by Hiddenx, 07:55

Farflame spotted the August update for Assassin’s Creed:

This Month in Assassin’s Creed – August 2019 Update

This month we're excited to announce the release of Title Update 1.5.0, Story Creator Mode news, an all-new Lost Tale of Greece, the Ikaros character pack, and content updates for Assassin's Creed® Rebellion!

Without further ado, let's jump right in!

THE LOST TALES OF GREECE

An all-new Lost Tale of Greece, Old Flames Burn Brighter will be released in August.

Old Flames Burn Brighter

Your heart beats a little faster when you receive a note from someone you knew back on Kephallonia. Someone you thought you'd never see again. And it's more than just a note, it's an invitation! Take a horseback ride down memory lane as you reconnect with an old friend.

Old Flames Burn Brighter will be available on August 6 and is free to all Assassin's Creed® Odyssey players.

To access all the Lost Tales of Greece, you need to reach Chapter 5 in the main path of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

You can review the previously released Lost Tales of Greece in our July Monthly Update.

We haven't reached the end of the Lost Tales just yet. We'll see you in September for the next one. 😉

TITLE UPDATE 1.5.0

Later this month, we'll be deploying Title Update 1.5.0 and, along with addressing some in-game obstacles, the patch will prepare the game for the upcoming release of the Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece.

Stay tuned, we'll share more details about Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece in our September Update!
Story Creator Mode

It's been a whole two months since we released Story Creator Mode, the new feature for playing Stories lovingly crafted by your fellow community members, or for creating your own! Since the launch, we've introduced several updates including Elite NPCs, new NPC behaviors, objective grouping, generic NPC creation, and many more quality-of-life improvements.

And we didn't stop there! In August we will add even more features to the Story Creator Mode, including:

  • Inventory Starter/Objective: This will allow you to start a new quest using quest items as a condition. Same goes for the objective.
  • Patrol Behaviour: You asked, we listened. Patrol behaviour is coming!
  • Story Creator Mode Website Update: We're excited to announce that we'll be updating the website to allow you to:
            Save Stories for later
            Create and share playlists
            Queue stories

Psst, we're also looking into adding dialogues between more than two characters. If our internal testing phase is successful, we'll aim to deploy this feature before the end of the month.

We are incredibly grateful for your continued feedback and support, keep it coming!

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Last DLC Reviews

by Silver, 10:29

Some reviews for the last DLC released for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

Destructoid

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Fate of Atlantis has been one of the more consistent DLC storylines in the history of the series. All of the folks who have been holding off for a full Game of the Year edition have a lot to look forward to, and those of you who have been waiting to see if the entire saga was worth it can safely pull the trigger.

Noobfeed

The Fate of Atlantis is a great improvement from Legacy of the First Blade. Providing a varied selection of areas to explore, items to earn, and enemies to defeat. With each episode adding 2-hours worth of story content alone and about 1-hour of optional missions. You'll leave The Fate of Atlantis with more powerful items and a better understanding of Alexios' heritage but Layla won't have the same treatment. With her adventure feeling painfully underwhelming after building up for something big.

GameReactor

It's a good thing, then, that most of the expansion takes place inside the Animus and its reality-bending world. As Atlantis is a city made and inhabited by Isu you'll come across some new enemy types that are more than happy to use magic or supernatural abilities against you, which definitely increases the challenge, especially for those of you who jump straight into The Fate of Atlantis without playing the other expansions. Fortunately, you'll also get a few new weapons, armour pieces, and abilities to play around with. We aren't the only ones who've enjoyed dodging and parrying at the right time to enter slow-motion, so some of the new time-bending abilities and special effects from the armour sets are sure to make your dream of becoming a superhero come true. Just don't get too confident, as some of the bosses and elites will have no problem showing you why the Isu have survived all these years.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Bloodline Reviews

by Silver, 06:32

Some reviews for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey DLC 'Bloodline'.

ExpansiveDLC 7/10

Bloodline continues immediately after the events of Shadow Heritage, more or less. It takes into account that you’ve probably been out doing Misthios things since Episode 2, like sailing your ship through uncharted waters and fighting an arena’s worth of armed guards, then plonks you right back into the story with Darius, Natakas and Eagle Bearer Junior.

Something’s different, though. Darius seems a bit hardened towards you, bemoaning your treatment of ‘The Simple Life’ and the way you’ve gone back to living life in the name of Drachmae. He tries to emphasize the importance of family, a thread which has played a significant role – for better and worse – throughout this DLC.

Destructoid 7/10

Yet, I was able to at least relate somewhat with the more emotional angle of Bloodline, centered around a very personal betrayal that beats the blanket focus on shadowy organizations and in recent years, Gods.  There's a lot of exposition here: big-time talks with big-time players, and most of it is worth listening to. Bloodline just sticks the landing enough because it follows through with an actual conclusion and a short epilogue.

IGN 8/10

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Legacy of the First Blade: Bloodline delivers a heartfelt storm of emotional payoff, and a great punctuation mark on the three-part story. Though the gameplay continues the formula laid out in previous episodes, the new combat skill is a fun and useful addition. But the answers Bloodline delivers are a satisfying send off for the many characters introduced, and the Order of the Ancient itself, all while clarifying Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s place in the overall lore more clearly than ever before.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - DLC Changes

by Silver, 01:29

@Polygon The latest DLC for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will be changed to better reflect players romance choices.

A Ubisoft community manager said that Ubisoft Quebec is making changes to a cutscene and dialogue in Shadow Heritage “to better reflect the nature of the relationship for players selecting a non-romantic storyline.” The changes and a renamed trophy/achievement some found insensitive and inconsistent with their character will be implemented in a future patch.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Legacy of the First Blade DLC Review

by Silver, 20:11

The Legacy of the First Blade DLC for Assasin's Creed: Odyssey was reviewed by Polygon.

The story introduces some characters from Persia, who have their own Kassandra-like histories of loss and vengeance. Kassandra bonds with these men, which allows us to contemplate the nature of an assassin’s life.

My activities are the same as any other part of the game. It’s a bit like exploring a new island. I travel across Macedonia. I grind through missions in which animals and people are killed, or stuff is fetched, or ships are sunk. I level up and add skills that will come in useful when I go back and mop up some main game missions that I’ve left unattended.

If, like me, you’ve become enamored of this brassy game, “Legacy of the First Blade” is a pleasing slice of extra stuff. For a short time, it threatens to say something vital about games, heroism and violence. I take this as a good sign for the future of this form of entertainment, and as a frustrating demonstration of its present limitations.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Legacy of the First Blade DLC details

by Silver, 11:48

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey has a upcoming DLC called Legacy of the First Blade.

God is a Geek

loading...

Ubisoft has today revealed further details of the Legacy of the First Blade DLC for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The DLC will be split into three episodes, and the first, Hunted, will be available across all platforms on December 4, 2018. The three episodes will see players encounter the legendary Darius, who was the first to wield the Assassin’s Hidden Blade. Following Hunted, two further episodes, called Shadow Heritage and Bloodline, will round off the story, and they will be releasing sometime in early 2019.

Gamingbolt

...

In total, there will be 72 Master Levels. Each Mastery Level can be upgraded 20 times, and each upgrade costs 1 Ability Point. So there’s a whole lot of room left for character progression. The best part is that Mastery Levels can be reset independently of Abilities whenever you want “for a handful of drachmae”.

Beyond the free updates Ubisoft has been making to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, there’s plenty more to look forward to by way of paid expansions as well. The first episode of the game’s first DLC, Legacy of the Hidden Blade, launches on December 4. Read more on that through here.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Review @IndianNoob

by Silver, 22:40

Indian Noob reviewed Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

loading...

The combat too takes the more traditional route of attacking, dodging and parrying. Easy to pick up and learn but there is not a lot of depth here. However one should mention that different weapons do play differently with spears offering range, the knives offering a high rate of attack, maces offering high damage, and swords offer the opportunity to get your ass handed to you like a little bitch every time. I am kidding, swords are alright (Seriously though swords can go to hell). Range combat is similarly simple and but lacks impact and importance in my opinion especially at lower levels. It’s after some serious grinding and investing in Ranged skills that archery becomes a viable combat/assassination option in the game.

...

VERDICT

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a lot of first for the franchise. And for someone picking the game after a while, those changes felt easy to integrate and refreshing to experience. It’s a good solid RPG, with a strong narrative, robust game mechanics, and a vast fun to explore world. There is no reason for you not to pick up this game unless you want to vote with your pocket and bring back the classic Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - More Reviews

by Hiddenx, 19:21

Two more reviews of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey:

Gaminglyf - Score 4/5:

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a stunning game - a gigantic beautiful recreation of Greece, with wonderful ship combat, smooth traversal and plenty of satisfying gameplay moments. Unfortunately numerous design decisions lead to a mix of frustrating gameplay with numerous glimpses of greatness. It's not perfect, but it undoubtedly offers plenty of the series' best.

Mancunion - Score 8.5/10:

However, as I said, these are mainly minor qualms and they don’t even come close to sabotaging this game in the way that previous titles have. I have to admit, for a person who held this series as, arguably, his favourite of all time, during its heyday, I’ve been waiting a long time for Assassin’s Creed to get back on track. But Odyssey does more than that: in following on from Origins and the reinvention of the game’s central mechanics, by adding several layers of depth to the varying types of gameplay, and choosing one the most interesting and abundant periods in history to construct is parkour-filled playground, this game has rekindled my love for this amazing series and given me hope that it will continue in its return to former, one could say, Athenian glory.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - More Reviews

by Silver, 02:06

Some more reviews for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

http://www.pcgamesn.com/assassins-cr…ssey-pc-review

Assassin’s Creed’s lurch towards the RPG properly started with Origins, but Odyssey crystallises the effort – much like how the limestone that dominated Ancient Egyptian architecture, over time, becomes the marble favoured by Ancient Greek architects. Unlike the cosmetic-only skin you donned in Origins, various aspects of your armour in Odyssey can be upgraded and changed, giving you the freedom to choose a helmet, chest armour, bracers, and greaves.

http://www.keengamer.com/article/203…odyssey-review

Complete freedom in a changing and reactive open world is how I would describe the gameplay segment of Odyssey. You'll still follow the main and side mission with a combination of on foot, horseback and ship exploration. Liberating outposts, bases and fighting a bunch of fodder enemies as well as strong semi and full-blown bosses. It's all stuff seen in previous franchise entries but the way it all blends here is amazing. There are also many important additions both big and small that make Odyssey another step in the right direction after Origins already took one.

http://www.pcinvasion.com/assassins-…sey-pc-review/

Mechanics-wise, there are a few caveats. Conquest Mode doesn’t feel fully fleshed out and you’re just doing it for the loot. For instance, I heroically conquered Megaris by helping Sparta. An hour later while chasing down a cultist, Spartan soldiers in an encampment were suddenly hostile. That’s no way to treat a heroine! Then again, it can be explained in the background that these proto-Templars have wiggled their way further into the armies. It’s either that or your questionable loyalties as a misthios or mercenary/hired servant. Still, some minor tweaks to the feature would be welcome.

https://www.digitaltrends.com/game-r…dyssey-review/

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey features a rich, lush world lessened by its repetitive activities. Though the main story is compelling, completing it requires you to participate in a massive amount of level grinding through less-than-stellar side quests. There’s plenty to do in this world, but a lot of it feels like busy work that fights to stay exciting or compelling. Odyssey is yet another open world game that misinterprets the meaning of more content.

http://www.gamesradar.com/assassins-…dyssey-review/

In the end this journey is all about choice. The people you decide to let live, the romances you have, the sexuality lines you blur, the questlines you follow, the people you help and hinder and the RPG picks you make. It's an utterly beautifully crafted world and story, with cutscenes for literally days. After 70 hours I've only just finished the main storyline and I still have plenty to see in Odyssey's Greece, and it's a joy to keep on exploring. No-one's made an open-world RPG with this much depth and brilliance since The Witcher 3. This really is the ultimate Creed.

Thanks Farflame!

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - First Reviews

by Hiddenx, 17:37

Henriquejr spotted some reviews for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey:

IGN - 9.2/10

PC Gamer - 90/100

Gamespot - 8/10

Eurogamer:

...
Throughout all of this, and because of all this, I was wary Odyssey would begin to feel bloated, but despite its length that's not a word I'd use. It's vast, there's no getting around that, but optional goat-hunting bounties aside the majority of your time with Odyssey is well respected. You're always a few hundred XP off a new level and new skill, or a mission away from completing an island's questline, or one Cultist kill behind upgrading your spear. Tonight I may finally track down a First Civilisation monster, or unlock another map region just to see what lies over the horizon. Odyssey is an enormous game - certainly one of the biggest, if not the biggest game Ubisoft has ever made. It's an astonishing creation, extraordinarily generous and solidly crafted, and like its namesake is something that will live long in the telling.

Rock Paper Shotgun:

...
But, if you’ve built a sufficiently nice world for me to run around in, I like just running around in it. There’s a lot of busy work, an eagle, and stabbing people brutally through the throat. Sometimes when you jump off a high thing you land in a load of hay. So, so far, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a very good Assassin’s Creed game. Which is what we were all expecting, wasn’t it? Except this one lets me ignore all that and roleplay as a big buff Greek neighbourhood hero. I’m alright with that.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Medusa Fight

by Silver, 11:26

@GameRant A new video showing off a fight with Medusa from Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

The existence of Medusa was an obvious addition for Odyssey, as the Gorgon warrior has deep roots in Greek mythology. While there are many other Greek-based myths that have the potential to show up in the game, she’s the one most gamers would think of first. Ubisoft’s rendition of the character certainly does her justice, with Kassandra forced to dodge a devastating leering gaze attack that turns her stone, fight against multiple stone warriors, and utilize both melee and ranged attacks to take down the mighty Gorgon.

Gamers can take a look at the Medusa fight from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey below:

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Behind the Odyssey

by Silver, 09:42

Gamingbolt reports on a new video series for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey called Behind the Odyssey. The first video explores RPG mechanics, multiple endings and romance.

To discuss this, a new video series “Behind the Odyssey” has been released. Starting off with the RPG mechanics, the development team also talks about the game’s romances and the potential for multiple endings. The developer doesn’t want to outright lock you out of content with choices made. The desire instead is to offer more choice in character customization, combat and how you approach the different scenarios.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Interview

by Silver, 01:00

Gamingbolt interviewed the developers of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

The setting of ancient Egypt in Origins was an absolutely stellar one, which explains why Discovery Mode was as well received as it was. Can we expect Discover Mode, or perhaps something similar, to make a return in Odyssey?

So we’re not talking yet about anything to do with discovery mode. The game that we have developed has points of interest that you can discover, with tidbits from history of that location. So that is something that baked into the game itself.

How much of a focus will there be on the modern-day Abstergo storyline in Odyssey? Post-AC3, the modern-day storyline has become significantly less important. Can we expect the series to resume telling that story in a more focused manner once again? Does Ubisoft have a clear plan laid out for where that story is headed?

It will be present but I don’t really want to going into details of how much or how. But there is a strong connection to the present day, to the overall arc of Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Previews

by Silver, 15:40

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey has been well previewed.

Worthplaying

Returning from previous games in the series are naval battles. Considering the overall lower level of tech, there are some minor differences, but by and large, you'll see a lot of familiar material if you've played the previous Assassin's Creed titles with sailing. The core controls and mechanics are very similar, from attacking to boarding. Since you don't have cannons, you'll use arrows and javelins instead, in addition to good old-fashioned ramming. Upgrades to the ship, such as a brazier, allow you to perform special attacks, such as flaming arrows. Fans will likely be glad for the chance to engage in some piracy again — until Skull & Bones takes over!

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is shaping up to be a safer sequel to last year's ambitious Origins, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The best Assassin's Creed games tend to be those that focus on polish over reinventing the wheel, and Odyssey feels like one of those. With a bit of luck, it could be one of the best Assassin's Creed titles to date. We'll have to see when it releases this October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Gamingbolt have some interesting snippets of information here.

“It will be present but I don’t really want to going into details of how much or how,” Phillips said. “But there is a strong connection to the present day, to the overall arc of Assassin’s Creed.” That definitely sounds interesting. I, for one, personally hope the game tries to bring the present day storyline back on track, because for the past few instalments, it’s like it has existed only because people expect it to. Whether that actually ends up happening is something we will learn for ourselves when Assassin’s Creed Odyssey launches on October 5 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

And here.

“We built our own based around the same lines as Origins. We’ve got 50 levels of progression. As you kill enemies, as you get certain types of – if you do a certain type of assassination you get more experience. As you discover locations, or complete locations, or complete quests you’re going to get more experience points. As you get more experience points you get more levels, and those levels give you access to more abilities. And those abilities change the way you play the game. So it’s constantly progressing.”

Dualshockers looked to Twitter and Reddit.

More info was provided on Reddit, albeit with less visual flair.

  • The player can pet and tame many different animals, but there are no cats.
  • The modern-day story is not optional, and narrative choices made by the players might result in more present-day content for those who want it.
  • There will be “many” different opportunities for romancing characters, and it’s possible to opt out of them at any time.
  • Clothes stay on during romance scenes.
  • The game will have more content than Assassin’s Creed Origins.
  • The overall map is bigger than Assassin’s Creed Origins’, but half of it is sea.
  • In most cases, gear is not randomly placed and follows objectives that the players can set for themselves. Completing a full gear set grants a set bonus.
  • You can unlock the abilities that suit your playstyle, from epic and over the top to down-to-earth assassin.
  • There won’t be unlockable parachutes.
  • You can’t customize the look of your characters, but you can mix and match equipment to achieve a different look. There won’t be dyes, but the hoot will automatically match the color of the chest piece.
  • The player can ride a horse named Phobos.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Interview @Venturebeat

by Silver, 01:24

Venturebeat explored Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and asked some questions.

Odyssey will give you plenty of choices about how you will approach your specific adventure. You can play as either Alexios or Kassandra, you can romance a huge number of characters, and you can approach missions however you want.

In the clip below from my play session, you can see some of how this works. In this video, I took a mission from Socrates to go free a radical freedom fighter. I went in and killed all of the guards to let him go free, but when he lashed out wildly at me, I killed him, too. When I went back to talk to Socrates, the conversation reflected those gameplay choices. But had I avoided killing the guards and/or the radical, that discussion would have played out differently … and the results of those actions could have had consequences on other parts of the game.

GamesBeat: This is an RPG, so did you ever consider letting people make their own characters?

Scott Phillips: That’s where the balance of Assassin’s Creed versus an Assassin’s Creed RPG comes in. We wanted to tell a story, but we wanted to give you as much freedom as possible within that story. It’s a narrative. It’s going to be different for every player, but the core of that is going to be the same, because that’s part of what Assassin’s Creed is. That’s the DNA of Assassin’s Creed. But we wanted to take that in our own direction by making you — allowing you to choose a lot of different things, small and large, that have an overall impact on that story.
