This story represents the third and final essay written by Randolph Symes, a long-time member of the Phoenix Project. Neatly blending fact and fiction, this story leaves us with more questions than answers - but also gives us plenty to talk about!

The Origin of Species

In a woOooorrrRRrld…… One day Julian came into the office and noticed a greenish-yellow sponge like alien blob on the wall right beside his favorite XCOM: UFO DEFENSE poster. It turned out was a deadly alien organism, which began to proliferate and eventually engulfed all the developers along with their PCs and the blob ate the offices and broke out of the building, causing an effective Invasion of Earth. That's how it all started. Then the Blob started to smuggle AK-47s and grew arms to handle the weapons, then the Blob got itself Incorporated and began building its own Applied Research & Development Labs - the idea it got from the Batman movies it watched during the nights - and then it grew smaller minions from its own body and started to invade the world.
