I can't imagine how it makes actual sense, but there seems to be some people in this world who would be better off ignorant, people for whom ignorance really would be bliss. I pity them as if they were born under a bad sign.
Here's an example of someone in the news right now who's like that. Maybe he's crazy or confused. Maybe he's suffering from disastrous environmental effects. Maybe he's possessed. But he's clearly too smart for his own good.
Arguably, people who go down this road could use a master's scolding, a therapist's extreme counsel, or a priest's exorcism, something dramatic to prime the common-sense pump that for them has, somehow, run tragically dry. What works fine for the rest of us, logic and reason, only seems to confuse them more, these poor, poor people.
