State of Decay 2 - Juggernaut Edition released

by Hiddenx, 18:14

The Juggernaut Edition of State of Decay 2 has been released. If you own the old version you get this update for free:

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition

State of Decay 2 is an open-world survival-fantasy game for you and up to 3 co-op friends. After a zombie apocalypse, your small group of survivors seek to rebuild a small corner of civilization, and you get to make all the decisions about how that happens.

You decide who to recruit to your team, where to settle your community, how to fortify and upgrade your base, and when it’s time to move to greener pastures. You select which survivor to bring along on a scavenging run for the food and ammo you need, and who you’ll use to fight off the zombies attacking your base. You choose how you’ll deal with other people who move into your town. Will you be friendly and welcoming... or will you aggressively defend your territory?

Every player’s experience in the game is unique. Each character in your community has their own special set of skills and traits, so no two communities are ever the same. The challenges you face also vary from game to game, based on who you recruit and the decisions you make along the way.

Undead Labs is proud to present our best-ever vision of the zombie apocalypse. Keep your eyes peeled and your weapons ready. This is one apocalypse you won't want to miss.

State of Decay 2 - Review

by Hiddenx, 21:28

Fortress of Solitude checked out State of Decay 2:

State Of Decay 2 Review – Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse One Bug At A Time

I never knew games like State of Decay 2 existed. I suspected and quietly hoped for it, mainly because the idea of pulling civilisation back from the brink after a zombie apocalypse is what I want to do one day when I’m an adult.

My idea of the perfect game would be one where small groups of survivors (tough, scrappy types who know how to reuse and recycle), fight and negotiate with other survivors to create a settlement and strengthen its defences. Along the way they can also clear out the zombie threat and expand borders to create partnerships and agreements with neighbouring settlements and trade resources. To me, that perfect game would be Fallout meets Far Cry 5 meets The Sims set in the world of The Walking Dead.

[...]

State of Decay 2 is a great idea, kind of an interactive season of The Walking Dead, but it’s far from being the polished experience that a game like Far Cry 5 is, but then Far Cry 2 wasn’t exactly problem free either. I want to believe that this is a necessary step in the evolution of the franchise and that when we get to State of Decay 5 we will have a game that does justice to the subject matter.

State of Decay 2 - Beginner's Guide

by Hiddenx, 07:36

Windows Central has some tips for the upcoming survival game State of Decay 2:

State of Decay 2 beginner's guide: Exploration, base building, and survival

State of Decay 2 is a zombie apocalypse survival simulation like no other, and we've got some tips to get you up and running (literally).

loading...

State of Decay 2 is by no means a perfect game, but for fans of the franchise, and fans of zombie media in general, it's an unmissable experience that will keep you hooked for hours and hours. It's also deceptively complex.

State of Decay 2 features base-building mechanics, a subtle, but rich role-playing game (RPG) layer, and various intersecting sim features that can either make or break your nascent survivor community. Here are some basic tips to help you get started, without spoiling the joy of discovery.

In State of Decay 2, you manage a whole community of survivors, and each member has their own unique traits and stats. The way these systems intersect impacts the efficiency of your community, and while the game doesn't telegraph them too strongly, there are menu systems where you can view how a character's behavior might be impacting your community.

Despite playing for dozens of hours, I'm still discovering new bonus character traits and skills, but there are a few basics that come with every character:

  • Cardio governs your stamina levels and endurance.
  • Wits can improve your scavenging and stealth skills.
  • Fighting affects your capabilities in melee range combat.
  • Shooting improves your skills with guns.

State of Decay 2 - Walking Dead Sim

by Silver, 11:55

PCGamesN is calling State of Decay 2 the ultimate The Walking Dead sim.

loading...

There are some strategies that simply aren’t possible when playing State of Decay 2 with an AI follower. They can't hop in a police car, turn the sirens on, and lure a pack of zombies out of a building by doing a series of doughnuts in the front garden. That's why I got a real human - a friend in the flesh - to do it for me. As they screech around outside, I am free to sneak in and snap up all the loot I can carry before making off without firing a single shot. In the punishing, permadeath open world of this zombie survival game, that’s an ideal outcome.

State of Decay 2 - Hands On Preview @ IGN

by Hiddenx, 22:31

IGN checked out State of Decay 2 - the game will be released on May 22:

State of Decay 2 First Hands-On: Bigger, Better, and More RPG-y

The zombie-apocalypse-survival RPG doubles down on what it does best.

By Ryan McCaffrey My car was abandoned in the middle of the road somewhere behind me. I couldn’t go back for it even though I desperately wished I could. I had to bail out of it – while it was moving, mind you – because it was the dead of night and I didn’t see the Bloater standing in my path until he exploded on the front bumper, filling the cabin with noxious gas. I was left to limp up and around a mountain, as a straight-line path back to my community’s base just wasn’t possible. My health was critical. My stamina was exhausted because I hadn’t slept in two days and simply couldn’t run more than a few paces anymore. I figured my odds of surviving – and thus not losing valuable geocacher/masseuse Fulgencio Arellano permanently – were barely north of zero. Between my body, my mind, and my situation, I really was in a state of decay.

Permadeath, resource management, relationship building, vehicle procurement, maximizing your community’s skills, building outposts, trying to figure out which survivors are friends or foes – all of it and more are what made State of Decay special. And State of Decay 2 deepens all of these systems and more, with the result being a game the Undead Labs team had to peel me away from after I spent two days with it. It’s fair to wonder how it’s going to run on a stock Xbox One – I only played it on a high-end PC, to which an Xbox One X should compare nicely – but from what I’ve seen so far, State of Decay 2 may be a steal at $30. And playing it reminded me that, annoyingly, there haven’t been any State of Decay copycats in the five years since the first game. Thankfully, the real thing returns soon enough.

State of Decay 2 - Larger World, Coop, Griefing

by Hiddenx, 09:15

Gamespot interviewed Undead Labs CEO Jeff Strain about the survival game State of Decay 2:

State Of Decay 2 Dev Talks Larger World, Co-Op, Griefing, And More

Undead Labs CEO Jeff Strain shares more details on the Xbox One and PC zombie game.

A sequel to the hit zombie game State of Decay was announced last summer for Xbox One and PC. Since then, developer Undead Labs has shared a lot of concept art, but has not said much about what fans can expect from it. Now, CEO Jeff Strain has opened up on the sequel's ambitions and more.

Speaking to GameSpot at PAX East 2017 in Boston this week, Strain talked about what the team learned from the first game and discussed how the sequel will still focus on entropy, the idea that you're up against a monumental task of staying alive in a harsh world.

With the sequel adding four-player co-op, we wondered if there would be any form of competitive multiplayer. Strain confirmed there won't be, though of course players can freely grief each other.

Also in the interview, Strain revealed that the development team is four times as big as the first game and that State of Decay 2's map is larger as well. He also discussed why Undead Labs decided to abandon the State of Decay MMO, Class4, and said you can expect the studio to continue to make zombie games in the future, though he hasn't ruled out projects in other genres as well.
