The Blood of Dawnwalker - Freedom of Choice

by Hiddenx, 22:11

GamingBolt reports that The Blood of Dawnwalker features choices with consequences:

The Blood of Dawnwalker Will Focus on Player Agency and Freedom of Choice – Creative Director

The Blood of Dawnwalker's developers want to focus on giving players as much freedom as possible while still featuring a rich narrative.

The creative director behind upcoming open world RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, has revealed that the upcoming game will be designed around the concept of player agency and freedom of choice. Speaking in a recent issue of PCGamer Magazine (via GamesRadar), Tomaszkiewicz spoke about the idea of the “narrative sandbox” of The Blood of Dawnwalker.

“It’s how we allow you, the player, to interact with it,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “So the core of it is maximizing players’ agency and freedom of choice, while, at the same time delivering the high-quality narratives that we are known for crafting in the past.”

This means that players will have plenty of choices not only on the game’s narrative, but also in gameplay terms as well. Players will be allowed to explore the world freely while also getting to make important choices throughout their time questing in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The Blood of Dawnwalker - Preview

by Hiddenx, 18:09

The Nerd Stash checked out The Blood of Dawnwalker:

The Blood of Dawnwalker Is Aiming for New Heights of Narrative Immersion, and I’m Optimistic

‘Both action and inaction have serious consequences.’

For some time now, we haven’t had a good vampire game to sink our teeth into (pun intended), which is both strange and disappointing. So, when Rebel Wolves revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker, I was intrigued, interest piqued. And I wasn’t the only one. The slick cinematic trailer gave a tantalising glimpse of a dark, brutal medieval world plagued by vampires. What’s not to like? But when I learned a little more about how narratively ambitious Rebel Wolves is being with their debut game, I became truly excited.

Fangs Very Much
Vampirism and the vampire underworld seem ready-made for video games. Vampires are a complicated, flawed race, often persecuted by humanity. They have the sort of super strength and supernatural abilities that make perfect gameplay features. And they feed on unfortunate victims (read: NPCs) to regain strength, which is a perfect healing mechanic. And yet true vampire games are mysteriously few and far between. 2018’s ambitious but flawed Vampyr is one of the more “recent” examples that springs to mind.

The Blood of Dawnwalker - Dynamic World

by Hiddenx, 18:55

Wccftech reports that action and inaction have consequences in The Blood of Dawnwalker:

Dawnwalker Will Have Serious Consequences for Both Action and Inaction, Says Dev

It's been less than a month since Rebel Wolves unveiled their debut open world RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. The Polish developer, founded by former CD Projekt RED employees, is betting heavily on a dynamic world that also uses a time limit (the main character has only 30 days and nights to save his family) to fuel a greater sense of urgency. In an interview that appeared in PC Gamer's March 2025 magazine (issue 406), Rebel Wolves delved deeper into this design concept.

Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz (Creative Director): Dawnwalker is not going to be a game where it’s a pure sandbox, where you’re just focusing on the gameplay. We do want you to experience these moments with the world of the characters and the emotions that these situations can evoke, and so on and so forth. But, at the same time, you are looking for ways of maximising freedom as you do.

Daniel Sadowski (Design Director): In our game, we want the world to be dynamic. We don’t want it to be static, like waiting for the player all the time. So, both action and inaction in Dawnwalker have serious consequences, and that’s also how we structured the quests, so that it can all be showcased while you play the game.

The Blood of Dawnwalker - Interview

by Hiddenx, 10:20

PC Gamer interviewed Konrad Tomaszkiewicz about The Blood of Dawnwalker:

The Witcher 3's director explains why he had to leave CDPR to make his dream vampire RPG: 'We had crazy ideas'

The leader of Rebel Wolves speaks

For PC Gamer magazine's upcoming The Blood of Dawnwalker issue, I flew out to Warsaw to visit developer Rebel Wolves and speak to a number of its key devs, including founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz: Best-known for being the director of The Witcher 3, one of gaming's greatest ever fantasy RPG experiences.

Tomaszkiewicz also worked as a co-director on Cyberpunk 2077 before leaving CDPR. The obvious question is why an established and proven director would feel the need to move on from somewhere they'd helped to such success.“I set up Rebel Wolves because I felt that I wanted to make something that is unique with my friends,” says Tomaszkiewicz. “Of course, we have a huge love of RPG games, and what has been done before in the past. [But] I feel that those things, those rules of RPG games, can be expanded and evolved. We had crazy ideas. We knew that, you know, if we wanted to make them, we needed to open our own studio, because it would be hard to convince any big company - you know, with non-IP - to change, and do something new, and do something crazy. Actually, it’s risky, because we’re doing some solutions which are new.

"And the second thing is that we have a studio where we work with the people, and among them, not like at the bigger studios where it’s harder. I felt that a smaller team is capable of doing more, because the communication inside the team, and it’s easier to speak about the vision. It’s easier to feel the creative fire, and to do something special.”
