It was released in chapters, one of the first games to do so. As a result it got the "we won't sell it" treatment from Gamestop. Eventually they did have it on disc when all the chapters were released.

I remember something about Dhruin talking about the creative marketing indie developers needed to get something published.

4$ no brainer..saw abit of gameplay vids..very choppy animations...but it may be fun..no one tried it before me?

EDIT:
5 hours in, have a blast!! this is a blend between eschalon and divine divinity (the old first one), I had hard time figuring out the combat, and i'm playing the harder class to start the game with(scout), in any case, a fresh new game that has a soul, finally!
