Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Preview Roundup

by Couchpotato, 2013-09-01 00:39:05

I have managed to roundup a few previews for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. So lets start round one with many more to come.

Gamefront

Diablo 3 wasn’t the success Blizzard — or its fans — hoped for. But Diablo 2 didn’t hit its stride until its expansion, Lord of Destruction. Could the same be true for Diablo 3? The first of two planned expansions, Reaper of Souls, was revealed at Gamescom last week. While many former fans of the series have written the third installment off long ago, those who stuck with it over the past year know that Blizzard has been actively working to improve the game. The Diablo 3 of today is a better game than on release day, but if it is to have the longevity of Diablo 2, a lot more work needs to be done.

New Game Director Josh Mosqueira, taking over the role from Jay Wilson, seems to have a keen eye for what’s wrong with Diablo 3. The game has a few critical issues that still plague it; here’s how Reaper of Souls may resolve them.

Regardless of how you look at the paragon system, the multiple classes, the questing or item leveling or what your personal feelings are on the quality of Blizzards content we can at least all sit down and agree that Diablo III was a short game. It certainly had a lot of great points that shouldn’t be dismissed; visually the game was a treat and the gameplay was smooth as anyone could ask for. No one had a problem with the taste Diablo III had to offer, there just wasn’t a quite enough of it on the plate.

So now we’ve got a new expansion around the corner, filled with all kinds of new goodies for us to look forward to. As of now we know the expansion, Reaper of Souls, adds a few new things to the game: A new melee class based loosely on Diablo II’s Paladin called The Crusader, an increased level cap to 70, new monsters, item transmog, and new randomized dungeons have all been announced so far.

One thing is for sure, Blizzard knows how to rock an opening cinematic.  Blizzard’s new Diablo III expansion “Reaper of Souls” offers enhanced gameplay, better loot, a new class, and updates that will please Diablo fans.  As Alex Maberry, the senior producer on Diablo III, says, Diablo is about heroes that are larger than life, starts from meager beginnings, and characters who achieve godlike status.  RoS offers a new villain: Malthael, death himself, a fallen angel of wisdom whose goal is to end eternal conflict by wiping out the blight that is humanity.  He intends to wipe out the city of West March and then Sanctuary.  Your mission?  Stop his plans.
