Gamasutra is hosting another movie from the GDC vault this time with Shroud of the Avatar developer Starr Long who talks about crowdfunding being a tricky business.
More information. It's often now hailed as a way to free developers from the shackles of publishers, a way to make very specific products for very specific audiences; but what seems to be missing is ongoing dialogue about building this into a self-sustaining ecosystem of development where the crowd is sharing, not just funding and sourcing.
Crowdsharing is a combination of crowdfunding and crowdsourcing in a sustainable loop. Using his recent experience on Shroud of the Avatar, Long -- a 20-year veteran of game development -- spoke about the various ways you can make this loop work for your next project at GDC Next 2014.
It's a good talk and we've gone ahead and embedded the video of "Crowdsharing: Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing" above, but you can also watch it here for free on the GDC Vault.
