The second update for Haven is now available for free on PC (Steam, GOG & Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series and Nintendo Switch. You will now be able to choose which couple you want to play as. You can choose to play as the existing Yu and Kay as you know them, as two women (Yu and an alternate version of Kay) or as two men (Kay and an alternate version of Yu). Note that this choice only impacts the characters you play as, but the gameplay and the story stay the same.

Haven - Review @ COG

by Hiddenx, 19:15

COG has reviewed the adventure RPG Haven:

Haven Review – A Comfortable Romantic Adventure

Haven is a romantic RPG that concentrates on the love and growth of our two protagonists: Yu and Kay. Released in time for Valentine’s Day, I was guilty of spending the weekend pretending to be two fictional characters instead of pursuing my own love life, but it’s hard to blame me – Yu and Kay’s interactions and emotions are incredibly relatable. Silly, adventurous, and never compromising their own personality, Haven shows us what it’s like to explore and survive an unknown world through mutual love and understanding, and is a great depiction of a realistic relationship that is refreshing to see.

Haven is a noteworthy story that defines what it is like to find your home with your loved one. Yu and Kay have their ups and downs, but Haven shows that love conquers all hardships. The game is about exploring and finding new places, and of course being free to love whoever you want. Like all relationships the game isn’t perfect, but it successfully presents a warm and powerful narrative that demonstrates an adult relationship with characters that we can all relate to.

Haven - Interview @Gamingbolt

by Silver, 03:04

@Gamingbolt An interview with the creative director for Haven, Emeric Thoa.

Is this a game that will place much of a focus on exploration?

It kinda does. But exploration is a taboo word for me, because I don’t see that as a game mechanic. There is no skill involved, you can’t really explore well or badly, you can’t really improve at exploring. That’s why gliding was super important: even if you are a gold medalist skier, you can enjoy riding a blue track on a sunny day. Exploration in Haven is not about what you find, but about that satisfying feeling of moving forward smoothly.

What can you tell us about the combat mechanics in Haven?

You control both characters at the same time. It’s not turn-based, but not completely real time either. You load orders for each character by holding buttons, and they launch their action when you release. Playing well requires tactic and synchronization, to either chain attacks or combine them. Again, the inputs were designed around creating something with a satisfying rhythm. I like to say it is “sensual”.
