It’s difficult to label because there are no games that I know like it. At its core, Overlive is a Role Playing Game that plays kind of like an interactive “Choose Your Own Adventure” story, set in a zombie post-apocalyptic world. Between the zombies and remnants of the military gone rogue, the primary goal of Overlive is to escape your zombie-infested city before the city nuclear plant has a meltdown, and achieve the best possible score grade based on your conduct (were you good or evil?). It’s a heavily choice-based game where the Player, a survivor, must choose what to do each day, ranging from training their skills, resting, or exploring the city. Combat plays out in real time and includes melee, ranged, and explosive attacks. There are thousands of decisions to make during exploration. The Player can focus on combat or non-combat skills (computers, lockpicking, engineering, etc) to overcome obstacles and get through the game.
