Monster Hunter: World - Over 20 Million Units Sold

by Redglyph, 11:26

Wccf Tech reports that Monster Hunter: World has sold more than 20 million units.

Monster Hunter World Has Shipped Over 20 Million Units

CAPCOM announced today that Monster Hunter World has now shipped over 20 million units globally (including Iceborne Master Edition) across all platforms. The Japanese publisher highlighted the successful long-tail sales of the game.

In recent years, Capcom's promotion of digital sales has enabled it to realize long-term, global sales for its major titles. With the January 2018 release of Monster Hunter World in particular, Capcom was able to propel the Monster Hunter series to global-brand status with a series-first worldwide simultaneous launch coupled with international promotional activities, establishing the game as Capcom's best-selling title of all time within a month of its release and being honored with awards the world over. In the more than three years since the game's release, in addition to promoting digital sales, Capcom also launched Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, a massive premium expansion for the game, as well as a bundle containing both titles, capitalizing on synergies with Iceborne and resulting in prolonged sales that led Monster Hunter World to achieve a Capcom all-time record of 20 million units shipped.

Monster Hunter: World - Review by Purpleblob

by Redglyph, 15:36

Purpleblob shares her impression on Monster Hunter: World, and since it's a Japanese game, she puts an emphasis on fashion.

Impression: Monster Hunter: World – Fashion hunting is the true end game

Alatreon, the fearsome black blazing dragon, ascended to the sky in front of Sheri’s eyes and unleashed its Escanton Judgement. Sheri fainted as flashes of blinding light filled her vision.

“Damn, I was too short on elemental damage”, she muttered as she stumbled back on her feet, safely back at the camp. If only she had chosen a weapon that dealt elemental damage more efficiently instead of her gorgeously decorated stick with a dragon ghost attached – but no, that would ruin her style – she would just have to learn to play better.

Welcome to Monster Hunter: World, the fashionista edition.

Monster Hunter: World (MHW) is an action roleplaying game by Japanese developer, Capcom, where the players take the role of a hunter to… well, hunt monsters. But it wasn’t the monster hunting which caught my attention – it was the outfit designs and home decoration aspect that got me obsessed with the game.

Monster Hunter: World - Iceborn Review @ RPG Site

by Hiddenx, 18:29

RPG Site has reviewed the DLC Monster Hunter: World - Iceborn:

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne PC Review

After a second extended period of patiently waiting, PC players are again ready to pick up their Great Swords, refill their Slingers, and prepare some Hot Drinks as they set off into the Hoarfrost Reach in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Iceborne is a massive expansion, one that we think very highly of, and it's no less true on PC. Chock full of new surprising environments, changing up how entire weapon sets feel to play, adding more mechanics and outright whole new systems such as a room decoration feature, there's no short-changing here of stuff to do.

Alongside the release of Iceborne on Steam is a free update for all PC players titled Update Ver. 10.12.00. Independent of the expansion, this is another in a long series of free updates and tweaks that Monster Hunter: World has received since its PC debut in August 2018. World has been through a bit of a wringer on PC over the last year-plus. While the original PC release was generally competent though marred by connection problems, Capcom has put no shortage of effort in supporting the release with features such as adding Ultrawide and HDR support, supporting technologies like DLSS, and even an optional High-Resolution Texture pack in exchange for a hefty chunk of hard drive space.

It is, in a way, disappointing that all of that is overshadowed by another tardy release where the playerbase has to again operate on two separate schedules.

[...]

All told, Monster Hunter World's PC offering is in a much better place than it was initially, and even then it was never a slouch. There's a lot of credit to be given to all of the support that the title has received over the last year and a half, but also a lot of headache that comes with the staggered release. In a burgeoning era of cross-platform play, having a delayed release here feels a bit out of time. With that considered however, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a game that's easy to recommend without hesitation. Those that have yet to dip their toes into Monster Hunter at all have perhaps the most to look forward to, with a polished and updated total package alongside with new stuff still inbound over the next few months. I know I'm eagerly anticipating what's next.

Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne and Witcher Crossover

by Silver, 21:15

Bluesnews reports that Monster Hunter World expansion Iceborne is coming autumn 2019 and that there is a Witcher crossover planned for early next year.

Capcom announces Iceborne will be the first expansion for Monster Hunter World, saying this currently slated for console release in autumn 2019 and that future announcements will cover plans for a PC release. They offer this trailer to celebrate the news, and though this is Japanese, it includes no dialogue to translate. They also announce plans for a collaboration with CD Projekt RED to bring Geralt from The Witcher series to the game, this trailer illustrates that news, and this offers English voiceovers. Details on this are scant, but they say it is expected early next year. Here's the announcement:

Monster Hunter: World - Review @ RPG Site

by Hiddenx, 19:39

RPG Site checked out the PC version of Monster Hunter: World:

Monster Hunter: World PC Review

Earlier this year Monster Hunter: World hit the PS4 and Xbox One to mass acclaim from critics and fans alike, becoming the highest selling game in Capcom's 40+ year run in the games industry. A PC version was promised from the start, but it didn't materialize into something you could actually play until today.

We reviewed Monster Hunter: World back when the console version launched, all of the game's various systems and gameplay mechanics are already broken down there so it's advised to read that review first. For the PC focused review, we are just looking at the quality of the PC port, so let's take a look at what's under the hood.

[...]

Monster Hunter: World is a staggeringly interesting game, with a breadth of content and plenty complex mechanical options, it's a perfect fit for the PC gaming enthusiasts that like like to lose themselves in a game for months at a time. The port may have come a good tick after the console versions, but the wait was largely worth it. While the slight performance issues and crashing are a disappointment, Capcom has already committed to fixing these problems. If you have been eagerly awaiting this version of the game, don't let some slight technical issues hold yold back from picking it up.

Monster Hunter: World - Why People like it

by Hiddenx, 09:23

PC Gamer knows the answer to the question "Why do people like the Monster Hunter series?":

Why people love Monster Hunter so damn much

A beginner's primer to Capcom's beloved series.

There's a good chance that Monster Hunter's popularity and fandom has blindsided you. Unless you're entrenched in Japanese pop culture or a huge fan of handhelds like Nintendo's 3DS, Monster Hunter might seem like an obscure series made even more confusing by people wrongfully comparing it to Dark Souls (something I'm ashamed to be guilty of). But with Monster Hunter: World now out on consoles and arriving on PC this fall, the series has stepped out of its relative niche to become one of the most popular games in the West right now.

So what's the big deal? You fight giant dinosaurs with ridiculously large weapons—is that really what has people so excited? Not even close. There's so much more to Monster Hunter than meets the eye. If you're new to the series and wondering if Monster Hunter: World is for you, this primer will walk you through the basics, helping you understand why this game has a fanbase that easily rivals videogame greats like Pokémon—definitely not in size, but in passion and loyalty.

[...]

It's that unique cycle of preparation, execution, and reward that makes Monster Hunter such a fun, compelling experience that inspires players to sink hundreds of hours into each game. Similar to Pokémon, Monster Hunter has a time-tested formula for fun but keeps things fresh by adding new monsters and worlds to explore with each new game. There's so much depth to each system that mastering every weapon and crafting every set could keep you playing for months. What's better, recent Monster Hunter releases have all benefited from a constant string of post-launch DLC that's free, adding new monsters, challenges, and fun crossover armor styles from other games.

Monster Hunter: World - Review

by Hiddenx, 20:33

The Den of Geek checked out the action RPG Monster Hunter: World:

Monster Hunter: World Review

Monster Hunter: World is the most polished installment in the franchise and lots of fun to play, too.

The backbone of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series - a sweet and simple gameplay loop that sees players hunt ferocious monsters and then improve their gear and skills before questing after bigger, badder monsters - remains as sturdy and addictive as ever in Monster Hunter: World. It’s the grandest, most inclusive installment in the series yet, with lush, sprawling environments teeming with creatures that are equal parts eye-catching and terrifying. Longtime fans will feel right at home, and newcomers will find a deep but accessible action RPG to sink their teeth into.

What’s immediately striking about World is its colorful menagerie of monsters, each more imaginatively designed than the last. There are Anjanath, which ostensibly appear to be run-of-the-mill T-Rex but boast furry, spiky tails and accentuated bird-like features. The toxic, tongue-waggling Pukei-Pukei look like frog/lizard hybrids with feathers, and the pachydermatous Barroth bulldoze through everything in their path with tumorous, rock-like crowns. Coming face to face with these fantastical creatures is one of the game’s greatest joys, but things only get better after that initial moment of awe.
