Terra Memoria - Review

by Hiddenx, 12:17

Ladies Gamers checked out Terra Memoria:

Terra Memoria Review

Terra Memoria is that increasingly rare game that some of us still crave, a fantasy pixel-turn-based RPG. Developed by French developers La Moutarde, it offers a deeply thought-out, unique fantasy world inhabited by a mix of anthropomorphic animal folk and the rare humanoid, all of whom seek ‘constancy’ in their lives. But that constancy is under attack from forces both mundane and deadly, and your haphazard team of cuties must venture out into the world to see if they can knock some sense back into it all. On the way, there’s light collecting, crafting, and building elements to fuss with.

It’s a game I desperately want to like, so let’s see if it succeeds!

The World of Terra Memoria
Constancy isn’t just a word in Terra Memoria, much less a struggle for anyone with ADHD. It’s the core tenet of a secular faith that doesn’t look to gods so much as it does the concept of a world where things behave in a way that you can rely on. It’s not the only faith in the world; the foxes have their own spirit realm, and you’ll get to explore that, too. But mostly, it’s about reliability, and the world has precious little of that going on as the game starts.

[...]

All of that said, I came in wanting to like Terra Memoria, and in the end, I still mostly do. It’s chunky, yes, and the tone is sometimes a little off – maybe it’s the South Park exhaustion, but a subplot about ‘they took our jobs’ didn’t hit quite the right note for me when it was introduced – but its charm really is undeniable. The game is just too bright, breezy, and pretty to stay cranky, and its flaws can be soothed by taking breaks and coming back to it when you’re ready.

The world building is also something that the developers put a lot of care into, and that’s also a delightful surprise. I’d be thrilled to revisit these characters and their quirky, magitek-laden world again in the future. It’s an indie delight, through and through, and I’m happy to say that, yup, it gets the green.

Final Verdict: I Like It

Terra Memoria - Review

by Hiddenx, 18:21

ESTNN reviewed the Adventure-RPG Terra Memoria:

Terra Memoria Review – a Delightful Turn-Based Adventure

Here’s a complete review of Terra Memoria, the new indie RPG game by La Moutarde.

Those of us who grew up with the SNES or the Original PlayStation have experienced our fair share of golden-era adventure RPGs during childhood. And while the genre has evolved a lot over the years, there’s just something about the classics like Grandia or Breath of Fire that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Naturally, when we saw a game like Terra Memoria, we had to try it out. Developed by an indie studio called La Moutarde, this adventure RPG borrows plenty of inspiration from the classics while adding some modern twists of its own.

Terra Memoria is out now on all platforms, but if you’re still on the fence about it, maybe our hands-on review will help you decide whether the game deserves a spot on your digital library. Let’s get started!

The art style in Terra Memoria is breathtakingly beautiful. The moment you start it up, it’s clear that it draws inspiration from Octopath Traveler with its blend of Pixel and 3D art style. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

As you move from one region to the next, the world feels truly alive, with plenty of NPCs doing their own things. The lush landscape of regions like the Southfield or Mirevale Forest offers an immersive experience unlike any that we’ve seen in recent years.

Terra Memoria - Preview @ RPS

by Hiddenx, 21:16

Rock Paper Shotgun checked out the adventure RPG Terra Memoria:

Terra Memoria is a cheerful party-based RPG with a touch of Grandia

A time-travelling tale for old timers

In the event that I walk in front of a particle accelerator, get converted into digital data and am promptly isekai-ed into a gameworld, I hope that gameworld is the opening port town from the original Grandia, released on PS1 way back in 1997 (and ported to PC in 2019). There's something about that game's isometricky vantage point and precise combination of 2D pixel characters and 3D environments. The last sentence describes many virtual worlds of the late 90s, but none have stuck in my mind like Port Parm: that hodgepodge of green and rusty roofs, the canals cutting through the cobblestones, the smoky chimneys and people filling the alleyways. Bliss. I can still hear the seagulls blowing around the screen.

Oh sorry, I rhetorically lost myself for a minute there! I'm supposed to be telling you about Terra Memoria, a new RPG featuring time travel, magic crystals and animal wizards. Here's a trailer.
