Lords of Discord - Funding Unsuccessful

by Couchpotato, 00:33

The Lords of Discord kickstarter failed to get funded and has a new update from the developers saying thank you and farewell.

Farewell.

Hi All,

So we have two pieces of news for you.

Firstly, it seems we didn't make it to our total. There are many reasons for that, we definitely made mistakes before and during campaign, and we are going to study those mistakes intently.

The second piece of better news, we are not going to lay down our tools just yet! We are considering a few options now:

1. Self-financing. It's not easy, as the project is quite expensive, but since we managed to reach this far with money from our own pockets we can try to do it again. It will definitely postpone the projected release dates, but we believe it’s better late than never.

2. External-financing. During the campaign we received a few offers from other companies and individuals willing to invest in the project. Negotiations may take time and both parties need to weigh all the pros and cons before moving forward. Each of us has different points of view about the future of the project: how it should look, what the core gameplay should be, should it be freemium or premium amongst other things. Of course sometimes the two parties can't can’t agree and have to part ways.

3. A new Kickstarter campaign. We don't know when that could happen or if it would happen at all but it’s something we are considering. We can try to improve the project, make it more appealing to the audience, better spread the word and build a community - things we didn’t focus on before that we can try now.

4. Steam, Early-access. While we we didn’t make it here on Kickstarter, we are doing quite well on Greenlight.

We've made it to the Top 100 projects and maybe we can participate in an “Early Access Program”. This allows you to buy the alpha/beta version of the game and help provide testing and feedback, and funds to finish the game. But it’s Steam who choose the projects for this program, not the fans, which provides a bit of uncertainty. So, that’s it.

We want to thank all who tried to make this project a reality and as good will gesture, we’d like to give out a few of our games for free. Backers can send their email address in a private message and in 1-2 weeks we will prepare a free game for you for PC or Android.

Best Regards,

Herocraft

Lords of Discord - Interview @ Strategy Informer

by Couchpotato, 00:22

Strategy Informer interviews Publishing Director Victor Zaletov about Lords of Discord.

Strategy Informer: How would you summarise Lords of Discord for those who haven’t heard of it?

Victor Zaletov: It’s a classic strategy set in a fantasy world. For the moment, it features two races – demons and humans – and turn-based battles similar perhaps to the ones you’d see in the Disciples series of games.

In general every game starts with the hero you choose, which could be a war lord, a scout or a mage. You begin in your undeveloped castle which maybe just has the castle wall and the barracks. Then you start to explore the map, which initially is covered in fog of war.

Strategy Informer: Would you say the first part of the game is much like a dash for resources and unit recruitment like in HoMM?

Victor Zaletov: Yes, it’s something like that. You need to be careful about choosing where to go, which neutral creatures to fight first and so on. For example; fighting more difficult mobs will provide greater benefits, but of course it’s easier to be killed by them and that would force you to have to start all over again.

You also need to grab territory, which you do with your terra-morphing units. These units convert the neutral land to your territory. Each player starts with their own territory and uses these units to convert neutral land into theirs. This will give you some kind of boost; we’re still experimenting with that but it will involve something like unit speed boosts and defence against enemy global spells.

We wanted to give the impression that it shouldn’t be so easy for you to move around on enemy territory. You can go there, but still the enemy player has some advantages against you. So you need to plan your moves carefully. In the same way, you can try to convert your enemy’s land to be yours. Or perhaps you can try to lure your enemy into a battle on your territory which would give you the advantage.

Strategy Informer: There’s a story-driven campaign in the game. Could you talk to us a little about that?

Victor Zaletov: We are really working hard to make a great single-player campaign. The game will begin with the 12 mission human campaign and we later plan on releasing the demon one.

Lords of Discord - A New Turn-Based SRPG

by Couchpotato, 00:24

Lords of Discord is a new kickstarter game looking to get funded. From my first look at the game it's similar to King's Bounty, and the Might and Magic strategy games.

Lords of Discord is a turn-based strategy game set in a fictional fantasy world, inhabited by two opposing races: Humans and Demons, as well as the odd goblin, orc, giant spider and other nefarious creatures. Lords of Discord has breathtaking gameplay, incredible graphics, hand drawn characters and a carefully detailed plot and in-game reality. Drawing inspiration from games like the Disciples and the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

Lords of Discord is a title made by strategy gamers, for strategy gamers.

Game features:

  • turn-based strategy gameplay
  • two playable races: Humans and Demons
  • two intertwined campaigns, 12 missions each
  • 3D world, gorgeous graphics and high quality animated characters
  • 3 types of landscape with terramorphing ability
  • 3 types of hero
  • system of character development with around 30 units in each race
  • dozens of global spells for each race
  • engaging battle system
  • a huge number of usable items such as artefacts, potions, wands, etc.
  • hot-seat, real-time and play-by-mail online multiplayer
