Jupiter Hell - Funded, the Inner Circle & Sound Update

by Silver, 2016-12-12 21:54:37

Jupiter Hell has funded and is looking into stretch goals for the last 26 hours. The latest update focuses on the vision for sound with a sample at the link provided and explains what being a member of the Inner Circle entitles you to.

Secrets of the Inner Circle

The Supporter of Chaos pledge tier includes access to the Inner Circle, and we'd like to spell out a little more what that involves.

Firstly, the Inner Circle will have access to pre-alpha builds from very soon after the Kickstarter ends. Our immediate priority from Wednesday will be to make the Arena Mode we briefed on before, and put it in the hands of our Inner Circle members to test and provide feedback. Have a tight, dedicated group on hand to assist in refining the details of the combat model will be hugely important to getting the core gameplay absolutely perfect.

Ongoing, the Inner Circle will have continuous advance access to new builds of the game, sometimes on a nightly basis. Hot from the press releases, long before anyone else gets their eyes on them! In addition we have a private forum for the Inner Circle, in which we developers will regularly chat about game design ideas. This will be no holds barred discussion, with good and bad ideas shared openly and continuous input sought from Inner Circle members. Participants will get a unique view of the game design and development process, and a very unique input into how the game is made. We believe that once the game is released Inner Circle members will be able to look on elements and clearly say "I helped make this", or "that important piece is because of me".

This process will continue after release, as we consider new content and new designs and the game's development continues. The Inner Circle will remain as a guiding council for Jupiter Hell into the years ahead.

And right now is the only chance to get in on this. Inner Circle access will be closed after the Kickstarter ends.

Sound and Music in Jupiter Hell

As part of our regular series of insights into the game development process here's a look at music in Jupiter Hell, with details from our audio wizard, Roland La Goy:

With Jupiter Hell's music we'd agreed early on that it would end as a dark, Heavy Metal soundtrack. Extreme Metal mixed with Dark Ambient and Electronic influence scattered here and there.

The mock-up audio attached to this update (5 fairly different types of Metal playing styles) aren't finalized in any way. As we work on the soundtrack we'll be developing catchy tracks to fit the game's setting spot-on. Also, the teaser videos and the Kickstarter trailer music are good references for the styles we're aiming for. Check those out if interested.

We're toying with the idea of composing a completely different soundtrack on the side. Fully Dark Ambient, Electronic, or whatever music people would want to hear in contrast to Heavy Metal. This separate soundtrack would likely be an audio option you can switch over to whenever you feel.

Audio geeks may be interested in my setup... For music/sound recording, mixing, and mastering, I work in PreSonus' Studio One 3 and mostly Waves plugins for lots of the audio effects. I also use Steinberg Wavelab here and there. I've gone with a hardware Focusrite USB audio interface, M-Audio monitor speakers (as well as a set of Sony lower-end ones, for referencing audio), Audio-Technica ATH headphones, mainly Shure microphones, Marshall amplifiers, Alesis and M-Audio MIDI controllers, and a couple of Halo brand guitars (7-string guitar, and 5-string bass guitar).

All in all, the game's music and sound are still not set in stone, but we've made a promising start and have a clear direction. I look forward to taking suggestions through the entire development of Jupiter Hell and seeing where this leads!
