Wave of Darkness - Reviews

by Myrthos, 12:15

Here are two reviews for Wave of Darkness.

Gamewatcher, 5/10

Wave of Darkness tries to separate itself from other games on the market by trying to do everything one might want to see in an RPG: deep item and spell crafting, open-world environments, tough encounters. All of these things are fine goals, but they're all done better elsewhere. It feels like Dreamatrix is iterating towards their vision of an engaging open-world RPG, but the game is nowhere near a place where I can recommend. Given time and some serious patching Wave of Darkness may warrant another look.

And a more positive one at Universal Gaming:

Overall, Wave of Darkness has come quite a long way since Our preview article and I dare say that it’s quite a bit of fun to play now. It’s still not the best looking RPG that I’ve ever played and the voice acting can be a bit spotty but if you can get past these issues you’ll find a feature rich and very well made game that’s continually updated with improvements. Worth checking out if you’re looking for a new RPG to play.

EchoTruMe has a somewhat positive video review as well, of which the following is a summary:

First things first, this is a pretty solid game. 70+ hours of good, above-average RPG gameplay is nothing to scoff at. The graphics are not going to blow you away and neither is the music. However, the game does have pretty good looking load screens and the intro is pretty awesome, frankly. As for the game itself, this one certainly has more fighting and action than the last RPG I covered The Age Of Decadence. The crafting system is actually pretty manageable and can yield some pretty cool items, potions, etc. There is a lot to do, as there appear to be TONS of NPC's to interact with, side quests to engage in and a lot more going on than just the main story. However, all that being said....nothing really stands out to me about this one. It is fun, it has a huge world with tons to explore and there really are a lot of possibilities....it's just not really sucking my in story-wise so far. I find myself plowing through without being very drawn into the game at all. It could be a personal preference though. I'd say it's worth about $20 and sits at a solid 3/5. Give it a try if you love RPG's.

Wave of Darkness - Released

by Hiddenx, 22:20

Dreamatrix released Wave of Darkness on Steam today:

Wave of Darkness invites you to a huge dark and gritty fantasy world which can be explored the way you want and whenever you want. Tired of killing monsters and solving quests on the east? You can go north and explore the region of Klesabia, Macabon or Ealonia, slay northern monsters ... generally do whatever you desire.

Wave of Darkness is not your average casual action RPG. It is tailored for fans of hardcore old-school RPG titles, offering massive dark and gritty fantasy world which will challenge you at every step. The world of Narr is corrupted by the Dark Magic, and you will have to do your best to free land from this malicious deviance.

While most RPG titles offer very limited area for you to explore, restricting it by invisible walls, or simply with various design solutions, Wave of Darkness enables you to wander everywhere, and whenever you wish to do so. Of course, you can follow the strict path of the plot, and complete quests until you finish the game, or you can explore every bit and corner of Narr, meet various NPCs, complete side quests for them, and fight dangerous monsters. WOD offers 70+ hours of gameplay.

So you decided to start the game by creating a sword wielding character, but after a while you realize swords aren't really your thing. Wave of Darkness enables you to combine and experiment different character classes, which means you can have a powerful melee/ranged or ranged/magic character, even if you made a mistake by choosing a character class that doesn't fit your RPG affinities, without the need to start the game all over again. WoD enables you to combine, explore and experiment with character classes however you want, without limitations. But it's still recommended to keep in mind the basics of RPG, so try to create solid and meaningful characters because the game will definitely challenge you.

And guess who did the narrator for the tutorial? - good ol' crpgnut!

Wave of Darkness - Release Date: November 5

by Hiddenx, 06:58

Wave of Darkness will be released on November 5:

The new, HUGE Wave of Darkness update is LIVE + Release date!

Hi everyone!

Well, after four months of hard work and battles with all kind of murky villains during Early Access, we are proud to announce that Wave of Darkness is getting ready for the full release at 5th of November 2015!

During the Wave of Darkness Early Access, we have been astonished by the amount of good and positive vibrations among the community who wanted to help with great ideas, bug reports and, naturally, constructive criticism.

Majority of your suggestions, bug reports and some criticism resulted in five major patches and several smaller patches which helped Wave of Darkness to become a more stable, more robust, and ultimately a better RPG title. All in all, during Early Access development stage we have applied over 70 game fixes and over 15 new features; some bigger, some smaller.

  • added intro video
  • added bunch of tooltips for character generation panels, character info panel, inventory, spellbook, maps panel, legendary items panel and quest log panel
  • minimum number of inventory slots increased from 14 to 42 (see, we do listen to your suggestions ;-)
  • added voiceover files for:[...]
  • fixed bug with game crashing on alt+tab while in character generator or main menu
  • fixed/changed/updated tons of NPC conversation texts (mostly changes regarding grammar, and some slight changes regarding quest objectives)
  • fixed item generation bug when creating new characters (one where it was possible to get items such as weapons and armor with too high requirements, you were able to de-equip those items but were unable to equip them again)
  • fixed 'Smash and Run' quest description in quest log panel
  • fixed 'Dark Sisters' quest description in quest log panel
  • fixed Lord Zetar script (one block of text was missing due to the bug in the script)
  • fixed voiceover replay bug
  • fixed material tile for danian temples that had incorrect texture (materials\lod\temple\danian_a\danian_temple_cc.dds)
  • fixed material (materials\lod\miscellaneous\grave\dirt_grave.material) with wrong texture
  • fixed material (materials\lod\foliage\replace\cat.material) with missing texture
  • fixed bug in the maps panel where merchants had empty tooltip
  • fixed bug in the maps panel where game sometimes crashed when you ran it on your bosses computer with Windows 10 OS

[...]

Getting released is NOT "that's it folks, we are done here"

The release for us simply means that we are now declaring Wave of Darkness a complete rounded product. It isn’t perfect, with every patch released our wish list grows even further. As more and more gamers join our community, we are sure that there will be an abundance of great new suggestions (and hopefully a very few bug reports) which will ensure continued post release development for a long and exciting time.

You will continue to receive updates with the same frequency as during the Early Access development stage, we will continue talking with you on Kickstarter and Steam discussion boards, and we will continue listening to your ideas and suggestions.

What are the next steps?

With the full Wave of Darkness release getting closer by the day, we have another big promise to keep; we have to start working on physical rewards for our Kickstarter backers.

We would also like to expand the Wave of Darkness community as much as possible. As you most probably know, for an indie developer without the marketing budget it is quite challenging to break through to relevant media.
Most of the gaming web pages so far told us they will wait for the final release as they (usually) do not review titles in Early Access. Also, many gamers tend to avoid Early Access titles, and even if they don’t, our visibility on the Steam is pretty low right now.

Not only that, but being too long in Early Access can be counterproductive: Some titles on Steam are for "eons" in Early Access, but we don't want that. We have rounded up all the features we want in the game and integrated them.

We invite you to join our efforts once again, at the most important moment during this final stage, with the best vibe that you can help us create. Each and every new WoD player will contribute to the momentum which will in turn enable us to do amazing things for the game with future updates.

Please spread the word about the Wave of Darkness and be a regular visitor at the community hub.
Thank you Kickstarter backers, Paypal supporters and Early Access community for your involvement.

Your,

Dreamatrix Team

Wave of Darkness - Preview @ Invision Community

by Hiddenx, 09:50

Tom Lashbrook (Invision Community) has previewed the Steam Early Access game
Wave of Darkness:

[...] Wave of Darkness is definitely not another Legends of Dawn. The developers have definitely learned an important lesson with this game, the lesson of not screwing around with people’s money. Given time Wave of Darkness will blossom into a wonderful rendition of the traditional RPG’s. There are a few issues, most notably the poor graphics optimisations. But with the speed the developers are resolving issues (according to the forums) this should not be an issue for long. This game gets a solid 3. Will I ever come back to this? If I can sort the saving issue maybe.

Wave of Darkness - Version 1.11 Patch Notes

by Hiddenx, 21:11

A new patch for Wave of Darkness is out:

Wave of Darkness Patch 1.11 is now live.

  • Standing creatures corpses and frozen monsters
The game had a nasty bug with animations not being played on dead creatures during the saved game loading. Now those animations are played correctly, although this should be tested some more.
Also, it is very likely that this issue is connected to bug that sometimes occurs when player kills the monster and death animation is not played so that monster stays frozen in place. This bug is visual bug only - it has no other impact on the game, but it is annoying. Game should be tested some more to see if the fix removed death animation bug also.
We have spent a lot of time fixing this bug, so that's why this patch doesn't bring more fixes and upgrades as the previous one.
  • Door animation bug
Doors on the location [945,751] had visual bug. Door worked fine but were rendered incorrectly. This has been fixed.
  • Young Deepcave Storm Tormentor bug
This creature at location [1216,1273] was not supposed to be here. Tormentor spider was testing spider used during quest scripting. We have deleted all of them except this one. Instead of Tormentor, there should be Venomous Spider at this location. This has been fixed.
  • Invisible Spirit bug
Invisible Spirit had wrong name for aura effect. It should be "Horror" instead of standard debug ~missing~. This has been fixed.

As always, stay up-to-date with our work on the Discussion Boards, give us more suggestions about what would you like to see in the game, and of course, report new issues!

Thank you!

Yours,
Dreamatrix Team

Wave of Darkness - 1.10 Patch Notes

by Hiddenx, 07:32

A new update für the Early Access game Wave of Darkness is out.
The changelog for patch 1.10:

Hey all! As you can see, we keep patching the game on a regular basis, and the changelog can be seen below:

Wave of Darkness Patch 1.10

  • Music combat and transition/fadeout fixes
  • We have changed time needed for music fadeouts. It was too short and music change was too abrupt. Change from full volume to zero volume lasted approximately 1 second. This is now increased to approximately 10 seconds. Hopefully it will be enough.
  • Cursed item notifications
  • We have added notification icons for cursed items. When you have equipped cursed item, skull icon will be displayed beneath player's name and level (similar to icons representing spell effects). Placing mouse over skull icon will show you which item is cursed and what you have to do to remove the curse (identify at oracle stones and/or then pray at god shrine).
  • Map zoom changed
  • Map zoom was slightly off when zooming on 1/3 screen sized map. This has been fixed. Maps panel should now work fine no matter what the size of the map window is.
  • Map 'Size' button
  • We added 'Size' button to Maps panel. Clicking on it will toggle panel size between (almost) fullscreen size and 1/3 screen size panel.
  • Map icons upgraded
  • We have slightly changed some icons. Few of them had low contrast in regard to background. This has been fixed.
  • Additional map locations #1
  • We have added fishing places and danian tomb locations to the maps panel.
  • Additional map locations #2
  • We have added 'singing stones' locations to the maps panel.
  • Intro text corrections
  • We have changed intro text. Thanks to Kepi al-Duri for this one.

Once again, we would like to mention that on this link you can see what are we currently working on and what fixes you can expect in the future!

Thank you for your support!

Yours,
Dreamatrix Team

By the way: Kepi al-Duri is the Watcher Cthulhufan who helped Dreammatrix with the translation of the introduction letter at the beginning of the game - good work Cthulhufan!

Wave of Darkness - 1.06 Patch Notes

by Myrthos, 16:25

A recently released patch for Wave of Darkness brings its version to 1.06 and features the following:

  • Bigger Maps Panel/Major Map Update

We have updated maps panel. Previous Maps panel had serious problems. One of our primary concerns when creating GUI was that each and every GUI panel must fit into minimal supported resolution for the game - which is 1024x768 pixels. That means no panel can be higher than ~700 pixels. This is all fine but most players today play at 1680x1050 of HD resolutions which means they have extra space and no panel uses it. Smaller panels are not a problem for most of the time. Characters panel, or Legendary Items panel never need extra size, but maps panel could really benefit from being bigger.
    So we started brainstorming.

First thing we decided was to expand maps panel to fit almost entire screen. This gave us much needed space. Game will always rescale the maps panel to fit almost entire screen (there will be 25 pixels on all sizes around the Maps panel window but that's it). In addition to that, we cut extra space at the top of the Maps panel which gave us almost 100 pixels.
Coordinates label at the bottom, region title, X button and other panel components will be placed on their positions depending which resolution you use.
So now map area is much larger. One thing to note is that, since map area is larger, background map image is blurier. Previous map image had 2048x2048 resolution. New image has 4096x4096 resolution. If your graphics card does not support 4096x4096 textures, it will be scaled to fit the maximum supported size for your card.
In addition, we decided to remove zoom in/zoom out buttons. They were ok for the previous map, but they are seriously lacking for upgraded one. At the bottom of the maps panel, there is new zoom slider. You can use it to zoom in and out much more easily than before.

Previous Maps panel had checkboxes with various location types such as entrances to dungeons or locations of god shrines or other points of interest. We have removed those checkboxes since they took large amount of screen space. In order to toggle display of various maps components you can use new Filter button at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on it will activate popup window with various filters available. You can toggle on and off each filter entry as you wish. Default state is that everything will be displayed.

We have added new icons and new location types to the Maps panel. From version 1.06 forward you will be able to see all previous locations including new ones: wells, campfires, signposts, metal ores, plants, oracles, respawn points, teleport stones and legendary items. We are working on adding even more locations. Reason for long wait between 1.05 and 1.06 is mostly that we had to rewrite large part of this panel which included both code change and graphics change.

We are aware that some features are still missing. The button to center the player and the mouse wheel capability to zoom the map in and out are coming in the next patch. Those are not implemented yet.
  • Various map fixes
We have fixed various hidden locations throughout the map. Some of them contained no monsters or no itemholders and those locations are usually made specifically to hide such rewards. That's fixed now. We expect there will be more such bugs in the future. Game is simply too big not to make such mistakes.
  • Lord Nevera problem
Lord Nevera had faulti script while in the Lost bay region. It is now fixed. Quest 'Wind, Blood and High Seas' should end when player talks to Lord Nevera and 'Rising Tide' quest should start after the Nevera is defeated.
Note: if you have savegame near the Lord Nevera, it may be neccessary to move few screens back so that scripts are refreshed and Nevera respawns with new script attached to him.
  • Caretaker of Change notification
'Caretaker of Change' quest requires that player finds caretaker's house and brings Caretaker's notes back to Xocutus. When clicking on caretaker's body, standard chest/itemholder panel was opened. This has been changed so that clicking on caretaker's body activates tooltip with hint.
  • Problem with Mouse Cursor
Few people had problem with mouse cursor. Game uses colorized mouse cursors which are changed depending on player's actions. However, on some configurations there is a problem where players are unable to move mouse cursor at all.

Possible workaround for this problem is to edit config\game_lod.config.txt file and change this line:

    use_hardware_mouse_cursor: 0

Setting this value to zero will disable colorized mouse cursor and use default window mouse cursor. We have reports this fixed the problem for most of the players with this bug.
At this time we are not sure what is the cause of this issue. We suspect it's a driver problem or some such but we are unable to reproduce this bug at this time. Wave of Darkness runs on multiple systems (Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10) and it's very hard to check all the combinations of hardware, software and drivers. Obviously some configurations don't like hardware mouse cursor change but unfortunately we cannot seem to reproduce this issue on our machines. We'll notify you if we manage to reproduce and/or completely fix this bug.
  • Stairs and Navigation
We have changed way the navigation on stairs works. It's still not perfect but navigation over them should be better than before.
  • Windowed mode for localization
"It is necessary windowed mode. This will allow the streamer to do translation and overview videos much easier."

We have added option to start the game in windowed mode. However this option is not for regular playing, just to be used during translation/localization process. In order to activate it, you will have to add following line in the config\game_lod.config.txt file:

    allow_windowed_mode: 1

When this option is activated and you start the game, you will be asked whether you wish to run the game in fullscreen or windowed mode.
  • News button
News button activated Legends of Dawn news download and not Wave of Darkness download. This has been fixed.
  • Unused button crash
Unused button Options -> Graphics -> Shaders caused crash. This button has been removed.

Wave of Darkness - Development Update

by Couchpotato, 05:56

The latest update from Aurofinity & Dreamatrix has information on the development of Wave of Darkness. Don't forget to read our two interviews with the developer.

The state of Wave of Darkness development!

How have you all been? :-)

We have been pretty busy! It has been a while since our last update, so it's time to update you with the stuff we are currently working on.

These days we are working on additional tutorial scripts. It's not such a hard job to implement them, actually it's extremely simple to add few scripts here and there, but it's hard to decide when enough is enough.

Uploading the game to Steam and other stuff

Also, we are in process of uploading working versions of the game to Steam. We do not have final date yet but we think early access version will be prepared quite soon. We'll inform you about that in one of the future updates. One thing we need to implement regarding the Steam version of the game are Steam online achievements. They are coded and implemented in the game, we just need to implement and test everything with the Steam.

On the other hand, we still have tons of features in the "this is not 'must have' or even 'should have' feature, but it would be really nice if we could implement those. We are still combing through them to see which of those we can implement so that they work well with existing gameplay components.

My vote is for the set items - those magical items that amplify each other when you complete entire set - I think Diablo had/has them. Another nice thing I think we can implement is familiars - small animals you can use to scout ahead (they would actually be just items you can use to do something such as open some fog-of-war area in the maps panel or something). I would really like if we could implement Kodo and Podo in the game. Just with different names of course. :)

Wave of Darkness - Kickstarter Rewards Update

by Couchpotato, 02:35

The latest update from Aurofinity & Dreamatrix has information on everything backers need to know about getting their Kickstarter Rewards from the developer.

 Everything about Kickstarter rewards!

All digital rewards, meaning Wave of Darkness Early Access game keys, Legends of Dawn game keys, Spaceforce game keys and all other rewards you will receive the digital way - will be ready this month (April 2015).

Your Wave of Darkness Early Access keys will be ready by the end of this month. Early Access is our "first", so we need to properly prepare for the launch, in order to make the experience fine and dandy for all of you.

You will get the Wave of Darkness Early Access keys via HumbleBundle. We highly suggest that you access HumbleBundle with the email you used for Kickstarter too.

Also, we would want to mention a small remark regarding receiving keys via HumbleBundle. The last time when we sent Legends of Dawn keys, there was a small delay, which resulted in a complete panic among some users. If that happens with Wave of Darkness Early Access keys - please don't panic. You WILL receive your key.

About the Collector's Box reward. We anticipate those will be ready sometime near the end of this year, but we will most definitely inform you if something changes in that aspect.

Future plans

Our plans for the future are pretty clear. The first step is to bring Spaceforce: Rogue Universe back to Steam, which could be ready in a few days. We are working on a Wave of Darkness Early Access Steam page as we write this, as well as fixing, polishing and optimizing the game.

We are also constantly listening to suggestions on various forums, and we would really appreciate if you join us on our communities on Facebook, Twitter, Steam and Instagram.

Given Dreamatrix is a small indie company, every step, no matter how small or big it is, is very important for us. Early Access will be hugely important step for us, and it can decide the future of Dreamatrix. So when the time comes, please, be our voice on the Internet.

RPGWatch - Dreamatrix Game Studios Interview

by Couchpotato, 06:14

We had the chance to once again ask Iggy of Dreamatrix more questions. This time we talk about the recently funded Wave of Darkness, patches, and SpaceForce IP.

Couchpotato: Your new Kickstarter for Wave of Darkness was launched last month, and despite the slow amount of pledges, it was funded. So, how do you all feel?

Iggy: Well, it was an amazing experience all around. We had a very strong start which was about 20% better in contrast to Legends of Dawn campaign, but we also had periods of severe stagnation. There have been times when we thought reaching the funding goal will be pretty difficult, but in the end we even managed to complete three stretch goals. All in all, we feel great, ecstatic to have another title successfully crowdfunded, and now it's time to work!

Couchpotato: Now that Wave of Darkness is funded, what happens now, and do you have a date in mind for when to launch on Steam Early Access?

Iggy: We are putting all of our time and energy into Steam Early Access release, and all of our team testers are hard at work uncovering the issues.

Now we have to wait for about two weeks for Kickstarter to send us the funds, so we estimate Wave of Darkness will be on Early Access around the end of April.

Wave of Darkness - Campaign Update

by Couchpotato, 06:00

After the announcement from yesterday that Aurofinity & Dreamatrix's Hack & Slash game Wave of Darkness was funded the game managed to make two stretch goals.

The developer also released a thank you to all backers today.

Well, talk about thrilling rides, because this one sure was! Wave of Darkness, the second title in our action RPG trilogy has been successfully funded, and all of that because of - you.

You incredible people left us speechless by your support, by your enthusiasm for our project and your generous help to advertise Wave of Darkness even without us mentioning anything before.

We also cannot forget the members of the gaming media and gaming blogs who decided to support us by publishing news and articles about our Kickstarter project.

A lot of factors were against us during the campaign. It was impossible to reach the "major" gaming websites; there was a period of time during the campaign when we didn't have any pledge at all, and we had serious concerns regarding the success of this journey.

But we did it. And we even surpassed three Stretch Goals. And we managed to collect over $2,000 via PayPal. All thanks to you.

You can still support the game on PayPal if you missed the campaign.

With successfully completed the funding goal and the three Stretch Goals, Wave of Darkness Kickstarter campaign was an amazing experience thanks to all of you!  But, it's not over yet!

All who missed the opportunity to back the Wave of Darkness and receive amazing rewards, while the campaign was live, there is still opportunity to send pledges through PayPal.

Wave of Darkness - Successfully Funded

by Couchpotato, 01:28

With twenty two hours left in the kickstarter campaign Wave of Darkness has been successfully funded. and if your interested you still have time to make a pledge.

The latest update talks about some gameplay features.

Well, this is a thrilling ride, wouldn't you say :-) While we await for the funding goal, let's see what we have in store for all of you and all future Wave of Darkness players in terms of - gameplay features so far.

We have divided those features in three categories: Free character development, Open, large and rich fantasy game world and Combat and survival in the land of Narr. It's important to note that we are working on even more features.

Congratulations Iggy as your team had a rough start.

Wave of Darkness - 40 Hours Left to Get Funded

by Couchpotato, 05:58

The next kickstarter update from Aurofinity & Dreamatrix mentions the game has less than two days to get funded, and goes into detail about the games elementals.

Less than two days to go, plus everything about Elementals!

Hi all!  Wow - you people continue to be simply amazing! We've come so far, and are very close to the funding goal we can reach - together!

Less than two days is before us and Wave of Darkness may see the daylight thanks to you.

Please help us to accomplish our funding goal by sharing Wave of Darkness everywhere you can, and if your budget allows it, by increasing your pledge. We offer really cool rewards in every tier.   Thank you!

And now, the new update regarding - Elementals

The World of Narr is in great danger, and it needs your courage again. On your epic journey you will encounter one of the most dangerous creatures that corrupted the land; the Elementals.

Nobody knows how exactly they appeared in Narr, but the tales from the elders indicate that the wicked wizards from the Danien lineage invoked a God Chernobog who brought nothing but evil and despair.

The ones who encountered the corrupted magic and managed to survive say the Elementals are made out of water, soil, fire and air, while the elders gave a name for each of them: Voda, Zemla, Vatra, Zrak. But not many survived to tell the tale.

The scouts from Djemen and Klesabia reported the sightings, the only one scholar from the Temples got back when the Fire Elemental attacked, while the blacksmiths from the underground mines never stood a chance. The underground is completely overrun by the Zemla's.

But those Elementals are just the beginning of the complete infestation.

An interesting fact: if you hit them properly, the parts are dropping off the Elementals, but they are still very dangerous until completely destroyed. Each of them has different magical powers (a special attack), so everyone who finds themselves close to the Elemental can be moving 20% slower, their health can be drowned, faith will disappear and similar.

Wave of Darkness - Staff Picked Video Update

by Couchpotato, 06:18

The next kickstarter update from Aurofinity & Dreamatrix this week shares information the game was Staff picked, and shared a new video to cerebrate the good news.

loading...

We are entering a final mile and we are excited about Wave of Darkness being featured in Staff picks and New and Noteworthy.

Thank you all who supported us so far. We are humbled by the number of backers who started increasing their pledges. Thank you so much!

They also talk about several regions of the gameworld called Narr.

In this update we are showing you several regions of the world of Narr, and a bit of Wave of Darkness gameplay. The each region (Macabon, Rafalaya Swamp, Ruins of Jibya, Cresnesia, Great Morass, Temple of Essence) hides different monsters, caves, locations and quests.

Thanks to the open-world nature of Wave of Darkness, you are able to explore those regions whenever you want. Tired of solving quests in the current region? You can go and explore dungeons in the East, and seek for the riches and loot they hide.

But beware - even though you can explore any region in the world of Narr, you will need to be suitable prepared for the adventure. That means - prepared for the challenge of each region and all the dangerous monsters out there. Add to that an adaptable creature AI, you could be in some trouble if you go adventuring wearing only a weak armor and some petty dagger.

That is only a tiny fraction of what we have in store for all of you and all the future Wave of Darkness players.

Wave of Darkness offers such exciting features like:

  • Streaming technology enables playing without any loading screens. All data seamlessly loads in background;
  • Explore hundreds of unique locations (dungeons, forts, camps, cemeteries, docks, mountains, canyons, flying islands, swamps, temples, shrines etc.);
  • A complex crafting system with over 25.000 usable items, allows you to make everything from food, metal, wood, stone, leather to weapons and fashion armors;
  • Powerful spell creation system gives unlimited possibilities and easy use;
  • System of sacrifices: The 3 gods; Perun, Veles and Svarog each have their own shrines throughout the continent. Activating a shrine opens the sacrifice panel with options to sacrifice items and gain divine favors;
  • And much, much more.

Wave of Darkness official soundtrack

We are very passionate about the music we make for our games and soundtrack for the Legends of Dawn was received really well. Wave of Darkness soundtrack is continuation of the LoD soundtrack as is the Ancients the 3rd soundtrack. All three sprout from the same seed and are connected through melodies, style and instrument pallets. Wave of Darkness soundtrack, 2nd in series, is a part of all tiers from $30 up.

Some compositions from soundtrack album that you will get with corresponding rewards may in actual game be segmented, shortened and in other ways adapted to better fit different purposes of the game. Legends of Dawn backers of higher tiers who got physical CD soundtrack got deluxe version, expanded and all tracks connected into one gapless whole. They liked it. We plan to do the same for the WoD soundtrack.

In future updates we will feature Soundtrack „Ancients“ and Legends of Dawn Soundtrack „Thunders of Dawn“ which are part of all tiers from $50 and higher.

Wave of Darkness - Rune System & Spell Crafting

by Couchpotato, 03:30

Aurofinity & Dreamatrix next kickstarter update this week for Wave of Darkness has  information the games new Rune, and Spell Crafting system.

Hi all! Welcome to Wave of Darkness Update #7! In this update we are going to talk more about the Rune System and Spell Crafting.

As we are working on both Legends of Dawn and Wave of Darkness, we have made some improvement to rune system and spell crafting. As we have mentioned before, runes are used to create various spells. Different runes add different spell capabilities such as damage, protection or healing. Each runes gives different effect.

One thing that differs between Legends of Dawn rune system and Wave of Darkness rune system is that spells made in Wave of Darkness are upgradeable. More you use them, stronger they become. As you can see from the following picture, each spell has progress bar at the top. As you use this spell, its progress bar will be filled and your spell will gain next level. When the spell becomes upgraded, it will become stronger.

Each new spell you create has Level 1. Unless you use new runes. In addition to regular runestones, now you have Danian Runestones, Mystic Runestone and Blessed Runestones. Each of these act as original runes, only difference is that they guarantee that newly created spell will be of certain level. For example, each Danian Runestone gives level +2 to newly crafted spell.

Wave of Darkness - Streaming & Load Times

by Couchpotato, 04:44

Venturebeat has a new article about how Aurofinity & Dreamatrix's new Hack & Slash game Wave of Darkness uses Streaming to stop load times in different zones.

Typically when I see a Kickstarter in my inbox, I ask the following questions: How is the game’s technology innovative? How is the business model different? The answer surprised me — streaming, and not of the online variety.

“The world is divided into sectors. As player/camera moves around, sectors are streamed in and out of memory,” said Igor Gajic of Dreamatrix Games Studios over e-mail. He then went into a long technical explanation, but he then realized he’s talking to a RPG geek, not a coder, and summed it up.

“To be a bit less ‘techy,’ the game engine is made in a way that player can explore everything and however he wants,” Gajic said. “If a player is tired of killing monsters and solving quests on the east, he can go north and explore it, slay northern monsters, and generally do whatever he desires. A sandbox experience.”

Waves of Darkness also offers multiclass-style character system, so you can ditch one style for another as you play.

“So basically you have a complete freedom, even with character creation. For example, you decided to start the game by creating a sword-wielding character, but after a while you realize swords aren’t really your thing. [Waves of Darkness] enables you to combine, explore and experiment with character classes however you want, without limitations,” he said. “This means that without the need to start the game all over again you can have a powerful melee/ranged or ranged/magic character even if you made a mistake by choosing a character class that doesn’t fit your RPG affinities.”

Wave of Darkness - Endorsed by Brian Fargo

by Couchpotato, 04:51

Aurofinity & Dreamatrix announced today in a new kickstarter update for Wave of Darkness that Brian Fargo supported the game on Twitter this week.

We may be a small team from Croatia, but when these kind of things happen, you know your hard work and effort is starting to pay-off.

Well, this happened a few days ago - the legend himself, Brian Fargo backed Wave of Darkness and Tweeted about it!

Just for the record. The guy was the main figure on iconic projects like Fallout, The Bard's Tale, The Lost Vikings, Wasteland, Wasteland 2, and is working on one of the most anticipating RPG titles, Torment: Tides of Numenera.

We have no words to describe how incredibly privileged we are regarding that gesture.

Brian - you're the best!

Congraulations Iggy give my regards to the rest of your team.Smile

Wave of Darkness - Solve the Puzzle Update

by Couchpotato, 04:33

The fourth kickstarter update for Wave of Darkness has news the game has 200 bakers. It also gives a short description of how puzzles will be better in the sequel.

200 backers! Just... wow. Thank you guys so much! And in order to thank you, we have something special in store: puzzles!

The story begins long time ago, when the danian's inhabited most of the world of Narr. Those mystical and magic-power folks had a habit to store valuable relics to family tombs, and those relics were a powerful magical items.

It was known that the owner of the any weapons or armors enchanted with that kind of powerful relic becomes a dangerous adversary. Even ring can be enchanted. But, danians being danians, they of course had to complicate everything to hell and back. Even though the explorers say that those relics can be found in ordinary chests, at the remote and dangerous places filled with powerful and notorious monsters, it is not uncommon to find a forgotten tomb which can be opened only if you solve the puzzle written on it. Old Danians always made new, difficult and random puzzles wishing all the worst to the wandering traveler who wanted to loot their tombs.

Wave of Darkness offers better, bigger and more complex puzzles.

Wave of Darkness - Upgraded Level Cap

by Couchpotato, 05:16

The second kickstarter update for Wave of Darkness has news the game has information the game has earned $4,000, and talks about the upgraded level cap.

Well, really exciting stuff is happening around Wave of Darkness Kickstarter campaign! We passed $4,000 pledged and it's only the second day.

Once again we are asking you to please tell everyone you know about our campaign. The most important thing is to spread the word as far as we can.

But let's talk more about your in-game character. A really cool feature we are going to offer to Legends of Dawn players is that you are going to be able to transfer your Legends of Dawn character to Wave of Darkness! Furthermore, level cap is raised to 35, although that is prone to change (could be more), but you'll have to be careful since WoD contains much more regions than LoD, and much more badass monsters.

Wave of Darkness - 15% Funded Update

by Couchpotato, 04:46

The first update from Aurofinity & Dreamatrix has infomation their new Hack & Slash game Wave of Darkness is now 15% funded, and talks about future stretch goals.

It was amazing 1st day. We reached almost 15% of our minimum funding target.

We are extremely happy to see here some of our old friends from the days of Legends of Dawn campaign.

We kindly ask you to spread the word through social media, even to those who might not be interested in RPG. As you can see we prepared quite nice introductory rewards for $1 and $5 tiers. Even the smallest 1 USD support will be greatly appreciated.

Right now we have a list of some 15-20 stretch goals sorted in three different groups - backer achievements, promotion achievements and funding achievements. We will post more details about them in one of the future updates. But for now, here is short description of them.

Each new backer who will join WoD community increases the total number of our backers and brings us closer to the next backer achievement. Once we have sufficient number of backers, we will implement additional upgrades to the game itself. This means upgrade whether game is funded or not! Details about them will be posted in one of the next updates.

Wave Of Darkness - Kickstarter Launched

by Couchpotato, 02:39

Aurofinity & Dreamatrix have launched their promised sequel to Legends of Dawn called Wave of  Darkness, and are asking for $20,000 to help fund the game.

loading...

We have originally envisioned a trilogy so part of the Wave of Darkness (WOD) has been developed simultaneously with Legends of Dawn (LOD, which was funded here in 2013). The story takes place in the world of Narr and continues where we stop in LOD, but WOD can be played on its own, independently of the LOD. On the other hand the player can load your character from the LOD into WOD. The player enters the game in times of war and chaos that reigns across the Danian area around their Capitol - Sidis Tarea - situated in midst of swamps. Featuring a vast and impressive game world, a comprehensive crafting system, original spell generator, system of sacrifices, new gods, compelling storyline, future ‘modding’ capability, streaming technology, mini-games, and endless slashing, blasting and looting. Wave of Darkness is an hack’n RPG”.

RPGWatch - Wave Of Darkness Interview

by Couchpotato, 05:13

A sequel to Legends of Dawn? It's called Wave of Darkness, and I had the chance to interview Dreamatrix Game Studios about their new game.

Here is a small sample of one of my questions.

Couchpotato: Your most recent game Legends of Dawn was funded on Kickstarter, and released with a lot of negative feedback. Were you discouraged by the overwhelmingly negative reception of Legends of Dawn?

Dino: We also got tons of positive and constructive feedback. “Negative” feedback was deserved, and I don’t believe in negative feedback. It is a feedback, people telling you what they don’t like or want differently and when you strip emotional part the substance of feedback is very constructive as it points to solutions and learnings. When people care they are passionate and then some things may be taken too seriously. When expectations are set, a few disappointments are bound to happen. If you can’t handle that, don’t do games (or anything involving other people).

For those who may not know; due to some miscommunication LoD was released on Steam earlier than planned and backers got their keys a few hours after the release as we were rushing through the damage control. It was enough to set [the] stage on fire. A few backers were provoked and become extremely vocal. Those who were publicly supportive of us or our game were attacked and silenced as well. But hey, this is how this works nowadays. Behavior on internet and forums is still evolving from its “wild west” stage and exaggeration is the norm. Anyway 99% of our backers and new owners of Legends of Dawn were supportive and were happily playing the game.

Without the backers, supportive or at some point angry, we wouldn’t be on Steam, nor would we have a chance to develop our upcoming Wave of Darkness. We received so much helpful feedback and the whole experience was amazing. We’ll avoid repeating mistakes, [but] if you are doing anything new and ambitious, can you avoid them all?
