DualShockers was given a chance to see a build of the Gothic Remake.
Gothic was a game before its time, overshadowed by its flashier Bethesda-made rival. With later games from developer Piranha Bytes not quite building on the potential showcased in the original or its 2002 sequel, the series faded into something of a niche—known and adored by a small but passionate community. In 2018, Spanish developer Alkimia Interactive (formerly THQ Barcelona) was tasked with remaking this PC classic. The remake’s been in development for over five years, and has gone through a drastic directional change since its ‘Playable Teaser’ came out four years ago.

Now, alongside our resident Gothic guru Jason Moth, I got an exclusive look at the first 20 minutes of the revamped remake, and got to speak with its Game Director, Reinhard Pollice, about how they’re reviving the venerable RPG.

Damn five years already and they still have nothing to show.

My fellow RPG enjoyer Robert Zak and I were recently fortunate enough to sit down with Gamer Director Reinhard Pollice, and we got to chat a bit about the current state of the Remake. Even better, we got the chance to take a look at an exclusive preview, and I very much liked what I saw. While I was a little bit skeptical following the most recent trailer showcasing the Old Camp, I now firmly believe that the folks over at Alkimia Interactive are on the right track here.

Nothing new there, but I'm with you in hoping they finally show some gameplay at the showcase.

This has me cautiously optimistic. It looks good, right? I mean, I think it looks really good, I am itching to dive in.

I love that they're trying to simulate a living world. It all sounds rather ambitious for an unknown studio, but if PB could do it 20+ years ago, then maybe someone else can too.

I for one like they are adding new content and not just recycling the same content.

I've played the original a dozen times and don't want to play the same game again.

I'm trying to keep my expectations in check because it's just a trailer, but I agree it looks very good based on that. They seem to be sincere about capturing the same spirit of the original.

Works for me, once I sign. But it's the same video that had already been posted in the news thread.
There was no news when I posted which is why I did it :)

Same here. I love the game but finding new content and surprises will spice the experience up and make if feel it is not just the same old game again with a new coat of paint.

It looks like they are retaining quite of the eurojank in any case. Fans will love it :p
I for one quite like what we've seen for now.

I meant that one. It wasn't a critic, just a hint for people who couldn't see the video that they shouldn't worry if they already watched the other one or the full THQ Nordic presentation.

Yeah, that thread I'm pointing at already had a lot of comments since the videos were posted. :D
