Curst Gone
Gone? (AR0800)
Once Curst was here but now it's gone. Wow!
a complete city has been swiped away. You might recollect the
talk about Curst being shifted into Carceri. Didn't you wish you
listened more carefully then? You're thinking about exploring
here? Don't!!!
Only one!
In the north of this area there is the gateway
to Carceri and there is only one monster walking around here.
Just one you think. Piece of cake! Wrong again, we're talking
here about the Fiend from Mar's Box. You remember the one you
dragged around in the Hive. Finally you found someone that could
solve the problem and scattered the fiend over the planes. The
pieces all came here and we are talking about a big mean bastard.
It has some 250HP and it is highly resistant to magic.
The theory
You can approach the fined in several ways.
The first is to make a run to the gateway to Carceri and forget
the fiend. That's the easiest way but you miss out on XP and a
very interesting item the fiend is carrying. Another way to go
about it could be to make hit and runs. You run a whole lot faster
than the fiend. So fire up your thief Annah to give her better
backstabbing capabilities and let here have a go at it in stealth
mode. Then let her run away and hide. Then you or your party will
have to attack the monster, with spells for example. They do not
many harms but it will distract him from following Annah. She
can then go back to stealth mode and repeat this.
Get lucky
One other way is to use the spell of Abyssal
Fury. This spell has two save modes that are possible. The first
is the save fails and then the fiend dies. The second is that
it suffers 5 hits (damage ranging from 1 to 10 per hit). The save
throw of the fiend is very high so you might consider repeating
this by saving and loading repeatedly. I was lucky and got him
the second time. I retried that, but then I only achieved it after
several reloads.
A ring
Assuming that you killed it you find a ring on him, the Aegis of Torment that gives an addition to HP, Armor class and constitution. When you are done head for the gateway to Carceri, when you approach it, it talks to you and you can ask it what happened. Step through the portal to arrive in Carceri where the Deva awaits you.
