Elder Scrolls Online - Interview @ The Geek Link

by Couchpotato, 2013-10-07 00:27:06

The Geek Link has a new interview with Zenimax Online Studios about The Elder Scrolls Online.

TGL: What influenced you to release the Elder Scrolls Online on PC and consoles?

BW: Just the fact that we want everybody out there to experience the Elder Scrolls Online, not just one portion of the community. Because people have been playing Elder Scrolls games for a long time on consoles too, and we didn’t want to deny them the opportunity to play online with their buddies. Because consoles are sort of where you first see it. You log-in and you are playing Skyrim and you see your buddy log-in, and you are like “I can’t play with them”. We want to make sure that you can in Elder Scrolls Online.

TGL: With that said, will players be able to play cross-platform?

BW: It is not going to be cross-platform. PC and Mac will be able to play together, Xbox will play together, and PlayStation will play together, but it isn’t going to cross over.

TGL: How do you think veteran fans of the series will feel about being in an MMO?

BW: I think they are going to be happy about it. It is the same world they have grown to love in Skyrim, in Morrowind, in Oblivion, all the way back to Arena and Daggerfall. It’s the same lore, the same world they have grown up in. [These are] places they will be familiar with, like Windhelm, Riften, Cheydinhal, and Chorrol. These are all towns that people have been in and seen, and they will be able to see it again, this time with their friends.

TGL: Why did you choose to do an MMO that predates Skyrim?

BW: When you look at the time line of everything, it fits perfectly. The timeline is in a state of civil war. If you look at this timeline, it says there is no emperor. Cyrodiil is in a civil war. All three sides are trying to fight each other. That’s the big call out of what the timeline says, because if it’s PvP or the concept of the three sides trying to claim an emperor, it fits great in terms of the story line, across all of Elder Scrolls lore.
