Shadow of the Eternals - Development Update

by Couchpotato, 01:24

Precursor Games has an new update for Shadow of the Eternals with news the game is not cancelled after the three crowd-funding attempts.

Firstly, we wish to thank everyone for their on-going support and presence on the forums and our Facebook page and to the guys running the Order 333 podcast. It’s been inspiring and an extremely positive influence during our break away from the project.

Aaron, Denis and I have slowly begun coming out of slumber and the wheels are starting to turn again. We should be around more on the forums in the near future and hope to be able to interact more with you all.

We’ll be continuing to upgrade and keep the forums running and we’re taking a look at where the SOTE project is at, potential options and directions for the future as well as going over lessons learned from the campaigns.

We very much intend to keep the project alive and get back to production but please understand that there probably won’t be any major news or update for a while yet. We’ve got a lot of work ahead to understand the options available to us going forward and to do the best thing by the game.

So please, continue to frequent and post in the forums. We’d encourage more participation again within the Order of the Unseen such as creature designs, ideas for the game and lore.

We believe we have a powerful story to tell, we believe that the game deserves to be played by you all and whilst it may take some time to get all our ducks lined-up, know that we’re still here and SOTE and rumors of SOTE’s death are greatly exaggerated.

Shadow of the Eternals - Game Put on Hold

by Couchpotato, 00:58

Precursor Games announces that development of Shadow of the Eternals project is now on hold. This comes after the unsuccessful kickstarter and the promise to find another way to get the game out

It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to put the Shadow of the Eternals project on hold. We are very happy with what we have accomplished both as a group and with the community. The community has blown us away and was the one thing that kept us going through it all - we cannot thank you enough.

Many of us will be taking a break. For those who are not aware, we all worked on this project as a labor of love and self financed 100% of everything for a over a year to try to make Shadow of the Eternals a reality. Although we did not succeed on doing this, we succeeded in making many friends and starting something that we hope provided value for those involved. We have no regrets.

Denis, Phil and Aaron have decided to continue to run the forums for those who wish to stay hang out and talk. Denis, Phil and Aaron will also be taking a break but will be around posting and talking with everyone when they can. Others from Precursor will also be popping in from time to time.

Is the project dead? No, but we feel it needs a rest too. We have all agreed as a group that when and if the time is right we will get together and start it up again.

Keep your head high everyone and remember what we have accomplished together.

Shadow of the Eternals - Kickstarter Unsuccessful

by Couchpotato, 00:32

It should come as no surprise that Precursor Games kickstarter Shadow of the Eternals was unsuccessful. Here is the update with more informaion.

After we take a one week break, we will be upgrading the forum software to help improve the experience of our community. The Order forums will remain open for all those who have pledged on the Kickstarter for the next few weeks.

It is unfortunate that we were unable to crowd-fund this project at this time, but we have not given up. We intend to pursue other avenues with the ultimate goal of having our games come to fruition.

Shadow of the Eternals - Preview @ Leviathyn

by Couchpotato, 00:36

Leviathyn has a preview of Shadow of the Eternals that tries to convince everyone to help the troubled kickstarter.

The game is currently on Kickstarter and is taking a fascinating approach in offering incentives to those who are willing to back the project with their hard-earned money. Instead of merely offering the standard fare of t-shirts and game copies (which you can also get), a minimum $5 pledge will admit you into The Order of the Unseen, a community supporting the game and actively taking part in its development process.

No, backers won’t be responsible for writing lines of code or rendering images, but they are able to contribute their ideas with the fair possibility of said ideas being implemented in the game’s finished product. Have an idea for a sanity event? Enemy? Story beat? Share it with the Order, and there’s a good chance you’ll see it in the game.

Community engagement in this fashion is but one of the many reasons the game has sparked some interest in the online community. There have been many game companies in the past that have engaged with fans during the development of their titles, but few have gone much further than limited contests and online polls in allowing fans to take part in the development process. Dyack himself said in an interview with us that he wanted to do something unique with the game and the passionate community of both Eternal Darkness and Lovecraft fans, and felt that offering engagement as a backing incentive was the best way to go. It’s already proven to be a successful experiment, as the forums are teeming with ideas and bringing in talented creators to be a part of the idea vetting process.

Shadow of the Eternals - News Roundup

by Couchpotato, 01:28

Leviathyn has a new podcast with Denis Dyack were he explains why Shadow of the Eternals should be on your radar.

Polarizing or not, Denis Dyack is a man who has crafted many wondrous things; we’re talking about the man who brought you Eternal Darkness and the ever impressive Legacy of Kain series, to name a few. For one reason or another, the internet has taken a blind-focus on the man’s past and with that somehow have overlooked his new project at hand, Shadow of the Eternals. To shed more light on the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, Mr. Dyack sits down with us and discusses his future plans, the meaning of working directly with Precursor Games’ fans and why he needs your help this time around.

Next Precursor Games has released a new video showcasing Shadow of the Eternals’“Sanity System.”

If any of these newsbits make you interested you can also look at their kickstarter which is in need of help.

Shadow of the Eternals - Interview @ Boot Hammer

by Couchpotato, 00:19

Boot Hammer interviewed Denis Dyack the Chief Creative Officer of Precursor Games to talk about Shadow of the Eternals.

You mention the campaign will span over a thousand years of history. Without giving away too much, could you give us a few details on where Detective Paul Becker will find himself throughout the game?

“Paul Becker is a Louisiana police detective, who is investigating a massacre at Pleasant View Hospital. This massacre is survived by two individuals whom Becker interrogates throughout the game. Becker will spend most of his time in Louisiana, and the interrogations will tell the story of Klára Rusznyák and Erzsébet Báthory, which takes place in 1610 AD Hungary. Although the game spans over thousands of years, Paul Becker is very much the main protagonist of the game, and the focal character, because his fate is somehow linked to these two survivors and their stories.”

Lastly, what does this sequel bring to the table that Shadow of the Eternals did not? It’s hard to improve on that epic title but I’m sure you guys are going all out on this psychological horror successor.

“Shadow of the Eternals incorporates the pillar of community created content. We have carved out specific areas in which we have made opportunities for our fans to help shape the game. For example, members of our community are contributing Elder God designs, as well as enemy creature designs. We also have things such as sanity event creation forums. We invite everyone who is interested in Shadow of the Eternals or game design in general to join our forums, known as the Order of the Unseen, and see what creative initiatives are taking place in the community.”

Shadow of the Eternals - Now on Kickstarter Also

by Couchpotato, 00:24

A Kickstarter campaign is now live for Shadow of the Eternals in addition to the campaign being run directly on the games website.

It was reported that the game was not using Kickstarter because developer Precursor Games is based in Canada. That has now changed. So just to recap here is what the game is all about:

Darkness Has Returned

When Detective Paul Becker is called to one of the bloodiest gang massacres in Louisiana state history, only two survivors remain from a brutal conflict between two rival cults. As Becker begins his interrogations of the suspects, their combined recollections will uncover the truth about the ‘Eternals’.

Shadow of the Eternals is a psychological horror game made by the creators of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Reqiuem, a spiritual successor to the cult classic. Featuring an ensemble cast of heroes and villains, Shadow of the Eternals will span over 2500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States. Players will question the perception of reality as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and sanity events to progress through the adventure.

Shadow of the Eternals will take players on a memorable journey throughout time; weaving historical fact with disturbing fiction to create an experience unlike any other
