Spellforce 3 Reforced Review: A Balanced RPG to RTS Blend
Spellforce 3 Reforced successfully manages to blend isometric RPG and RTS gameplay elements and combines them with a complex, winding fantasy story.
Historically, western RPGs have often had a strong tactical angle to them, whether through the strategic angle of the Banner Saga series or the turn-based system of the original Fallout games. However, the Spellforce games very much entwine the two from a game structure perspective, combining RTS and RPG mechanics to create something quite different. Developer Grimoire Games initially released Spellforce 3 in 2017, and now a new expanded version called Spellforce 3 Reforced is available.
Overall, Spellforce 3 Reforced is a fun RTS/RPG hybrid with a very compelling story. The individual gameplay components work well, although more narrative fluidity when focusing on RTS moments could have made Spellforce 3 Reforced a must-play. Nonetheless, fans of both RTS and RPG genres will find something to love here.
