Great Beasts and Turn-Based Carnival

Greetings, Commanders!

Since Turn-Based Carnival has started on Steam, and Zodiac Legion is featured as part of it, we figured it would make for a good occasion to reveal the latest upcoming addition to our bestiary – great, hulking, intimidating, monstrous beasts!

The first one you may already be familiar with, since it’s been lurking in our screenshots and other materials for a while, but we’ve never introduced it properly. The scorpion beast is a living weapons platform employed by the fleshcrafters of the Aegidian League. Heavily armoured and with fearsome pincers to match, it projects a terrifying presence on any battlefield, but its most devastating weapon is its stinger, which is capable of launching magical projectiles over great distances, making the scorpion a natural artillery unit. Zodiac Champions will need to carefully consider how to tackle these abominations – whether to seek shelter from their barrage or approach and be torn to shreds in close combat.

Next there are two very special newcomers. The French region of Provence is known for its chivalric traditions, and so we sought its support in financing the game, and the grant we’ve received has allowed us to make room for two monstrosities from Provençal folklore. The Coulobre and the Tarasque are the first dragons to slither their way into Zodiac Legion. The former is a great winged serpent – slaying it may prove a challenge given its lethal breath and razor-sharp claws. The latter is a lumbering behemoth with a carapace tougher than any steel, and with a strength and ferocity that let it crush its foes even when greatly outnumbered, literally stomping them into the dirt.

It will take all your might and cunning to bring down these dreadful creatures! Standard infantry formations may not save your men from bombardment, deadly sprays and trampling. Only with faith in the stars will your knights emerge victorious.

The combat demo for Zodiac Legion is now available on Steam.

The combat demo of Zodiac Legion is out

Dear players,

I uploaded a demo of some of our dungeon missions to Steam.
There is no tutorial yet, so you need to refer to the manual if you want to know the game rules (which I recommend!).
It is located in the Steam ZodiacLegionFolder/docs/Zodiac Legion Demo Manual.pdf
The Steam folder should be somewhere like:
D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Zodiac Legion
You can also find the online version here.

The current version is quite rough, especially when it comes to pacing and balance.
There is no geoscape yet, except for party selection. But that would give you an idea of the way combat and dungeon crawling work in the game.

We would also thank all the players who applied for our alpha test. We got more applications than keys, so we had to suspend the process for the time being.
But the preview build and demo build are identical at this stage, so if you could not apply in time, or would like to try the game while I request a few more keys, you can try the demo build.

As the Grandmaster of the Zodiac Order, it will be your duty to restore this knightly brotherhood and rally its champions under the banners of the thirteen Zodiac signs. You will manage your domain, take important diplomatic decisions and train your warriors in the arcane arts. Enemy armies will invade your borders, forcing you to dispatch your knights on missions resolved through turn-based, tactical battles. Their superhuman powers will tip the scales in the face of overwhelming odds, but beware: many will not survive the ordeal. Yet exploring the secrets of necromancy may reveal that a Zodiac Knight's duty need not end in death.

The work on Zodiac Legion began because we shared the vision of a game that would combine the tactical combat and strategic campaign of X-COM, with the fantasy aspects and dungeon crawling typical of most roleplaying games.

We decided to use the theme of the Zodiac because of its association with classical mythology, and due to its ties with distinct character archetypes, which served as the foundation of our class system. There are hundreds of distinct features and qualities attributed to the signs by astrology, which lends itself to a robust and interconnected system that has an impact on all the aspects of Zodiac Legion's gameplay and storytelling.
