Well magic that requires a sacrifice has already been done in books and movies before. So yeah it's a good idea but I wouldn't want to play such an RPG.

Basically in order to use magic you either give up your humanity, or pay with your life force. One good example is the Craft were it make mage's get older.

Well you literally gave him the textbook answer. Maybe that's what he wanted? 🤷‍♂️

Makes sense. Like in early editions of D&D (AD&D) everytime you got hasted your character aged one year. I always thought that should have been a tax for the caster rather than the target. I think everytime you cast a spell having the magic corrupt the caster is also an interesting way of handling it if the narrative could support it.

Yes, that's right. There are still expressions which I just don't understand.
The word "dear" has usually a different meaning to me, when I tried to translate it, I got an expression I just didn't understand, with "dear" meaning something into the direction of "something close to the heart", like beloved family members or close friends. I never had the idea to use this expression in combination with money ... or with "costs" in any way in general.

I never read many fantasy novels in general, but curiously, the rareness of spell components - or even spell components and the search for them - is never described in fantasy novels. even although they do exist - and some of them are indeed rare ( see (A)D&D , or Ultima.)
I think, it would bbe a nice idea to write a story about finding spell components, and nothing but that. I mean, it would be like a Tavern simulator : Something that was never described in novels, how keeping and managing a tavern actually works - and now, for several few years now, we have Tavern simulators !

That concept is probably more suitable for a low magic setting or perhaps dark fantasy. In a way it reminds me of Dark Sun, where magic has ravaged the landscape and has become something reviled. Or perhaps wild magic in D&D, where magic can blow up in your face.
