle to restore peace to Ailur," reads the game's description on Steam. "Meet and interact with unique characters while exploring a mysterious fantasy planet that's overflowing with untold stories ripe for the unraveling."
