Elven Legacy: Ranger - Review @ Gamepex

by Asbjoern, 21:08

Gamepes writes up a review of the Ranger expansion for Elven Legacy with the score of 50%. Here's a snip:

There are essentially two ways of approaching the difficulty level presented in a strategy game. Either one alters the difficulty, or one alters the strategy used in approaching the difficulty of the game. In Elven Legacy, a player needed not necessarily alter his approach to the game, but rather simply set the difficulty to “easy” at the beginning of each mission. In the game’s first expansion pack Elven Legacy: Ranger the same does not hold true. Changing a mission’s difficulty, prior to its’ onset, does little to improve any stubborn strategy-gamer’s ability to accomplish a given goal if they are unwilling to alter their tactics. For hardcore fans of the original Elven Legacy, the expansion’s level of difficulty may provide a necessary incentive for returning to the series. However, for the more casual fantasy-RPG fan, Elven Legacy: Ranger’s steep learning curve, and certain missions’ insurmountable odds, will only cause headaches.

Elven Legacy: Ranger - Review @ Gamers Daily News

by Aries100, 17:54

A review of Elven Legacy: Ranger has been published by Gamers Daily News 7.5 .
The reviewer mentions that he likes the story, which is in English, as well as the graphics.

Here's a bit about the combat:

There's certainly a lot to think about tactically as you place your units at the beginning of each battle and plan each attack as the enemy wipes out each of your less able units you really need to figure out what units and spells are needed to use against each type of enemy.

Elven Legacy: Ranger - Impressions @ 2404

by Skavenhorde, 01:41

2404.org gives us his impressions of Elven Legacy: Ranger. The reviewer finished the game in around 8 hours and felt that if you enjoyed the orginal game then you will enjoy this one for $10:

The upper bound of enjoyment time here is around eight hours. You might be able to increase it by playing some of the included individual scenarios (which are identical to the ones that accompanied the original game) and trying to beat them again with some different units or spells. The monster-scenario ‘The New King' which can take two solid hours and a couple hundred turns to finish, is worth beating again. Most of the other additions are in the same vein- interesting but not exactly earth-shattering.

Those 8 hours rely on a couple of obvious assumptions- you've got to have the original Elven Legacy and you've gotta enjoy it, because this is the same sort of stuff. I enjoyed it so I enjoyed this too. If you got in on Elven Legacy (or Fantasy Wars) a few months ago and have been waiting for more Ranger is a no-brainer. If you haven't, try the Elven Legacy demo or read my review to figure out if it's for you.

Elven Legacy: Ranger - Review @ Gamer Limit

by Skavenhorde, 15:20

Gamebanshee reports that there is a review for Elven Legacy: Ranger up at Gamer Limit with a score of 8/10. They talk about gameplay, the storyline, lack of cut-scenes and voice acting, presentation, and more. It is overall a positive review:

In conclusion, Elven Legacy: Ranger builds upon the self-titled original by balancing out some of the flaws, and enhancing some of the mechanics.  While the game has its share of set backs, it does begin to grow on the player as s/he becomes more familiar with each of the different classes.  Coupled with an engaging and original story, EL:R actually makes the original title more appealing, and, undoubtedly, makes me excited to play the next expansion.  As a result, if you’re into turn-based strategy games, you ought to give the Elven Legacy series a try; you won’t be disappointed.
