Genshin Impact - Is it too late to start playing?

The problem with this game is that late starters won't get the event exclusive things anymore, plus, they won't get event-exclusive background lore.
For example, the figure of Gouba - his background was explained in an event, it seems to me, which I never saw. Only a video is left explaining him.
On the positive side : The game feels so much more seamless now, with all parts of each region being there. Fontaine is currently in the process of being expanded with each update, and at the end it will look and feel like a huge, seamless area as well. Think of puzzle pieces being put together into a bigger picture.
