I've posted the whole list, because it's a good overview of the best 2022 RPG releases.

Wow, Black Geyser 3rd. Wouldn't have guessed that. We made @lackblogger proud

Maybe I need to check out the King Arthur game.

While I voted Elden Ring first and ELEX II second, I congratulate Piranha Bytes to their well deserved victory!
I hope that they continue making such great games!

Well i voted ELEX 2 for my goty, finished in in about 90h and enjoyed it alot. I think it shows just how bad the year was, ELEX was not a good game even for PB fans, still required maybe a year more before release. Just looking at that list, 2022 was a sad year for rpgs. If not for Elden Ring, i dont think anyone would have remembered this year lol.

I don't see it so negative - I've played 15 of the listed games and enjoyed most of them. I've bought another 5 of this list, but still have to play them.

At least Elden Snooze didn't get the first place

I'm surprised to see Black Geyser in the top 3 or even anywhere near it, but it makes sense to see Elex II up there.

Thanks @HiddenX! :)
ELEX II and Elden Ring are very close and Black Geyser and Expeditions: Rome, too.

In fact Elden Ring has the most votes for place 1, but ELEX II has nearly as much for place 1 and much more votes for place 2 and place 3.

I have weighted place-1-votes with factor 4, place-2-votes with factor 2 and place-3-votes with a factor 1.

Interesting... I thought the first Elex was so bad, but I tried to play it multiple times just because this forum kept talking about how good it was. I never thought Elex 2 would be in the top 5, so I now admit there's a disconnect there with my gaming interests. I also have no interest in games like Elden Ring.

It was an off year for me. Luckily 2023 looks pretty good.

Cool two of my games made the list and for once Elden Ring wasn't number one. 🥂

I doubt I would ever enjoy playing Elden Ring, but all the praise does make me want to try it out.
I'll add it to my wishlist for when it's really cheap.

EDIT: I wouldn't have expected Black Geysers anywhere near the top from all the negative stuff I had seen. It's not my cup of tea, but great for them.

It's a classic isometric RPG so it's no wonder that some members like it. Sure it's poor-mans Baldur's Gate clone but it does bring it's own style with the greed mechanic.

Also in a year full of JRPGs and indie games I'm not surprised it won on RPGWatch.

Huh, that's a pretty good list. Glad to see Expeditions so high and that Tactics Ogre and Triangle Strategy made it. A little surprised (but happy) to see King Arthur: Knight's Tale so high up there.

I thought Eldin Ring might actually be lower down but it seems everyone, everywhere likes it. I actually just bought it during the Winter Sale and am playing it right now. I am not a souls fan but I am (mostly) enjoying it, but it wouldn't be anywhere near a top of the list game for me.

Lol.

There's no surprise that Elex II made the no.1 spot, even with a less exciting IP, Piranha Bites fans here are packed to the rafters and there was little doubt it would be more than enough for enough of them.

Elden Ring was always going to be more unguessable as From Software are more console specialists and so don't have as many core fans here, so 2nd is a monumental achievement for the Soulslikes at this site.

3rd could and should have gone to any of the next three IMO & I wouldn't have been heartbroken if the order of these three were in any order and tbh I'm quite surprised Black Geyser pipped both Rome and Arthur.

Nice to see Knights of the Chalice II next on the list, it's by far the best of the rest in terms of RPG achievement IMO.

As HiddenX said, there's actually lots of interesting and tempting games on the list and plenty to keep any RPG fan happy for ages there. That most people voted none in a year with so much variety suggests that a lot of people here have extremely narrow objectives in their RPG tastes.

I'd say this year was loads better than 2019, for example, a year when the top 6 was: Outer Worlds, Disco Elysium, Greedfall, Outward, Fell Seal, Druidstone. But then games like OW, Gf and Ow all appeal to the exact same demographic here, the same sizeable demographic who couldn't find much this year ;) DE was a great game for the ages, but it's RPGness is still in debate even today and Druidstone was considered barely RPG even at the time, but the year was so bad it made 6th. That was the year I was championing 'none'.

Perhaps Black Geyser finished 3rd because Stingray wasn't alone in voting for it because of the sort of game it is and the possibility he'll like it in the future, rather than voting for it because it was played and it was good.

I agree that we have a lot of good games here. Maybe not all AAA, but fun to play. We should be spoiled for choice.
