Marvel's Midnight Suns - Blood Storm DLC released

by Hiddenx, 12:22

The Blood Storm DLC for Marvel's Midnight Suns is now available:

Storm Arrives in Marvel’s Midnight Suns!

Add Storm to your roster with “Blood Storm”, the fourth DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns – available today!

Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, uses her mutant abilities to manipulate weather patterns at will. Add this seasoned leader of the X-Men to your Midnight Suns roster and use her climate-controlling powers to take on new story missions, plus a bonus finale for those who own and complete all the DLC missions included in the Marvel's Midnight Suns Season Pass.

Storm visits New York City in hopes of recruiting a new mutant to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but they've disappeared amidst the chaos of the recent vampyre scourge. Forming a search party with fellow X-Men allies Wolverine and Magik, Storm sets out to find them with the help of the Midnight Suns. But they've got some villainous competition in their pursuit: Sin, a Hydra mastermind and granddaughter of the infamous Red Skull, has nefarious plans for the missing mutant.

Weaponize the weather, electrify your enemies with lightning, and pummel them with gale-force winds as Storm. If you can rise to the challenge and successfully complete all story missions for Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm, a final showdown against an age-old monster of myth awaits you!

This content requires Marvel's Midnight Suns to play and is included in the Season Pass. Unlocking the bonus story mission requires that all Season Pass DLC be purchased and completed.

Features:

  • New Hero: Storm, a weather-wielding mutant with 10 unique Hero Abilities
  • New Story Missions: Fight a host of fresh enemy types across challenging new encounters, including a grand finale if all Season Pass missions are completed
  • New Abbey Upgrade: Enhanced T.H.R.E.A.T. Room
  • 3 Additional Hero Skins, 7 Abbey Outfits, and 2 Swimsuits for Storm

Marvel's Midnight Suns - The Good, The Bad, and The Undead DLC Review

by Hiddenx, 09:25

Worthplaying checked out The Good, The Bad, and The Undead DLC for Marvel's Midnight Suns:

PC Review - 'Marvel's Midnight Suns' The Good, The Bad, and The Undead DLC

Marvel's Midnight Suns was a welcome sign of relief among 2022's back half of high-profile games. Marvel remains a fan favorite, and no one will question Firaxis' pedigree with strategy games, but with titles like Gotham Knights ending up being such disappointments with players, it was good to see this game live up to the hype. The title has a season pass, and the $50 price tag gives one pause, since there are a number of times when the DLC doesn't live up to the heights of the base game. The Good, The Bad, and The Undead marks the first DLC of the season pass to hit the public, and it looks like the DLC is off to a good and interesting start.

Before you even get to the DLC, you'll need to make some significant progress through the main campaign. Without spoiling anything considering how new the game is, you'll have to get close to the halfway point and get to a milestone with a certain character before a side mission opens up that lets you meet the newest addition to the roster, Deadpool. The merc was hired by Doctor Doom to retrieve a valuable and powerful artifact, but he isn't alone. Sin, the granddaughter of Red Skull, is also on the hunt for this object, along with her army of vampyres.

[...]

Marvel's Midnight Suns: The Good, The Bad, and The Undead DLC might scare off people with its $15 price tag for one new character and three new missions. The price is steep, even if the new enemies and Deadpool pop up in other side missions. The content is good and fits well with the established mechanics without getting too chaotic, and it is a nice introduction to a new story arc. For now, despite the score, you should probably hold off on this unless you already have the Season Pass or you're a huge fan of the Merc with a Mouth.

Marvel's Midnight Suns - Review @ RPGFan

by Hiddenx, 16:03

RPGFan checked out the tactical RPG Marvel's Midnight Sun:

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

In the SRPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns, something wicked this way comes when the infamous, occult-obsessed Hydra resurrects the Mother of Demons, Lilith, beginning a world-ending prophecy. The only thing standing between Lilith’s hordes of nightmarish “children” and the return of an evil Elder God to the mortal realm is a motley assortment of heroes from around the globe, led by the resurrected Hunter, Lilith’s biological offspring. Can the disparate group learn to work together as a dedicated team to save reality as we know it, or is this dark fate preordained?

[...]

I recommend that you keep the game as updated as possible. I encountered several game crashes when I first started playing. A later update helped curb that issue, but I still had one significant crash during a story scene afterward. It especially made me nervous during the lengthy final mission segment as the game took away the option to save, though fortunately, I didn’t have any issues at that point. Hopefully, other patches will make those odd moments entirely things of the past.

Unfortunately, those glitches and the graphical hiccups lead me to curtail my overall review score. Honestly though? With how much fun I had playing this game and how enjoyable the overreaching plot is, I could’ve scored it higher if it were to overlook those issues. As it stands, I had a blast stepping into the role of the Hunter and getting to hang out and battle with a colorful assortment of Marvel heroes in a supernatural-tinged adventure. I’m already eagerly awaiting the future DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Sometimes, you do draw a winning hand!

Marvel's Midnight Suns - Review

The Review Geek checked out Marvel's Midnight Suns:

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Game Review – A surprisingly moreish tactical RPG

A surprisingly moreish tactical RPG

Marvel has had a rocky ride in 2022, with its current crop of movies under re-evaluation after Phase 4. Meanwhile, the TV shows have failed to break into the top 5 on the Nielsen ratings. The gaming side of things has been equally as rocky, with highs like Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man somewhat overshadowed by stinkers like Marvel’s The Avengers. Midnight Suns then is a surprising way to round out 2022, with an accessible and surprisingly addictive tactical role-playing game that’s certainly one of the better offerings this year.

Midnight Suns is far from perfect though. The title suffers from a lack of enemy variety, some repetitive mechanics and a social system that’s good in theory but undermines some of the characters as they act completely differently to their comic or movie counterparts. Thankfully, this is leagues ahead of Square Enix’s game and even if you only having a passing interest in Marvel, Midnight Suns is definitely worth checking out.

[...]

Overall Thoughts
Midnight Suns is very moreish and as an accessible tactical RPG, this one has a lot going for it. You can tell that developer Firaxis Games have put a lot of thought into this one, making sure the game strikes a balance between offering tactical battling with some depth and being easy enough for newcomers to jump in. For the most part, the game does get that system right but as I said before, enemy variety and some of the battle mechanics are a bit problematic.

Despite all these gripes though, Midnight Suns is definitely worth checking out. The game has a lot going for it and the story is actually pretty interesting across the board. There’s a lot of scope for the future with this one and with DLC promised for the future, including playable characters like Venom and Morbius (not to mention THAT teaser after the final battle!) this game may just be the brightest star in a dark Marvel sky this year.

Marvel's Midnight Suns - Review

by Hiddenx, 13:21

Cosmic Circus checked out Marvel's Midnight Suns:

Game Review: ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ – Great Story & Challenging

Game Review: ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ – Great Story & Challenging

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the latest game from the Marvel universe, developed by 2K and developed by Firaxis Games (XCOM 2) in cooperation with Marvel Games. The game faced a few delays after being announced in 2021, but now it’s finally here! So is Midnight Suns worth your time, and is it a true Marvel experience?

[Note: While I am reviewing this game independently and honestly, it should be noted that a copy has been provided to me by 2K for the purpose of this review. Warning: Light spoilers from Marvel’s Midnight Suns game are below!]

What is Marvel’s Midnight Suns?
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG that features many well-known characters from the Marvel universe, as well as Easter eggs to make the experience better. Based on the Rise of the Midnight Sons comic saga from the early 1990s, the new game tells the story of Marvel heroes teaming up to stop the true evil Lilith, as the old evil Doctor Faustus of Hydra has used dark magic to resurrect her.

Sensing imminent danger, Doctor Strange and Iron Man ask Johnny Blaze for help, but due to his age and the loss of everyone he ever cared about, he refuses. Meanwhile, Lilith’s dark magic is beginning to infect the world and the heroes must create a secret shield around the Sanctum Sanctorum as the last bastion to protect the realm.

Seeking more allies, their next destination is Magik’s Limbo. Here they meet the all-new Midnight Suns team, which includes Magik, Blade, Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider, and Nico Minoru/Sister Grimm. The heroes are also joined by Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.

[...]

The most important thing for gamers who don’t know much about the game is that there is no multiplayer in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, as well as no microtransactions to facilitate gameplay or speed up the player’s progress. The only microtransactions that exist are for premium skins for characters. Non-premium skins can be unlocked simply through the game’s main story and side missions.

To be honest, I didn’t have much hype for Marvel’s Midnight Suns before starting the game because it looked similar to the mechanics in Marvel’s mobile games. But I was so wrong. Although this game can be repetitive at times, it’s definitely worth giving it a chance, especially because of the storyline and unique characters.

Marvel's Midnight Suns - Review

by Hiddenx, 18:23

Digitaltrends checked out Marvel's Midnight Suns:

Marvel’s Midnight Suns review: Detailed superhero RPG goes the extra mile

Over the past 15 years, comic book fans have been lucky enough to see their favorite superheroes turn into household names thanks in no small part to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a selection of DC comics adaptations. Though when it comes to video games, only the biggest heroes like Spider-Man and Batman have gotten that same spotlight. That’s changing with Marvel’s Midnight Suns. It’s a strategy RPG that follows both iconic Avengers characters and more obscure supernatural ones as they take on Lilith, Mother of Demons. Players can walk around and mingle with the other heroes between missions, while its turn-based strategy gameplay stands out from Firaxis’ previous titles by putting the focus on card-based abilities.

[...]

But even at a time where Marvel is more popular than ever, Marvel’s Midnight Suns finds a way to stand out by going the extra mile. The boring level design and issues with Abbey exploration can dampen an otherwise fantastic experience, but my appreciation for these characters and the well-thought-out nature of the card-based combat encouraged me to play until the final hours.

As played out as Marvel is at this point, Firaxis didn’t just cash in with a Marvel skin for XCOM. It decided to make something unique and established a new superhero RPG formula that I hope isn’t a one-time thing.

Pros

  • Entertaining story
  • Deep friendship systems
  • Approachable, deep card combat
  • Optional open-world exploration

Cons

  • Stale combat arena design
  • Confusing objectives

Score: 4/5

Marvel's Midnight Suns - Delayed Again

by Silver, 23:05

PCGamesN reports that Marvel's Midnight Suns has been delayed into potentially the new fiscal year.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the prog rock-style supergroups, has been delayed, possibly into next year. Publisher 2K says the delay will keep the game in the current fiscal year, meaning the new Marvel’s Midnight Suns release date will be sometime before March 31, 2023

During its quarterly earnings call, 2K said it was pushing back the launch of Marvel’s Midnight Suns in order “to ensure the teams at Firaxis Games and 2K deliver the best possible experience for our fans.” 2K’s fiscal year ends on March 31, and the publisher says it expects the game to launch before then, but did not specify a new release date. Marvel's Midnight Suns - Card-Based Gameplay Revealed

by Redglyph, 12:10

Caroline Guevara, Jake Solomon and Garth Deangelis presented a gameplay showcase of Marvel's Midnight Suns, and in particular, the card-based combat.

The Hunter and Wolverine vs Sabretooth | Marvel's Midnight Suns Gameplay Showcase

It's time for the ferocious grudge match! The Hunter and Wolverine are teaming up against Sabretooth in our first ever gameplay stream of Marvel's Midnight Suns.

In one corner, we've got the Hunter and Wolverine fighting to save the world. Wolverine's razor-sharp claws, regenerating health, and ability to taunt enemies into focusing on him make him well-suited to fighting on the front line. Tilting the odds in Wolverine's favor on this occasion will be members of the Firaxis development team and the Hunter, Marvel's Midnight Suns' protagonist and the first customizable original hero in the Marvel Universe. The Hunter has a previous lifetime of training and experience to draw on and can fill a number of different combat roles by focusing on dealing damage, supporting allies, controlling enemies, mitigating incoming damage, or any combination thereof.

In the other corner is Wolverine's age-old nemesis Sabretooth, another mutant with a superpowered healing factor and the animalistic instincts and strength of a fearsome predator. Even in a two-on-one battle, Sabretooth should prove to be a fierce opponent.

Who will stand victorious?

Marvel's Midnight Suns was revealed with a cinematic trailer (embedded above) at Geoff Keighley's Gamescom show today, but gameplay isn't being revealed until next week. Yesterday, I pelted a 2K rep with questions, some of which were forwarded to Solomon, until a picture formed of a game that's as similar to Mass Effect 2 as it is XCOM, with a few surprising Stardew Valley touches. Here's what I learned:

Midnight Suns isn't a Marvel-skinned XCOM, but it is structured like an XCOM game. There's a base that can be upgraded, called The Abbey, from which you'll select missions out in the world. Before embarking on one of the turn-based combat missions, you'll choose three heroes from a cast of 12 Marvel troublemakers to come along. So far, ten of those heroes have been announced: Dr. Strange, Magik, Iron Man, Wolverine, Ghost Rider (the Robbie Reyes version), Blade, Captain America, Nico Minoru, and Captain Marvel.
