Fallout 4 has been impacted by Windows 10's latest update...but there's a fix.

Fallout 4 is one of the few games released last year on PC that isn’t extremely demanding, allowing those without a high-end machine to enjoy the game fully. Some of those who are running the game under Windows 10, however, have been dealing with some performance issues following the latest update in the past few hours. A dedicated edit user, thankfully, has already managed to find a fix for this issue.

I had this issue myself, wondered what was going on. I blamed it on Steam screwing up something but it seems it's not Steam's fault after all. Kinda ruined my hardest difficulty play-through too by resetting it to Normal before I could notice, and I possibly lost achievements associated with finishing the game never switching out of hard mode. Seems like a minor thing, but it's 80+ hours of gameplay that I won't repeat just to get the achievement.

Just stupid that no other game I've played so far in W10 has seemed to have any issues, other than the one with the biggest budget.

I liked this quote:

So Microsoft gets every Windows 10 users' My Documents folder contents uploaded to their cloud servers without user consent just by introducing an important patch through automatic update? Neat-O.

Not happy with how MS is more and more telling its users what to do. Just annoying and no I do not want my core stuff on someone else's server. I use cloud for back up and only backup and even then only selected stuff.

Luckily some good tools to disable or uninstall one drive as well as many of the tracking things in win10.

Ugh. *shiver* I'm putting off upgrading as long as I possibly can. Windows 10 gives me the creeps.

Yea; foobar on the fallout topic; this is really a big no no by microsoft and bothers me quite a bit. I'm still on win 7 but rumour is they are going to do a similar push later this year will the 'force' people to upgrade (whether they wish to or not) via an 'important' patch.

I have not only no plans to ever upgrade to Win10 I also uninstalled Win 7 and win 8.1 MS spyware updates and blocked them from even installing again. Frack MS.
I am probably switching to Steam OS in future once it is ready.

Good for you. Keep at that. :)

That is not the only problem. They wil persuade more devs to do games only for Win 10 + DirX 12.

The problem is not performance, but the fact that Windows 10 tends to spy a lot more than older windows versions. If you have Windows 10, either invest a lot of time to prevent M$ to get all(!) your data or live with the fact that they have it.

Hmmm…I'm not sure on what they are spying about? Maybe search patterns?

The search engine is called Cortana, we all know what happened…

Note: this is a reference to the Halo series.

Drakensang Platinum Edition actualy got a few bad reviews from users who couldn't play this game on I think it was windows 8 or 7, because Microsoft just didn't give their OS DirectX 9.

It's a typical move by Microsoft, long documented : Blame it on the the other company.

I couldn't care less what info MS is collecting. MS is an amateur compared to the data google collects.

Anyone ever look at their google dashboard? I didn't even know it existed then one day I got an email to check it.

It had all my searches, emails, texts with google voice, purchases with Google wallet, every where I'd went that month tracked with my gps, calendar, etc. it was quite extensive.

Haven't looked at it since.

I'd like to substantiate what happened in the Win 10 update. This may be a bigger deal than you're allowing. The news story is that all people running Windows 10 are potentially having documents moved to offsite data locations without their permission (opt-out, no warning vs opt-in). One's relationship with Google is already somewhat a known thing. You're communicating with Google and your data and behavior are known to them. This is a step deeper, potentially creating major problems. Perhaps even causing people to violate multiple laws.

Example 1: If I keep tax documents, encrypted or unencrypted, on my HD in Documents, then MS is moving very secret information that goes far deeper than Google transactions without my permission.

Example 2: I sometimes deal with export controlled documents in the US. If I pass those documents or any part of them beyond US borders including through IP bounces or to overseas data centers, I could be in violation of US law albeit accidentally. This is one reason researchers on my campus have problems using MS as the campus-wide email provider. Some work on DARPA projects and have to protect their data. This means they have to get exceptions from the university and maintain on-campus email servers to continue to communicate and not violate the law.

Sorry I was replying to a post about Microsofts data collection so my post wasn't really in reference to the article but to a post.

Thanks for the information on the article though. I don't keep anything sensitive on my PC. I keep them on a separate password protected drive on the network. Would that be subject to microsofts reach?

Haven't been on my PC in a couple weeks so ( I pretty much only game and surf the web on my PC) I don't know if I'm affected at alll as I run all my business and personal finance stuff on apple laptop and iPad but I do back them up to the password protected drive I mentioned.

Grab some stream downloader, go porntube, redtube and etc, then download random stuff, don't bother watching (I mean… well…).
Continue till you get hundreds of that crap, copy/paste it all in my documents. Even better would be to upload on Microsoft's OneDrive.
And make sure every file has xxx, pervy, kinky or something in the title, doesn't matter, the point is to stuff it up M$' telemetry.

Sour them the milk.
If you get advertisments back as "reward" at least you'll know to expect tits.

Win 10 saving files by default in the OneDrive folder date back to Windows 8.1.

Also, the only way Win 10 can upload anything to a OneDrive account is if you logged in with a Microsoft account instead of a local PC one and haven't disabled OneDrive yet (if you don't use it, I don't see why you would keep it running).

It's true, to use OD, you need M$ acc.
But I'm not sure why would anyone create or use an account on microsoft.com. For cloud storage I use completely free and without adds box.com. Everything works through browser and it's not spying.
