Age of Conan - Report @ Gamespy

by Woges, 2008-05-28 11:54:30

Four of the editors at Gamespy report on their experiences of AoC thus far.

Miguel (Stygian Tempest of Set): Maybe we can simply say "them's the breaks" when considering all the technical problems, but that would be unfair to all the MMOs that have launched smoothly throughout the last few years. But let's not lose perspective: during even its worst moments, Age of Conan is in remarkable shape when compared to some of the sloppier launches in recent history (let's not go back to Funcom's first MMO...).

The things that bug me about the game aren't technical in nature (and granted this may be simply because I haven't played enough to really find anything truly frustrating). What's disappointed me so far is the haphazard way that quests are distributed throughout the environments I've thus far encountered. Maybe I'm just spoiled by WoW, but at this point, it feels like an enormous pain in the ass to trawl an entire zone, pinging every NPC marked on my map for every task they're worth. Heh. It just occurred to me how remarkably lazy that sounds, but that's how I feel.

To give Age of Conan the benefit of the doubt, it doesn't seem like you have to complete every single quest in a zone order to advance through its level range -- at least not yet. If that's the case, then cool; my complaints will simply amount to an overabundance of options.
