A kingdom once thriving on the power of alchemy enters an age of calamity. After discovering the price behind alchemy, an attempt to stop the use of it backfired. Within a few days, the kingdom was in chaos and the streets infested with monsters.

The key to understanding all of this is in Corvus’ hands, but he has lost his memory. The truth can only be found within his memories, but every time he dives back in, he only finds more secrets.

Review: Thymesia

Something something imitation is this and that — I’m sure you know how that fabled saying goes. And perhaps there’s a likely market — one with a sufficiently-sized community at its heart — to explain why we’re bound to see year after year of these kinds of games release, regardless of scale, style and most importantly, lasting substance. At a time where the very studio responsible for bringing us this template have gone and altered (maybe improved, if such is your view) said premise all over again. Love it or loathe it, the Soulslike sub-genre is here to stay. Yet for every platformer or RPG with a desolate attire, translucent form of narrative and emphasis on getting one-over that annoying road-block that’s put you down a dozen attempts prior, there will always be that burning question in the back of your mind: “OK, but what else is there?”

Closing Comments:

Even with these blemishes and moments where the admiration for what’s come before gets in the way of basic consistency and much-needed fluidity, OverBorder Studio have at least landed in a much better position with a foundation that’s challenging and entertainingly so. Indeed, Thymesia has no qualms with letting its inspirations show in blunt fashion, to the point OverBorder’s creation for a time feels like it’s all too worryingly becoming less its own unique take and more a greatest-hits compilation ready to implode in on itself at any moment. It would be easy to dismiss Thymesia as exactly this: references and call-backs but with none of the unifying vision — a slap-dash repackaging of the Souls series’ high’s in an attempt to see what sticks.
But perhaps the biggest surprise coming away is that against all odds this synergy of a literal decade-plus of ideas somehow manages to be as compelling as it is. And while Souls series veterans will get the most out of recognizing and respecting the impossibility of OverBorder’s approach here, Thymesia above all else still asks new, fresh and strategically-minded questions as to how to tackle the eventual onslaught. A rarity among this overly-saturated market. But it’s that small yet critical tweak to the formula, despite its familiarly-decrepit backdrop and far-from-grandiose stature alike that makes Thymesia one of the more memorable and mechanically-satisfying Soulslike’s of the bunch.

Thymesia is a gruelling action-RPG with fast-paced combat and an intricate plague weapon system. In a kingdom where death spreads, players will assume the role of a mysterious character known by the code name “Corvus”. Players will prey upon their enemies, wield the power of disease and find the truth in their own memories.

Thymesia – A Bloodborne-Like Action RPG Coming Next Year (2022)

Thymesia is a Soulslike Action RPG that gives the player the freedom to execute multiple, swift attacks against brutal enemies, much like in Bloodborne. You won’t be able to block attacks either so you’ll instead survive by dodging and parrying heavy attacks. However, the game differentiates itself in terms of how chaotic encounters feel, which is reminiscent of the Devil May Cry franchise.

RPG Site reports that Thymesia has been delayed. Their publisher Team 17 released a trailer announcing 2022.

'Punishing Action RPG' Thymesia delayed to 2022

Publisher Team17 and developer OverBorder Studio have announced that Thymesia has been delayed to 2022. The 'punishing action RPG' was originally set to release for PC (Steam) on December 7. In a delay announcement, found below, the development team simply states more time is needed for finishing touches.

Alongside the delay announcement however, Team17 announced that Thymesia will also launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to its PC version.

Thymesia is set in a world ravaged by plague and places players in the shoes of Corvus, a mysterious character with the ability to wield diseases as weapons. Combat is done in real-time with emphasis on parries and dodges, where Corvus can also transform into a raven mid-battle. More information can be found in the announcement from March 2021.

Winter release date revealed for Bloodborne-esque Thymesia

An alchemical bloodbath.

Earlier this year, publisher Team17 and developer OverBorder Studio revealed their upcoming project, Thymesia, to the public. The gameplay shown up to this point invited plenty of comparisons to the renowned Dark Souls games, as well as Bloodborne, but it set itself apart thanks to its faster, flashier combat. Although it wears its inspirations on its sleeve, Thymesia looks like a solid, well-realized game in its own right. Both fans of Bloodborne and those who have never touched a Souls game before may find this one interesting. Thankfully, both Team17 and OverBorder Studio unveiled a December 7 release date for Thymesia, so players can get their hands on the game fairly soon.
