Lord of the Rings Online - Preview @ Games Radar

by Dhruin, 2007-02-24 22:14:55

Games Radar has a preview that focuses on the things Lord of the Rings Online is doing to foster a community and ease of use:

MMO enthusiasts will appreciate the way LOTR Online plans to iron out some serious kinks that plague the genre. Whether its setting up a voice chat server for your guild, posting a comment on a forum about a difficult quest, or creating a website for your character, MMO players have gone through great lengths to develop and participate in the strong online communities that grow around their game of choice – and its refreshing to see how developer, Turbine is taking a proactive approach to cultivating these communities.

All these sorts of features and resources will be brought in-game. Instead of wading through online databases like www.allakhazam.com or www.thottbott.com, players can expect to see a convenient in-game Wiki-like webpage where you can read and post information about quests and items. A version of Google maps will also be implemented into the game, making map mods like Atlas or Cosmos all but obsolete. Forget about scouring the net for the best deals on private Ventrillo or TeamSpeak servers while you’re at it, as plans are also in the works to include a built-in voice chat system.
