Dark Alliance - Free DLC: The Crystal Wraiths

by Silver, 19:06

TechRaptor reports on some free DLC for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance called The Crystal Wraiths.

A Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance free DLC, 'The Crystal Wraiths', has just dropped. It adds a new map called 'The Crystal Wraiths', which includes three acts and new cinematics, lore items, bosses, and a new in-game trophy for those of you who like hunting them down. The Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance free DLC also comes with a pretty hefty patch that changes the balance of the game, fixes some bugs, AI, audio, and more.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance has had a fairly rough go of it since its announcement. Its first trailer was one of the worst initial announcements I've ever seen, and it didn't get much better from there. While our own review gave the game a decent 6.5/10 score, the game itself has received a mixed to negative reception, with most wondering why we didn't get a remake of the original beloved games from the early 2000's.

roadmap revealed and numerous patches having been sent out. Let's talk about the latest one, shall we?

Dark Alliance - Review @ Newgamenetwork

by Hiddenx, 14:09

Newgamenetwork checked out the action RPG Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance:

Dark Alliance Review

A world not worth saving

The Dungeons & Dragons brand feels like it has been around for an eternity. From board games to books, and indeed video games, this RPG series has been quite dominant across all manner of entertainment circles. With tons of lore to dig into, players are able to experience thousands of adventures and characters, while having the flexibility to forge their own path. While the 2000s featured a steady output of games based on this property, things have slowed down somewhat in recent years. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is the newest 3rd person action RPG based on the fantasy table top series, and sadly this sophomore entry from Tuque Games leaves a lot to be desired.

As a lower-priced title, the presentation is about what you'd expect. The texture quality, animations, and voice acting are all average at best, but at least the framerate holds very steady. Audio design and music is also a bit lacking, with many cases where you'll be running around levels in almost silence. The cutscenes are pretty nice, though.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance makes the same mistake as many other games. It tries to take an established brand and shift it into a different genre, with poor results. In trying to create a multiplayer-focused action looter, the game lacks the loot, it lacks satisfying action, and the multiplayer barely works. It joins the ranks of its inspirations – Anthem and Outriders – by being a decidedly average, unsatisfying, unpolished and occasionally broken experience that only serves to tarnish the reputation of its brand name license.

Score 40/100

Dark Alliance - "Icewind Fail" @PC Invasion

by Silver, 09:00

PC Invasion has reviewed Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance and dubbed it "Icewind Fail". The game is mostly negative on Steam.

The aggro in Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is odd in general, though. Enemies often don’t react even if you’re right in front of them, as they’ll just stand around a lot of the time. I’ve slaughtered entire groups of foes without them moving a muscle. Larger enemies pose more of a threat, mostly because the game’s hitboxes are unpredictable and attack animations are janky. There’s a dearth of enemy types, and it won’t take more than a few hours before you’ve seen nearly everything the game has to offer. The entire experience is predicated on fighting the same few enemies in boring locations.

This is one of the clunkiest action games I can recall playing in recent memory. You can block, parry, and dodge, but there’s no canceling your attack animations. Each character has a couple of skills, plus an ultimate, but they vary in effectiveness. Their cooldowns are also too long. I wish Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance had skills like an ARPG, but you’ll mostly just be button mashing. Things are better when playing with others, but the combat was never remotely enjoyable to me. Playing solo is also mostly awful, so I strongly suggest you go with a group.

The third-person action role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will be released 2021:

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is an upcoming third-person action role-playing game developed and published by Tuque Games. It is the third main game in the Dark Alliance series, itself based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system, and is a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II. The game was originally slated for release on PC and consoles in fall 2020, but this was later changed to 2021.

Gameplay

It is set in the tundra region of Icewind Dale, and will feature characters from R. A. Salvatore's novel series The Legend of Drizzt, including the four playable characters: Drizzt Do'Urden, Catti-Brie, Bruenor Battlehammer, and Wulfgar. The game will include both single-player and multiplayer modes. In the single-player mode, the player can choose any of the four characters to control, and swap between them.
