Enotria: The Last Song Review
Veni, Vidi, Vici
When I reviewed last year’s challenging yet rewarding Lies of P, I would have never imagined that just a year later I’d encounter another game that, at least on paper, sounds like a similar take on the Soulslike action RPG genre. However, Jyamma Games’s adrenaline-fueled tour of Italy is far from an imitation, sharing some similarities but carving out a unique identity. Enotria: The Last Song is an engrossing, hard-as-nails, and incredibly gorgeous romp through an enchanting land smiled upon by the gods themselves — even if those gods currently seem more interested in making life a living hell for the poor souls who inhabit it.
In the fantasy land of Enotria, the arts reign supreme. Creative expression of all types is akin to godliness, and those with unparalleled ability in the humanities enjoy near-godlike status. At some point, a group of brilliant artistic minds, known as the Authors, created the Canovaccio, an all-powerful play that essentially consumed the world, transforming it into a facsimile of its former self where humans are cast as mindless puppets doomed to act out an eternal script. Enter the Maskless One, a puppet born of the Tree of Change, free of the Canovaccio’s influence and able to act with autonomy to pursue the Authors and put an end to their devious reign.
[...]
Enotria: The Last Song is a very promising debut from a new development studio, and an impressive benchmark to compare future releases to. In a crowded Soulslike market, Enotria distinguishes itself with its unique setting and impressive production values. Combat is satisfying, despite carrying the baggage of a few too many systems with it, most of which can however be safely placed on the backburner. The real star of the show, however, is the level design, which creates a series of showstopper moments that permeate the game’s full runtime and never let a dull moment arise. With its optional story mode, the game offers something for every type of skill level, becoming an easy recommendation for players of all types looking to get into the genre.
Score: 4/5

Enotria: The Last Song - Update 1.006
PATCH NOTES
Maskless Ones!
We are happy to announce that the 1.006 update for Enotria: The Last Song is now LIVE! Check out the latest changes like combat tweaks, animation adjustments and fixes in the patch notes below:
- NEW Loadout Presets: Presets allow you to save up to 5 premade loadouts for each save slot. You can store them for later use or as a utility to transfer multiple items from one loadout to another. Presets can be accessed through the “Manage Loadout” button in the Loadouts Menu, at any Reality Knot.
- [PC] Presets are saved to a dedicated folder inside each Profile. You can share them or import presets from other players easily by copy-pasting the file.
- A new weapon stat is now shown in menus: Average Damage. It is a unified value between Physical, Ardore, and the highest Elemental damage, to help determine the overall strength of the weapon at a glance. This stat will also help you quickly identify the Loadout Preset with the highest damage when loading a Preset.
- The rarity value of the weapons is now displayed better and written in the inventory.
- The weapon rarity border is now shown on the HUD too, when looting items. Rarity information has also been added in the weapon details on the right to match the borders.
- The Fast Travel menu now shows which Reality Knots have an anvil for upgrading equipment nearby.
- Fixed minor visual issues in the Shop menu.
- Updated and unified Italian definitions for “Longsword” to “Spada Lunga” to better reflect the class.
- Implemented some camera views to improve players' guidance through different areas.
- The respec feature is now moved to Pulcinella instead of Veltha.
- Added displayed inputs on the menu part of the initial tutorial.
- Now, when you switch your active loadout, your HP will scale in percentage.
- A short cutscene of Veltha has been added to give more immersion.
- A slight body light has been added to the main character to improve readability in some dark areas.
- Giangurgolo's phase two fight improved for a better combat experience.
- HLOD has been improved slightly, and we are continuing to improve them.
- The golden path and especially Litumnia guidance have been improved to help exploration.
- The lighting of the whole game has been improved overall.
- Improved the quality of the SFX of some gameplay elements for better feedback.
- Fixed some issues with trophies that sometimes made it impossible to get the platinum.
- Improved the readability of some VFX (such as Pillar, Rifts, Grenade explosion, Reality knot).
- Achievements are now fixed
- [PS5] Improved and optimized Scalability settings: Graphics vs Performance.

Enotria: The Last Song Review
Creating a Souls-like can be a bit of a poisoned chalice for developers, mainly due to the immense success of FromSoftware and their insanely popular and refined RPGs that can act like an albatross around the neck of new kids on the block.
However, in recent years, we have seen new IPs take the Souls model and tweak it slightly to provide something that feels fresh and innovative while still paying homage to what has come before.
Just this year, newcomers like Nine Sols and Black Myth: Wukong have burst onto the scene and offer brutal Souls-like experiences well worth playing, and it seems it is now the turn of Enotria: The Last Song.
An Italian folklore-inspired epic that promises epic visuals, deep systems, and punishing bosses. Everything a sadistic Souls fan like myself could ask for. But the question remains, is this game a new Souls-Like hit, or a vague imitation of its predecessors? We find out in our review of Enotria: The Last Song.
[...]
Enotria: The Last Song is a Souls-like experience that takes a lot of big swings, and while there are a few hiccups along the way, a lot of these risks pay off. The freedom to experiment with builds, plan ahead with pre-set Loadouts, and take on the roles of your fallen enemies are all standout features that set this title apart. Which Enotria backs up with impressive visuals, a compelling Italian folklore-inspired world, and several memorable bosses. Sadly, performance issues, a lack of genuine, consistent challenge, and some systems that flatter to deceive stop this game from being a truly iconic game within the sub-genre, but when the curtain closes, and the actors take their final bow, I feel plenty in the audience will be throwing roses and applauding regardless.

Enotria: The Last Song: Hands-On Early Impressions - A Soulslike With Soul
Good for the soul
To declare that the Soulslike sub-genre is a little overcrowded is akin to saying that Dark Souls is a little bit tricky. In other words, it’s a massive understatement. Despite the myriad of imitators, however, it’s fair to say that there are still meaningful experiences to be extracted from the rich soil sewn by FromSoftware et al. Enter: Jyamma Games’ Enotria: The Last Song, a Soulsborne action-RPG inspired by Italian folklore. Luckily, from the several hours I’ve played thus far, I’m happy to report that this is one Soulslike that should absolutely be on your radar.
Those familiar with the genre will instantly feel right at home in Enotria: The Last Song. Yes, you’ll be tackling challenging enemies and bosses in methodical, fluid combat, while resting at checkpoints peppered throughout the world. Of course, you’ll be accruing a currency - known in-game as Memoria — as you defeat adversaries, which can be spent on leveling up your hero and purchasing upgrades. Indeed, while the core tenets of the now-iconic blueprint are out in full force, what tends to make or break a new entry in the popular sub-genre is how it differentiates itself from the competition.

GameSpot checked out Enotria: The Last Song:
Enotria: The Last Song Is A More Dynamic Souls-likes That Gives You Freedom From Character Builds
With swappable loadouts, Jyamma Games is looking to make the Souls formula a little easier to get into for players who might struggle with character builds and stats.
There are a lot of games out there taking inspiration from and riffing on the formula that From Software popularized with its Souls games, but Enotria: The Last Song is the first one I've encountered that is explicitly angled at opening it up to more people.
I played Enotria at Summer Game Fest's Play Days event, where developer Jyamma Games had a demo that featured a boss rush of three fights from the game, ramping up in difficulty. The first featured a battle with a miniboss, a jester-like guy with a spear; the second was a wispy magic-user; and the third, a giant puppet monster. All three were tough, but I took them all down well within the hour appointment time I had.
I have a lot of Souls-like experience, but part of my success in such a limited window of time was due to the coaching from Jyamma producer Eduoardo Basile on how Enotria's signature systems work. While Enotria felt immediately familiar as a Souls-like--Jyamma says it falls somewhere between Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in terms of a focus on aggressive fighting and parrying--it's also attempting to ease up on some of the harder-to-understand elements of From Software's games. That's, namely, the idea of being committed to a certain type of character or a certain type of build, which can put you at an advantage in some situations and a disadvantage in others.

ENOTRIA: THE LAST SONG IS A SOULSLIKE IN THE SUN
Enotria: The Last Song Demo Impressions
Did you ever feel like your life was a play, and you were just an actor reading the same lines over and over, day in and day out? Yeah, me neither. Actually, I imagine we’ve all had that feeling of stasis, of things not changing. The film Groundhog Day expressed it brilliantly. Now we have Enotria: The Last Song, an upcoming Soulslike in which the inhabitants of an alternative reality Italy are trapped in a play.Take the Stage
It’s called the Canovaccio, which in Italian literally means a type of play in the commedia dell’arte tradition. As an aside, grab your Italian dictionary. There are a lot of Italian phrases in the game. Sometimes this adds flavor to the narrative and mechanics. Now and then, it adds an unnecessary layer to pretty common ideas.Enotria: The Last Song is the second Soulslike to embrace commedia dell’arte elements. Lives of P featured commedia visual motifs and some theatrical references, but Enotria really dives deeper into its theatrical foundation. The Canovaccio has enthralled the land, and everyone is essentially an actor endlessly repeating their scenes and lines. You play as the Maskless One, and your task is to defeat the Authors and free everyone from the play.

Enotria: The Last Song - Interview with Edoardo Basile
Prankster101 talked with Project Manager Edoardo Basile about the action RPG Enotria: The Last Song:
Enotria: The Last Song – interview with Edoardo Basile (Project Manager, Jyamma Games)
One of the games which stood out this year at Gamescom, if only for the fact that it commanded a massive presence at the show – the sort of presence that’s normally reserved for major AAA publishers like Ubisoft, and major AAA titles like Call Of Duty – was a Souls-like game by the name of Enotria: The Last Song. And whilst there was no doubt in my mind that whoever was developing the game had taken the unprecedented step of putting across an incredibly bold face, what surprised me even more however was the fact that Enotria is actually the product of a relatively small indie game studio in Milan (Italy) that harbors very big dreams of wanting to operate on the international stage.
I spoke to Edoardo Basile (Project Manager) about the struggles which his company, Jyamma Games, has experienced in bringing Enotria to the market, and how the studio has fared in a socio-political environment that continuously perceives gaming as being an irreverent pastime. As part of this, and during our conversation, Edoardo Basile was able to impart his studio’s vision of wanting to put Italy on the map, and how, despite having no real support, Jyamma Games wanted to show the world that “underdogs matter”. Enjoy!
Prior to Gamescom this year, I’d never heard of Enotria before. From my perspective, the game literally came out of nowhere. You obviously did a lot to promote it, to the extent that you made it seem like a AAA production, and where the game got the sort of attention that’s normally reserved for AAA heavyweights like Call Of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Halo… But the level of effort you went to in order to promote your game at Gamescom this year was pretty impressive. With that said however, how come nobody’s heard about Enotria before? And regarding Jyamma Games… How come I’d never heard of your company before. What’s your story?
Actually, it’s probably because the company itself is just 4 years old. The first year, we were just 9 people, and the company developed mobile games. And 3 years ago, we suddenly decided to go bananas and do a console game. And we basically moved from 9 people to 50 people in a matter of 6 to 12 months, something like that. But for sure, we’re not a AAA production, and we’re still a indie company. And it makes sense that people don’t know that much about us. But actually our… let’s just say, “public story”, started at Tokyo game Show 2022. We released the first trailer there, and we had a small booth in the Indie Arena. It was our first public event. We basically focused our first year on engaging with the press. We did a lot of work in Italy, and then we decided that it was time to go bigger, and to go to an international stage. And we actually received a lot of love from Asia and we got good recognition. But in the Western market, we didn’t feel as if we’d done enough. People didn’t really know enough about us, even if the product is very good, because our budget is limited. We don’t have the budget of FromSoftware or companies like that. So at one point, we decided that we were now confident in our product, and it’s very playable now. It has an acceptable level of polish that we can show to the public. And we said, “okay, let’s go big in Gamescom and TGS”. So this is why you’ve probably never heard about us. We are underdogs. And people are usually surprised, because underdogs are a surprise. We are a studio of 50 people. We are very proud to have something this unique and special, and this is something that is a very huge achievement for us.
